Picture Prompt: A note of thanks to Bill Holland

This hub is in response to the picture prompt challenge, given by Bill Holland.

Bill has provided us with some beautiful pictures, and we have to weave a story, by including all of these photographs.

I have read and enjoyed some of the awesome entries, in response to this challenge. They are all unique and different, and truly establish the creative and wonderful imaginations, of the fellow writers.

Thank you Bill, for this challenge and I hope you like my response, as well.

The Holiday Plan To Darjeeling

" Shimla, Ooty, Mussorie, Nainital, Darjeeling and Shillong"

__The names of all these hill stations were written, on small bits of paper and now was the time to pick up, one of the names, where Raj and Priya would go for a holiday.

Raj and Priya were planning a holiday since long, but were not able to find time, due to their busy schedule. They had been married, since the last two years and their love for each other had grown, deeper and deeper.

To celebrate their third Marriage Anniversary, which was due the next week, they wanted to spend some beautiful moments, amidst the beauty of Nature. But they were not able to decide, where to go, and thus this picking up of chits, to decide their destination.

They called the little girl of their neighbour, to do this job and were excited to know the result.

~~~She said, and the couple looked at each other. It is a bit far from New Delhi, compared to the other hill stations, but all the same, the verdict was out and they decided to go with it, as promised to each other.
As soon as they landed at Bagdogra from Delhi, they took a cab for their destination. To their surprise, there was a strange sense of familiarity, all along the fog filled highway.
Both Raj and Priya were puzzled, as well as excited.
"Have you been here earlier---- that is before marriage?" asked Priya.
"No, never----!"
"But it is so surprising that the place looks so familiar to me." said Raj.
Priya was quiet, but strangely she was feeling the same way.
How was it possible that the highway seemed, as if they had travelled together earlier. Whereas, the truth was that they had an arranged marriage and did not know each other earlier than that, leave aside travelling together.
The fog started clearing, with the beautiful Sunrise in the hills, and the couple got engaged in taking pictures, of the lovely and serene landscape.
They wanted to capture, each and every beautiful moment in their camera.
The Mystery of Those Mountains
Raj and Priya were eager and excited, and wanted to enjoy, each and every moment of their beautiful road trip, along the gorgeous, green valley, on one side and beautiful hills, on the other side.
Slowly, the fog cleared completely, and they were able to see, the majestic mountain ranges all along the drive; so magnificent; so powerful; yet so calm!
But again, the strange sense of belonging, of familiarity, made Raj and Priya uncomfortable.
On their way, towards the guest house, they could see ---
An abandoned railway goods train!
That made them curious. They got down to inspect it, but they were in for a surprise.
An elderly man was passing by, and he started staring at them, with the expression of recognition, on his face. Before they could ask him anything, he started walking fast, and within no time, got vanished somewhere in the nearby farmland, but not before Raj and Priya could notice, the feeling of scare and surprise on his face, as if he had seen some ghosts.
And The Mystery Unfolds—
As they drove alongside the green farms, something strange caught their attention---
A deserted Barn
One could hardly miss it, among the lively and fresh green fields.
And here they spotted the elderly man, whom they had noticed earlier, besides the abandoned goods carriage train.
But he was not alone. Along his side, was an old woman and both the elders, were curiously staring at them only.
Raj and Priya had to step out of their car, to satisfy their curiosity, as well as their own.
The two elderly persons looked at each other in astonishment, as the couple came near them.
Their wrinkled and Suntanned faces, were a clear indication, that they had seen a lot in life.
"So you are back, Rosy and Jimmy!!!", murmured the lady in a quiet voice.
"Back!!"---Raj and Priya reacted, almost together.
"Do you know us?”
“I mean, I have never seen you, or met you, or even been to this place earlier." Raj said almost in one breath, and Priya nodded her head affirmatively, as if asking the same question.
Both the elderly persons, directed the couple, towards a place, in answer to their question, where they were going to have, the surprise of their lives.
A Graveyard
"Rosy and Jimmy were deeply in love with each other. They lived up there, in the cottage," the lady pointed towards a green hill.
Lot of small and beautiful cottages could be seen there.
"The preparations for their wedding were almost complete, but as fate would have it, they met a fatal car accident, near those mountains, just three days before their wedding." she said in a trembling voice, her eyes full of tears.
"And you want to say, that we are Rosy and Jimmy, lying there in that graveyard?!!" asked Priya, trying to control the nervousness, in her voice.
The woman nodded her head, in affirmation.
"But how do we believe that? I mean, I don't believe in the theory of rebirth!!" said Raj in response.
"You will! Once, you see their photos." declared the woman.
She took out an old black and white photo, from a crumpled envelope, from inside an old and worn out bag.
Raj and Priya held their breath. They stood there for several moments, in stunned silence, just staring at the pictures, which the old woman held in her hand.
Yes, it was exactly them, in the picture!
"Even God Helps To Reunite True Lovers," said the old woman, with tears of joy in her eyes.
Thank you M G Singh ji, for reading and appreciating the story. I am glad it reminded you of the wonderful memories, spent at Darjeeling. I had the privilege of visiting this beautiful place, only once, and I loved it.
Looking forward to your story about Darjeeling. You are a great storyteller.
Thanks and take care.
MG Singh emge from Singapore on April 03, 2020:
I liked this article very much. I was posted at the foothills at Bagdogra. I sent two years there and visited Darjeeling at least 40 times. Many a time we used to fly by chopper from Bagdogra to Darjeeling at the helipad there (lebong.) I have wonderful memories of the place and I remember all night parties at the planters club. Maybe I will write an article on it next time
This was an intriguing story. Both beautiful and mysterious. I really enjoyed this one, Chitrangada. I have enjoyed all the stories you and the others have written from the challenge billybuc posted. I wish I were brave enough to join the challenge, but I find myself a little uncertain about my ability to write something interesting such as yours. :) I think I should stick with poetry and prose. I really loved this. Great Job!
Thank you Shauna, for reading and appreciating the story!
I am glad you liked it.
It is so interesting to know about The Big Bang Theory characters. What a coincidence! Raj and Priya are very common names here.
You are right that Bill would have a tough time reading all the wonderful submissions. All of them are so impressive.
Thanks for your kind visit and comments!
Mysterious and supernatural. Didn't see that coming. I was merely thinking along the lines of daja vu. Good story.
Shauna L Bowling from Central Florida on September 01, 2016:
Chitrangada, I love this story! Spirits, reincarnation and the paranormal in general are intriguing topics for me. I find my own writing following that path quite often.
