Poem-Life Is a Journey Worth the Experience- Response to Word Prompt-'Life' by Brenda Arledge

We often wonder on the meaning and purpose of our life. We seek happiness in material objects and think that is the purpose of our life.

Life is a Journey Worth the Experience

Life is a Journey Worth the Experience

Word Prompt for this Week is 'Life"

This poem is about the journey called life. This is in response to the word prompt by Brenda. The word for this week is 'Life'. It is a very interesting word prompt and I can imagine the different varieties of poems our HubPages friends will publish this week. Pamela’s response combining her personal life story along with an acrostic poem, Haiku, and a poem on Life Meaning was excellent. Brenda’s poetry is inspiring and her word prompts motivate us to try new subjects and reveal our creative side every week. We are thankful to Brenda for the good work she is doing in encouraging fellow writers with this innovative idea.

Quote on Life

Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself-

— George Bernard Shaw

Meaning of Life

When we search for the meaning of Life, we come up with different definitions. Each person has his or her own idea of a perfect life. But broadly we can say that making our own checklist and enjoying every moment of the unique journey is the true purpose of our life. We need to invest in ourselves with our own vision of who we are and who we want to be to find true happiness and a balanced state of being.

But nothing is as important as caring for the people we love. Unconditional love for the people who care about us and for whom we care, be it our parents, children, pets, plants adds meaning to our life. Just being with our children, grandchildren, family gives us the balance and happiness to go on.

We need to constantly learn to grow. Nature, Music, and books are good sources of inspiration in life. Reading the autobiographies of great people who succeed against all odds and obstacles, everyday can be very uplifting.

Impermanence of Life

Life is transient We don’t know how much time we have left. To be grateful for this life and what we have, and to live this life fully by doing good to others, by caring for the people we love, to be honest with ourselves, to do the best in whatever we are good at should be the primary goals in our life. I maintain a gratitude journal and list all the things I am thankful for, daily. It keeps negative thoughts at a distance. Having a strong goal, choosing to do something that we are passionate keeps us inspired in life.

An Interesting Story

Here is a story of the historical meeting of Alexander, the great Macedonian conqueror and Diogenes, the Greek philosopher. Diogenes lived on the streets of Sinope by begging for food. Alexander with his great conquests and wealth, believed happiness was in relishing good food, best clothing, immense wealth and being powerful. Whereas Diogenes found happiness in living a life of simplicity, free from the constant struggle for wealth and power.

When Alexander went to meet Diogenes to offer him food, clothing, accommodation, and wealth, the wise man snapped back at him to move out of the way and allow him to enjoy the sunshine, and not block it with his shadow, to everyone’s astonishment. It was obvious that Alexander in spite of all his wealth and power was not happy and sought happiness through an association with Diogenes.

Quote by the Buddha

Quote by the Buddha

Realization towards the End

Later, on his deathbed Alexander is believed to have made three dying wishes of which his second wish was that all the wealth of gems and precious stones that he had conquered, to be strewn on the path that led to his grave, when his coffin was carried to the graveyard. He wanted it known that in the end, he could not take even a farthing with him and all the precious stones would turn to dust just like his body.

Life itself is like a precious gem. If lived fully with honesty, empathy, gratitude and in the service of others, gives true happiness and meaning. Such a person will be always remembered with love and admiration. Alexander realized that transitory worldly treasures turn to dust and can never give true happiness in life. But Diogenes’s happiness was in enjoying God’s everlasting natural gift of sunshine with contentment and gratitude.

The Poem-Life is a Journey Worth the Experience

Life is a delightful journey

A journey that is difficult

Yet so full of fun

With many lessons to learn.

Scroll to Continue

Give your full attention

And absorb every detail

Because the moments gone by

Will never return.

Live like you don’t know

Whether there is a tomorrow

Cherish every moment

Give life all you have.

You are a visitor

Enjoy the journey

Don’t mind the bumps

The end is worth it all.

Don’t complicate your life

Chasing after money

Be different, be the change

It is time to reach the goals.

When your heart is pure

your intentions are true

Your ideals are noble

Life will be with you.

There is magic in the air

Beautiful flowers in bloom

Feel the warm breeze

Soak up the sunshine.

The cool brook welcomes

Relish the beauty around

Be like a tree,

Strong even in adversity.

Don’t be afraid of impediments,

You are not alone.

Fellow travelers will stand by you,

And help you as you go along.

Always be kind and caring

to the people you love

Give more than you take.

It makes life worth living.

Start each day anew

With hope and appreciation

Knowing God is always

There with you.

Spare a moment each day

Fold your hands in gratitude

And thank God from your heart

For this precious gift of life.

I did some thinking on the word prompt Life this week. I know that much has been written and talked about on the subject of Life. Each person has a different perception on the actual meaning of the word. Then it struck me that it is a wonderful journey with valuable experiences. And it is up to us to enjoy this beautiful journey where we get to meet different people, make so many friends, learn so much and progress along the way. And when we keep our life simple, enjoying the gifts of nature with gratitude, we get true happiness and experience a meaningful life. BRENDA ARLEDGE from Washington Court House on April 21, 2021:

I like how your work starts off in the beginning by saying,

"We need to invest in ourselves with our own vision of who we are and who we want to be to find true happiness and a balanced state of being"

That no one knows how much time he has left and should be grateful.

Your story about Alexander & Diogenes points out that living a simple life is most rewarding.

We cannot find happiness by attching ourselves to possessions of the world.

We should live our lives fully by being an honest person who shows empathy towards others.

You poem is so full of inspiration.

Saying life is a beautiful journey & we should live it like there's no tomorrow.

To give more than you take. To be the change by being different.

To be like a tree strong in adversity.

Starting each new day being grateful & thanking God.

This is a wonderful reminder for us to live our lives to the best of our ability and even though the road maybe bumpy...if we are true to ourselves & grateful...our journey will be well.

Thanks for this wonderful piece of writing.

The comments are right...I do love it.

I will post a link in the word prompt article.
