What Kinds of Jobs Do Snowmen Have?

New York Times bestselling writer and illustrator team Carolyn and Mark Buehner's Snowmen At Work is a delightful and imaginative picture book and story in board book form for toddlers and preschoolers. It is snowing in many parts of the country now and Snowmen At Work is the perfect choice for cuddling by the fire and family story time.

What kinds of jobs do you think snowmen can have and what do they do when we are sleeping? Someone built a snowman. but when they went outside to shovel the sidewalk the next morning, the sidewalk was clear and the snowman was standing by. Who cleared the sidewalk? Do you think there was a snowman crew with the snowplow? How about a snowman dentist in the world when it is winter? A snowman might be able to work in a grocery store. It would be fun to have a snowman working in a pet store. Do you think a snowman could work in a bakery? A lot of children would like a snowman for their teacher? Would you call a snowman to rescue your cat if the cat was stuck in a high tree?

The text is written in rhymes. The beautifully colored illustrations tell the story of all of the jobs that the snowmen have. The snowmen are hard at work and no one ever knows!

Snowmen At Work was published by Dial Books for Young Readers, a division of Penguin/Random House and is recommended for toddlers and preschoolers. It has an ISBN of 9780593530221.

Bring Snowmen At Work Into Your Early Childhood Classroom for Fun Winter Reading and Activities

Caralyn and Mark Buehner's Snowmen At Work is a fun read for teachers who teach in infant/toddler and preschool classrooms. Winter has come to many parts of the country and it's time to include stories about snow in your classroom library. Building a snowman is always a fun part of winter for many children. Snowmen At Work is in board book form for easy handling by little hands. I always had a selection of board books in my toddler/preschool classroom on a low bookshelf for the children to be able to easily reach. Board books are almost indestructible and these are popular for this age group.

*Read Snowmen At Work in a story time session.

*Take a class poll of the number of children who have built a snowman with their parents during the winter. Invite parents to send photos of snowmen that their family built during the winter.

*Call attention to the kinds of jobs that the snowman in the story is doing. Engage the children in a discussion of using their imagination about the jobs that these snowmen are doing.

*Each page features hidden pictures within the larger illustrations. Engage the children in a "treasure hunt" through the story to find the hidden pictures.

*Provide drawing paper, crayons, and markers for children to draw a snowman performing a job that they would like their snowman to do.

*Bring in a container of snow and a recipe for making snow ice cream during the winter season in your community.

*The text for Snowmen At Work is written in rhymes, which provides an opportunity for a language activity with your young students. Call attention to the rhymes as you read. Read the text in more than one story time for children to learn to recognize the rhyming words. Play a clapping game for children to clap when they hear words that rhyme when you read Snowmen At Work during the season.
