an Interview With A Passionately Fair PatthePublisherPoet

Where are you from?

The small mining village of New Houghton in Derbyshire UK . Daughter of Robert Henry Farnsworth a coalminer and Ada Ellen Farnsworth nee Bingley a fully qualified nurse that served in both world wars ... who never stopped serving the community always on the call out for any emergancy... I am her only girl among six lads ...I attended the village sschool from 5 to 15 yeas then when I left i went to work in the offices at the Mansfield & Sutton co-operative store ....At 16 I fell in love with a boy I met when on holiday with my parents at the Skeness Derbyshire miners holiday camp ... Pleasley Pit where my Dad worked shared their weeks holiday yearly there with another coal mine in the county Langwith Pit... I met Harold and we fell in love instantly ... we had a whirlwind romance that led to me getting married ... which I so happily realising that I had now found in life what I most truly wanted ... being a wife and Mother... within one year I was both of these ... but sadly I then became a widow too when my husband died so suddenly with idioplastic anemea .. I buried him the day before my 18th birthday....After a few weeks to get me out the house living again my Parents encouraged my brothers to take me out with them to the pictures etc and the local village dance...where I danced with all my old school pals ... but I loved to jive and not one of the village lads my age knew how...Except Tony Simpson our Wilf's best pal who I had known all my life as we were born on same row was same age as our Wilf ( 2years my younger) so that when he asked me to jive i did so to be truthful rather reluctantly ... but the moment we stepped on the dance floor together we gelled and I just felt so save as he twirled me around catching me again in his strong powerful hands ... i saw him as I had never seen him before ... we danced every dance together then and we have done ever since as I soon had to marry again (happily being a Mum now once more to Jeannette and thentwo years later to Deborah) I am so proud of my children now all parents of grown children themselves ... Robert Dad to four and a granddad to six... my great grandchildren ...Jeannette (known under her working name Jeannette DuPont the international clairvoyante) she is mother of three most handsome, well mannered young men.. Deborah my youngest is also internationally well known as she lectures in Honorary Astrology at all English speaking countries the world over (Deborah Houlding at Syscript UK.) she is mother to 4 two handsome highly intelligent men (her eldest son my Grandson is a PHD tutor in maths at Dublin trinity college ) and two beautiful young ladies....So tony and I have been truly blessed we have been married 52 years this coming December...and praying we can double the figure in good healthy agility (Praying hard Ha Ha )

So for all that I am today I give credit and thanks to my having the best parents in the world, great wonderful caring brothers along with a wonderfully large loving extended family in childhood this being not just blood relatives but great neighbors and friends throughout life

the sort that you know you can always turn to if in need.. and many times in life I have had the need ...

It was in my latter years after I had moved to Scarborough to run our family "Hotlel Anatolia"

that I began going to the Scarborough Spiritualists Church with my daughter Jeannette who was herself then a working clairvoyante... I got so much out of attending church and I was even given a message once that I would be greatly known throughout the world for writing ... I laughed then as I had never written anything I even hated letter writing my brother who was then in South Africa I did write but only because I could not pick up the phone ...Which just goes to prove you should never scoff at messages given because one will never know until their last days whether they are correct or not....It was after this that I was given the task of writing a poem by my Tenerife friend which I did ,,,and as my writing grew so did my faith

I went to church regularly and I thengot my Spiritual Healing papers and later my Healing tutor papers for the YHA....Ans I began running development circles for others ... this gave me a great sense of pride especially when one of my group stood up on the rostrum to talk ...I wrote a poem for our Spiritualist church and it still hangs on the wall there today... Then I found I got some great self healing coming through from the writing of all the past that pained me, many true life stories of mine, some sad as you can see from what I have previously mentioned .. but there are many other stories I relate that are very funny and amusing as I spell out the antics we used to get up to in the 40's and 50's ... Such as the nine of us and a dog travelling everywhere together on a motorbike and sidecar...this all clearly portrayed in my biographical book "Lifes Carrousel" ...which can be found at link below... http://www.lulu.com/spotlight/Patthepublisherpoet

When and why did you begin writing?  / What inspired you to write your first book?

The first poem I wrote was done at the suggestion of my Canarian friend Mr.Hemelo Lopez-Dorta (A professor at La Laguna University in Tenerife) when I once asked him how I could thank him and all our other friends for their great hospitality and friendship, his reply was "Put it into words Pat write a poem" So I did and it was titled: The Friendship Tree... this poem I then entered into an international poetry competition to win the coverted "Silver Bowl Award"... which then led to a publisher contacting me about doing a book. My first titled "There's Something in the Parlour" (which in later years I re-published myself to "Life's Carousel" adding more poems with pictures to portray.
It was in my late fifties that I turned to writing poetry more seriously when I found it gave me something to focus on when facing a very serious worry in life ...(my daughter had a brain tumour) and yes it did help me carry the cross that was my burden ... At first my poems were all prayers to the Lord for His healing help… then about my childhood ...any thing that kept my mind occupied …until I was writing poems of happiness and joy in “Thanks” to the Lord for answering my prayers….. then loving it I continued to write, After getting my first couple of books published my daughter, who was a website developer at the time, taught me the ropes and so that I could self publish a book titled 'The Lucky Grub Book' for a Children's charity fundraiser, this book I did full of mine and other great donated poems from all the Poet friends I had then made world wide...
Being happy with the outcome I then did other simular fund raising boks both for children, the aged, 9 / 11, for the Troops, to aide Haiti and Japan plus a very special one that raises funds for the MJ Fanclub... The Magic of Michael Jackson" ...Now I have designed and published all my own books and many many more for friends, earning my title A Passionately Fair Publisher at apfpublisher.com

What inspires you?

Life itself, love, social issues, the need to share and express that we are all one and should be as ONE, helping others and the great enjoyment I get when I finish a book for another for them to beam with happiness at their creation and my cover design...But most of all writing children's great adventure story books that show all kinds of happenings in life, so that they are exciting with a good moral read,,, and always finishing with a happy ever after...

Have you a Favorite Place?
Yes! Home and that truly is when my familly are around... Other than that the Island of Tenerifeever since arriving there 30 years ago late at night from the UK where it was a very bitter cold December day. Going straight to bed I awoke next morning to look out the hotel window and be amazed at all the beauty I saw. From the sun beaming back at me from the lovely Tenerife azure blue sky, the great wonderful sights of banana plantations, palm trees and the flowers ... oh! The flowers with their rainbow of colors continually blooming and growing down the mountain side down to the sparkling blue waters of the Atlantic ocean ... 'Truly a vision of Heaven right here on Earth'
It astounded me so much to think that this is always here just a four hour flight away from the snowing cold depths of England to a winter paradise in the sun...I went every winter after that
and when we moved from Mansfield in the UK to Scarborough where because of Pit closures we moved to buy a family Hotel... for then we truly had it made ... working hard 7 x 24 for six months then like a swallow fly off to Tenerife for a long winter break... Loving the Canarian people over the years we made many wonderful friends... Now retired I am so happy and at home with them when ever I go home to the wonderful Anatolia block of apartments where in the winter I live.

Do you have a specific writing style?

Mostly I am a rhymer, but I enjoy doing all styles having now created 36 new styles of my own…all that have been tried and tested by other poets and used many times such as my "Acronet" "Limacros" and my "Christintina" just three of my forms that are created by set line syllable counting, the "Christintina" style I created to honor the lovely caring christian poet Christina R Jussaume who gives her time so freely as the Style Tutor at the Writers Alliance setting style challenges to the members while happily teaching new poets the style techniques.

Many other stylish forms I have created that I am proud of are done not with syllable counting but with concrete shape to form ,,, such as these my "Church Style" "Cruise Ship" as seen in picture and "Pub Bell"

I also very much enjoy trying out all other poets creations by taking part in the weekly style challenges that Christina sets for inspiration at the Alliance.

How did you come up with your book titles?

Mostly the book titles are the title of the first poem I put in book such as  “There’s Something in The parlour”… was the title of a poem that had something in the parlour being the content … I knew something was in there that I was not allowed to see… it was years later when I learned that the time I was barred from the Parlour was because my brother’s body was in there … he had been killed down the pit at 14years of age … This is all in my life's story poetry book now "Life's Carousel" if you read it through the pages you will take the up and down round and round ride that has been my life ...

Is there a message in your novels that you want readers to grasp?

Yes there are especially in all the children’s story books that I have written. They all have a moral in them to be learned and grasped at an early age , I believe very young children are so easily guided so I want to lead them down a good pathway ... so all my childrens stories are aimed at doing just that,... All of them are exciting which they have to be in order to hold a childs interest and all mine are ... This I know to be true as they are mostly stories I first made up for my own grandchildren when I put them to bed at night ... telling them so much each night till story concluded with its happy ending and moral learned ... Our lads loved the stories that I made up as I went along.... then next day they would be re telling them saying "What happens next Grandma" then I would say "I will tell you at bedtime"

They absolutely adore " Flick the Karate Fighting Pig " and the "Twinkles" they loved too because it is no ordinary fairy story ...It is full of adventure as they face hard times because of an Evil spell put on them by a very evil witch .... Oh! there is lots that happens in the "Twinkles" book that's highly exciting for both girls and boys .... as this is not a girlie, girlie book ... but one for all kids that ends once again with a great moral learned and of course though it takes a long time they all live happily ever after....

How would you describe your poetry website?

My website "The Writers & Poetry Alliance" was a golden wedding gift of two years ago created for me by my family,
This gift like a plant of love is growing and blooming, having Poets and writer members from world wide ... it is a private website where
Writers can freely and safely post their words to get an editting review from their peers ...
thus finding out another's response to what they have to say helping them to reach too if needed perfection ready for publishing....
I named it Alliance because that is just what the website is ...an Alliance of like minded people where all are equal ...
though I do have a wonderful caring admin team that are always there to voluntary help any member with a need and with the running the site ...
In our Alliance we welcome and embrace all in a very friendly, proffessionally caring way...
Now I this site along with all the books I have published I hope will become a lasting legacy from me. to all future lovers of the written word...

Have you a poem you would like to share with us?

Yes! I have two from my childhood back ground

'The Pit Ponies Holiday'

to all pit ponies past

Oh! What a lovely sight, to see,
Our Pit's Ponies, when they were set free.
Because they had a life then full of fun.
As round the fields, they could jump and run.
With two weeks out in the sun so bright,
Their eyes got blinded with the light.
But they didn't care, they were just relieved,
To have air so fresh, that they could breathe.

For when the miners finished their shift below,
It was back off home, that they could go.
But the poor Pit Pony stayed underground,
In the dark and dust and horrible sound.
Having memory of the tubs tied to their back,
That they had to pull back up the track.
Filled up to the brim with coal so heavy,
That made them stumble and be unsteady.
And by continually working both day and night,
The poor Ponies looked a terrible sight.
And unlike miners they couldn't stay off sick,
It was to work that they were forced to stick.
They were used and abused, lived a life of hell,
So holiday time for them, was really swell!

They must have thought they'd died and gone to heaven,
That they were now free and living up on 'Cloud Seven'
But holiday soon over, they had to go back,
For they had no hope of getting the sack.
But a few lucky one's that lived to grow old,
Had the chance, that they might get sold.

And hopefully bought by someone who,
Would treat them kind and love them too.
Give a stable and let them graze all day,
On fresh green grass and golden hay.

Now Ponies like children no longer go,
Into the bowels of the earth below.
It's machinery that does their work today,
So Ponies like children can now, have play.
But please don't forget the Pit Ponies past.
And the roll in life, that they had cast.
And pray all those 'Ponies' are in Heaven above,
With the Master, who treats them kind, with 'Love.

My co/director at the Alliance poet John Henson helped bring the last pit ponies out of Shirebrook pit forever in 1971

Now the one that means most to me... it was the first thing (All of my thoughts) that I ever wrote down on paper... years later when i was writing poetry I took my words out the drawer and I put them into rhyme ..This you can hear me read on video, with pictures to portray...

Fantastic Pat, feels a bit strange reading this as we come from the same place and everything is familiar to me. I am going to take this opportunity to say something. This lady Pat Simpson has helped put me where I am. I am Co Director Of The Writer's and Poetry Alliance and am gradually receiving international acclaim, in magazine articles, radio, and up coming the possibility of TV interviews and even pitches for movies. shortly my work is being entered into a permanent record of the best of contemporary poetry, to be held by The British Library. If not for Pat I would still be hiding my light under a bushell not having the confidence to let it shine. Thankyou Pat for being my publisher, mentor, friend and big sister X...........John
