Poetry: Word Prompts Help Creativity / Week 4

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Article Summary

Poetry: Word Prompts Help Creativity/Week 4 is an article where I choose one word as a prompt for us to write a short poem, story, article, or whatever one decides. It's to help inspire that creative genius living inside each one of us. Possibly to write the beginning of the next best seller!

One Hectic Week

This week has been one of those weeks. The kind where anything that can go wrong, usually does.

My head is still spinning around the fact that someone actually opened an unemployment compensation fund in my mother's name.

She will be 81 years young in July and hasn't had a job in years.

Whoever attempted this fraud didn't think it through thoroughly, since she actually received a password in the mail alerting us to the problem. The person used her actual address.

Needless to say, there was a ton of paperwork & phone calls to be made to place fraud alerts on all of her accounts.

I contacted all three credit bureaus in hopes of protecting her from anyone opening up new accounts.

I suppose since the government is paying out extra stimulus money to the unemployed this is a high ticket crime.

Whatever happened to people working hard to make a dollar. It makes me wonder how these people can sleep at night. Don't they have a conscience?

In any case, I'm looking forward to putting this week behind me, so let's get started!

What Inspires Me

I can't explain what inspires me to write. It doesn't matter if the sun is shining, or if it is pouring down rain. We could be buried in a foot of snow or listening to the wind howl. I can be happy or sad.

It hits me anytime of the day or night. Sometimes when I'm lying in bed trying to sleep.

The other day we drove his Dodge Challenger for the last time and while we were waiting in a bank lobby I felt the inspiration to write a short poem.

But with word prompts, the gears in my brain just start instantly churning. I can usually write a short poem in no time at all.

Greg Cain Hits it Out of the Ballpark

Greg Cain created a superb article from last week's word prompt.

He takes us on a stroll down memory lane in his article, "Yesterday: A Day in the Life".

He walks us down strawberry fields to a time many of us remember. The era of The Beatles.

Most of us remember John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Star & George Harrison.

The song, "Imagine" by John Lennon still touches my heart today.

For those of you who have not had the time to read this work, please take a moment. It is literally amazing!

You can find the link below.

John Hansen Hit the Nail on the Head

I was astonished by the creative work inspired by last week's word prompt, "Yesterday".

I was delighted by John Hansen using the word prompt in his weekly series, "Poems from the Porch 56".

He reminds us to put yesterday behind us, for history cannot repeat itself.

Follow the link below to read his wonderful poem, "Yesterday".

This is a lovely poem.

He sees our sadness, and our joys but with him we will find peace.

Manatita44,

Thank you so much for your kindness.

You are right...bad things happen all over the world.

I just hate to see people taken advantage of...especially my own Mother.

I am anxiously awaiting my second vaccine. I am scheduled for March 24.

I am delighted to know my prompts are helping others be creative.

I think if you have fun writing, you tend to write more.

Have a wonderful day my friend.

manatita44 from london on March 11, 2021:

Sorry about the problems concerning your mom, Brenda. Unfortunately people will do bad stuff everywhere! I'm happy that you seem to have sorted it out or that the potential fraud was spotted in time. Happy that you got the vaccine too. Stay safe and blessed.

Your prompts are helping Hubbers. Inspiring! - Manatita

Greg,

Thank you.

That story about the Red over white is interesting.

I am taking John up on his challenge also.

It definitely is a bit different, but I like things that make me think out of the box.

Plus...it will be fun.

Take care.

greg cain from Idaho, USA on March 09, 2021:

Brenda - I love the poem you wrote for this: "Red sky at night..." and all the rest. Very evocative. We had a saying back in the day when I was flying in the Air Force: "Red over white, pilot's delight. White over red, pilot is dead." This was a quick reminder to use when looking at the lights on a Visual Approach Slope Indicator (or VASI, as we called it). As you fly an approach to land on a runway, the VASIs are located at the approach end, and they are useful for confirming (or not!) that you were on a correct glide path. Anyway, the "Red Sky" for sailors thing reminded me of that when I saw it this evening. Hope all is well, and thanks for doing all this these days. It seems to be keeping a lot of us busy. I believe I'm going to take John Hansen up next on his challenge...that one might take me some time to sort through. Be well and have a good evening!

The word "majestic" conjures up so many different images in one's mind. This one will be interesting.

Rosina S Khan on March 07, 2021:

Brenda, I think "Majestic" is a wonderful prompt word and I can't wait to read what write-ups come up from that single powerful prompt. By the way, I have read the article by Greg Cain and I think it is an interesting write based on the Beatles of yesterday.

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on March 07, 2021:

Pamela,

Thanks.

I think majestic will bring out a variety of different ideas.

I think you will find Greg's article quite interesting, but you are right about John.

He can take just about any idea or word and write a magnificent piece.

Have a great day.

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on March 07, 2021:

John,

Thank you.

I guess Covid does give these scammers something extra to attempt.

I am happy to share your link. Maybe a few others will drop by to read it.

I hope you come up with some ideas for majestic.

I will look forward to reading it in your Poems from the Porch series.

It has me a bit stumped...I'm still working on my own.

As for my mother, I guess time will tell. I surely hope we caught it in time.

Take care.

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on March 07, 2021:

Misbah,

Thank you.

I'm glad you enjoyed John's poem, "Yesterday".

Did you also read Greg Cain's article about The Beatles?

Funny thing about the police department, at first they didn't even want to file a report.

I guess they have been bombarded by complaints & they feel it's up to to unemployment office to investigate.

After contacting the sherriff's department the police did finally take down the information.

It is still not a formal police report, but it is documented in case anything further occurs.

Thanks again.

Have a great day.

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on March 07, 2021:

Peggy,

Thank you.

Who knows if they will ever catch the person who committed this fraud, but at least it is stopped so he cannot get any money.

I am looking forward to see what everyone creates for this one too.

Why not write about those parks?

That's the beauty of word prompts, they tend to make your mind jump to somewhere.

Have a great day.

Peggy Woods from Houston, Texas on March 07, 2021:

That is a shame that some scammer tried to take advantage of your mother's good name. Hope that person will learn a lesson that will keep him or her on the straight and narrow. Will look forward to reading some poems coming from the prompt majestic. My mind immediately went to Zion and some of our other national parks.

Misbah from The Planet Earth on March 07, 2021:

Brenda, Majestic is a nice prompt

I read and commented on John's poem — it was fantastic

It's sad to hear about the fraud that happened with your mother

I think a police complaint is necessary to make in such a situation.

Yes, I too think the same as you about how such a person can sleep at night. God Bless all.

Wish you the best of luck

Blessings

John Hansen from Queensland Australia on March 07, 2021:

Brenda, I hope everything is sorted with your mom. Scammers are out in force since the COVID. Thank you for sharing a link to my poem about yesterday too. “Majestic” I will think on...may be in another Poems From the Porch.

Pamela Oglesby from Sunny Florida on March 07, 2021:

Majestic ought to create some interesting results. John always hits the ball out of the park. I will check out Greg Cain's article. Thanks Brenda.

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on March 07, 2021:

Ann,

Thank you.

Tackle them in any order your heart desires.

I will keep posting the links under the Hubpages feed.

Or send me a message when you are ready.

I'm still working on mine for this week too.

Take care & have a great day.

Ann Carr from SW England on March 07, 2021:

Great idea, Brenda! I've added your prompt to my list. I have yet to do 'yesterday' but then I'll tackle 'majestic'. Thank you.

Hope all's well with you.
