Poem-Rainbows Brighten and Add Color to the Sky -Response Brenda Arledge’s Word Prompt Week 38

I love poetry. I am a voracious reader and am passionate about writing. I have recently started my foray into poetry.

Rainbows brighten the day

Rainbows brighten the day

Somewhere over the rainbow, skies are blue, and the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true

Word Prompts Help Creativity-Week-38-Rainbows

Our dear friend Brenda continues to inspire us with wonderful word prompts every week in spite of all the impediments to the challenge, due to removal of comments. Our hubber friends also continue to respond with creative outputs interesting to read. This week Brenda gave us the word prompt ‘Rainbows’

When I saw the word prompt this week, I was reminded of a day when the rainbow changed the whole concept of life for me. Of how the sight of the rainbow changed my mood, lifted the pall of anxiety and made the day a lot brighter for me.

In a perfect world, human beings would co-exist harmoniously, like a rainbow. A multitude of colors, each layer vibrant and clear by itself, but in unison, boundless, breathtaking, celestial.

— Mariah Carey

Rainbow Sighting Made my Day

Rain always brought a whole lot of problems with it. Maneuvering across water puddles, while vehicles splashed water onto us and shivering in the cold, wet to the skin, rainy evenings were literally a nightmare. Returning home from office, I would often encounter rain. The seemingly clear sky would suddenly turn ominous and there would ensue a huge downpour. I would invariable get stuck in the rain so often that I got used to the phenomenon.

On one such evening trudging home, after a hard day at work, with a lot of things on my mind, I came across a group of people staring in wonder at the sky. It had just stopped raining and the air was gloomy. So, when I turned towards the sky wondering what those people were looking at with such interest, I saw the most beautiful rainbow I had ever seen. I was fascinated by the sight and forgot all my woes, and kept gazing at it for some time. I went on feeling so much lighter. I also realized that life is beautiful and everything depends on our outlook. It is in our hands to shape our lives the way we want it. Spotting the rainbow that day changed my outlook of life.

Rainbows and Childhood

I reminisced how excited we would be to see a rainbow when we were children. At the same time, we would struggle to remember the right order of colors in the rainbow during the lesson on the subject. It was then that our teacher taught us to remember the word VIBGYOR. She also taught us the spiritual significance of each color in the rainbow.

We used to often go searching rainbows on rainy days, when the rain stopped and the sun came out. The sight of the rainbow always filled us up with cheer. Rainbows are beautiful to see in a gloomy sky after the rain. They bring hope of sunshine and cheer. The significance of each color adds meaning to this fascinating riot of color in the sky.

Every time you see a rainbow, every time you watch the sunset, and every time you remember a dream – they’re all little glimpses into what’s beyond our world

When a rainbow appears after a storm

It brings hope, cheer and wondrous form

Assuring us of beauty, happiness and clarity

Following times of doubt and insecurity.

The rainbow motivates us to be true to ourselves

It inspires us to strive for our dreams endless

To be guided by our inner voice always

And to not keep desires locked away

But strive to achieve those dreams today.

The rainbow tells us to not avoid doing our duty

Because it seems harder and problematic

By choosing the difficult and uphill road

The destination will be so much sweeter.

On gazing at the rainbow in the sky

Some have felt a connection with

Their near and dear ones gone by

Some have felt their ancestors

Communicating from above.

The faithful believe that it brings

Good fortune and happiness

After a period of sorrow and darkness

And that those who have endured

Will reap the rewards of their efforts.

Rainbows tell us to keep up our hopes

Even in the face of adversity and anguish

They tell us the problems will disappear

Just as the mist does when the sun appears.

Ancients believed it to be a path

Between heaven and earth

Also called this bridge the Bifrost

At the end of this arc was a pot of gold

If one could reach it and behold.
