Poems About Good People in Power
Maren, a Baby Boomer, has taught pre-school through college. She loves holidays, and playing in the snow.
Let the Good Light Shine
A Limerick about U.S. Elections
There once was a gop in Lan-KAST-er
Whose skin was - you guessed - alabaster.
The voters chose Izzy.
Incumbent got dizzy
And met his retirement faster.
A Children's Song Parody About U.S. Politics and Elections
We put a right-wing in,
We take a right-wing out.
We keep the right-wing out and
We brightly cheer and shout.
We heartily increase the numbers coming out to vote:
That's what it's all about.
Make voter regist'ring
An automatic thing
When people turn eighteen
All across the U.S.A.
The diff'rences between the states
Do not make any sense.
That's what it's all about.
We make D.C. a state.
They do not need to wait.
It's truly been too late
For their voices to be heard.
Taxation without suffrage is
So un-American.
That's what it's all about.
Electoral college: gone!
It's skewed things for too long
And stolen voters' choices
To make results all wrong
Democracy means everybody's
Choices should be heard.
That's what it's all about.
We do the CONSTITUTION
as it has grown with us.
Amended and awoke.
That's what it's all about.
God Says Ya Got It All Wrong
There were people in power who liked to hate
whoever was not from their pod.
No maleness? no pale skin? no power clique?
Then be our slaves, they cawed.
These rulers knew nothing of history
Or of humans, or earth, or God.
But God, the great Biggie of Better Things,
Observed and beheld they were frauds.
The Source, the Creator, the Chum Who is Good,
Started grooming new leaders who awed
Everyone with their caring and empathy.
The angels began to applaud.
The cheaters now failed.
The liars now railed.
The bullies and blackmailers tumbled.
The flags those beasts waved,
Banners of the depraved,
Joined the Nazis', Redcoats' and such rags.
God declared to the world, "You're ALL wrong.
Some humans are dangerously flawed.
My select group of BIPOC and perceptive peeps
Will repair my Earth, where I once trod."
Intolerance died.
Misogyny fried.
And money no longer bought power.
Every species was treasured,
Marriage rules severed,
And climate regarded as urgent.
Hallelujah, Amen,
Hallelujah, Amen!
And again, Hallelujah, Amen.
