Relationship Poem: Bit By Bit Torn Apart
Relationships are complicated. Even though they bring happiness, they also bring lots of heartache and sorrow when things don't work out between people and when they decide to part as well.
With relationships being a huge part of our existence, relationship poetry is something that we can all relate to and connect with. We've all been there. We've all experienced the ups and downs of relationships.
Writing relationship poetry helps us cope, helps us heal. It helps others too, who've been in similar situations and feel like they have hit rock bottom.
As a poet, writing about relationships, that stem from my own personal experiences, is something that I do often. Here is one of my relationship poems called "Bit By Bit Torn Apart." I hope that you can connect to it in some way.
Relationship Poem: Bit By Bit Torn Apart
You said you had a girlfriend.
How did you think I'd feel?
Did you think I would like it?
Did you think I would heal?
I was already shattered,
But the news cracked me more.
And to fly over there,
Now I wasn't so sure.
Didn't think I could stand it
Knowing you are with her;
But I just had to see you,
Had to walk through your door.
So I filled up with courage,
And flew there to see you;
And I went on that tour,
To be closer to you.
But it ended so fast,
Faster than I expected.
And you went on your way,
While I was affected.
I knew you were near,
Yet you seemed far away.
Never once did you call me,
Or write me those days.
It's like I was no longer
That important to you.
It's like you didn't care
About being friends too.
You did not say good-bye,
When you knew I was leaving.
And so I flew back home,
Deep inside of me grieving.
And I wonder why you
Promised we can be friends,
When all that you did,
Was ignore me in the end.
Why you pushed me aside.
Left me there to burn.
Left me crumbling in pieces.
Left my heart being torn.
Why you couldn't just tell me,
To just go on my way,
And forget about friendship,
And forget those days.
Did you think it was best,
To just not say a word?
That it wouldn't hurt me;
Now that is absurd.
You knew how I felt
For you right from the start,
So you should have known
What was there in my heart.
And you knew very well
I'm an emotional soul,
And the things that are said
Can take their toll.
Yet you just lived your life,
Told me nothing at all,
And you didn't protect me,
Only made me feel small.
I felt I didn't matter,
Not to you or to others,
And I felt there's no reason,
There's no reason to bother.
To hook up with a guy,
Something special to start.
Because then in the end
I'd be left with a heart,
That is torn, that is damaged,
That can only feel pain.
So no reason to suffer
When there's nothing to gain.
So I placed myself there
In the shell all alone,
And I chose to live life
Without guys on my throne.
It was better that way
And I felt it would be,
Just the kind of life
That was meant for me.

Such a shame people like that! They have no real feelings. Why should they care if they shatter yours when they don't have feelings and have never or will never know the feeling of being hurt. Pity them.

This is a real live story that happens so often. It seems like the real love in life is to see who you can hurt the most. Yourself or your love one. There seem to be so much distance in your words that it does drive a person to sink in the dark side of life. Well written words my friend The electronic age does not help the situation as well. As everyone seems to be lost on there phones and not in love.

Thank you Barbara for the read and comment. Emotional poetry is what I love writing most and this piece is just that. This is a personal experience and while it led me to write this poem part of me wishes it had never happened because it inflicted its wounds on me.

This was written in a voice of sadness and hurt - relationships are hard to conquer even when there is love but this man was ridiculous!

Men and women both can be so cruel; well expressed.

You express your thoughts so vividly through your words. I followed you through every line. Love on the rocks can be tough but the love that you find can leave you satisfied forever. It's the ups and downs that keep us searching. Amazing things come to those who wait. Enjoy all the good that you see and let the bad disappear like magic in the air. Have a wonderful night.

This a Wonderful poem. I felt sad about the way things turned out - about being torn apart by the behavior of another person. Writing does help with things as we can get it out in the open and on paper, where we can see either sense or nonsense in things. Writing is a clarifier of so many things. Great poetry.

Your verses "speak" of a universal and timeless theme of this life/world, Lena. Sad, but true. Thank you for sharing and may you find true love.

This poem will melt a readers soul because there's real pain in the voice & it speaks volumes of truth - as I read this I felt the writer's pain and the lack of self-confidence building - this is profound!
