Human Trafficking FACTS:

  1. 161 countries are reported to be effected by human trafficking.
  2. The majority of trafficking victims are between 18 - 24 years of age.
  3. An estimated 1.2 million children are trafficked each year.
  4. An estimated 2.5 million people are in forced labour (including sexual exploitation) as a result of trafficking.
  5. Estimated global annual profits made from the exploitation of all trafficked forced labour are 31.6 billion US dollars.
  6. 95% of victims experienced physical or sexual violence during trafficking.

Freedom searched

by mind, not found.

Crippled hearts

cry tears in silence,

dried out, dare not

to be discovered.

Sunflowers in the dark

stems cut off by razor hands,

petals spread along the ground

so culprits walk a pretty life!

The unaware plucked by day

and placed in darkness,

human void filled with horror

beaten souls in confinement,

this could be worse yet

your own child or friend!

Crackling whispers,

"untie these hands

and trembling feet,

to get to a better place,

yet death closer,

than that day to come."

Sunflowers in the dark

stems cut off by razor hands,

petals spread along the ground

so culprits walk a pretty life!

Oh dear Love above,

send out your golden lions

armed with love and bravery,

to make a way to set them free,

and give them a voice

to sing to victory!

This is a beautiful poem Meg. Thank you for sharing it. :)

@Legendarygraduate, lovely to me you fellow poet.

I read through your poem last night, moving piece focused on #childtrafficking which needs to go viral, many are still clueless about this crime against humanity, especially young people falling prey daily!

Yes, they are usually tricked or forced against their will, and often may even get arrested by authorities when they try to escape because they have no documents/& many trafficked from other parts of the world into the US.

Thanks for making a difference, together we are stronger. Bless you

legendarygraduate on March 10, 2014:

Very beautiful Meg! I take this issue to heart as well. I learned just recently in 2013 by watching "Ghost Adventures", on Travel Channel in the U.S. that even American women are being forced into prostitution. I always thought that those women chose that lifestyle, but come to find out, the "pimp" keeps their money and their I.D., so that if they try to leave then they would lose everything that this vile pimp controls!

I will mostly definitely give this a 'Share', and see if I can help Poetry4Freedom. May the victims be blessed, forever. Thank you for sharing this beautiful poem!

Here is the link to my hub: https://discover.hubpages.com/literature/Follow-Me...

I went to the Facebook page and am following on Twitter, but not sure how to submit my poem.

John Hansen from Gondwana Land on February 03, 2014:

I have written a poem, called "Follow Me". I am about to make it into a hub now, and then I will submit it via Poetry4Freedom's Facebook page.

John Hansen from Gondwana Land on February 03, 2014:

Hey Pearl, I have already written one poem about child abuse and kidnapping called Mr Sammy's Torture Chamber. It isn't to do with trafficking, but it's in the same vein. Can you check it out and tell me if you think it would be suitable. I will still try to write another. Thanks.

Pearlmacb (author) from Switzerland on February 03, 2014:

Hi Jodah, that would be awesome if you could contribute a poem - let me know how you go! Thanks for your comment, just trying to help anyway I can to make a difference. Bless you

John Hansen from Gondwana Land on February 03, 2014:

It is an excellent cause you are championing. As I said on your other hub, I will try to write a poem on this subject for Poetry4Freedom. Good poetry here and disturbing facts.

Thankyou Ausseye for stopping by, commenting and sharing your thoughts. Silence must be heard! We need to speak up for the voiceless, raise awareness, educate especially young people to prevent them from falling victim of human trafficking, commercial child labour and sexual exploitation.

Ausseye on June 25, 2013:

A poem of strong character …love the hold you have on mind, body and spirit.

Freedom!!! Cry for equality and the right way…. A voice I hear constantly !!!

Humanity has but one price…the right to share this planet equally.

Just prompted some natural responses.

Pearlmacb (author) from Switzerland on December 08, 2011:

Hey why not, prose would work too!!!

That's right, It's a highly well organised crime!

...they hold underground auctions, and trafficked victims are numbered, and sold/resold etc.

Some Governments are connected to these criminals, help them with transits and passports etc.

What I find disturbing that traffickers seek young vicitms, because of customer demand, and easier for the criminals to break their spirit/control, condition them in that environment(onced trained they can be sold at a higher price) Makes me sick, to the say the least!I live in europe and the shocking stories that come from eastern europe, countless missing people, promised an attractive job abroad; never to be seen or heard again:(

Wesman Todd Shaw from Kaufman, Texas on December 08, 2011:

I'm not much good at poetry - but I could possibly write prose about it.

It's not just a Dallas thing, or a Texas thing - I read somewhere once that these women are part of a nationwide prostitution thing, and when "customers" are sort of used to the same faces, that the staff of those places will be exchanged for those of some other city - in other words, it's a cartel.

Pearlmacb (author) from Switzerland on December 08, 2011:

Hi WesmanTS, thanks for stopping by. Oh dear...Im certain the truth would be alarming!!!...weeks ago I watch coverage, they did a bust in califonia I think it was, a number of minors/trafficked were rescued. So, have you considered to write a poem to support this project? would be great:)

Wesman Todd Shaw from Kaufman, Texas on December 07, 2011:

In and around Dallas, Texas; there are more Asian "tanning salons" or "modeling studios" than you'd ever believe. I often wonder if those women that work in those places are here voluntarily.
