The Seasons in Terza Rima Verses

Dean Traylor is a freelance writer and teacher who writes about various subjects, including education and creative writing.

The changing of the seasons has always been inspirational to poets, painters and photographers, alike. Each one has its own distinct look and feel. The Following are poems written in the lyrical poem format of Terza Rima. These poems can stand on their own; however, they are interlinked with the seasons.

Without further ado they are:

Autumn I See

I see the leaves changing

In the glory of the light.

I hear the wind singing.

I see the mountain top so white

in the days growing short.

I hear the birds flocking out of sight.

I see autumn’s in court

In its entire splendor and…

I hear nature’s report.

Old Man Winter

A chill in the air,

and you know old man Winter

is decorating with care.

Soon, the snow will fall in a blur,

dusting trees white,

covering the ground for sure.

Some don’t think it’s right

for Winter to bring the frost and ice

and freeze Autumn’s delight.

But winter doesn’t slice,

slash, and burn; he just sets the stage

for Spring’s return to make things nice.

Lady Spring

Lady Spring gives birth again,

to awaken the hopes

and dreams of men.

Her flowers grace the slope.

Her fruits grace the trees,

ripening the days of hope.

Lady Spring holds the keys

that opens an eye

to look deep, like the seven seas

at a world on the edge of the funeral pyre,

and find a way

to spare it before it may die.

Summer Vacation

That final bell sings

and the children leave

as if strapped with wings.

It seems hard to believe

it's another thrilling end

before a season’s eve.

Summer’s around the bend,

the children cheer

and the teachers’ sanity mend.

Nobody will shed a tear,

for summer is the remedy

for a very long, school year.
