Introduction

It has been almost 40 days since the start of this quarantine. It has been extended till May 15. During this time period, I am planning a huge celebration. A celebration of life, freedom, birthdays, weddings and graduations and everything else. We need a positive attitude and something to look forward to at this critical time.

40 Days...

Forty days is a long time. It is also significant in our history.

The word "quarantine" originates from quarantena, the Venetian language form, meaning "forty days". This is due to the 40-day isolation of ships and people practised as a measure of disease prevention related to the plague. ... The forty-day Quarantine proved to be an effective formula for handling outbreaks of the plague.

Forty days is significant in the Christian Bible. Jesus fasted for 40 days in the desert.

Christianity. Christianity similarly uses forty to designate important time periods. Before his temptation, Jesus fasted "forty days and forty nights" in the Judean desert (Matthew 4:2, Mark 1:13, Luke 4:2). Forty days was the period from the resurrection of Jesus to the ascension of Jesus (Acts 1:3)..

A Celebration

Ascension Day is traditionally celebrated the 40th day after Easter Sunday, that commemorates Jesus Christ's ascension into heaven according to Christian belief. 40 days after the resurrection, Jesus and his disciples went to Mount Olivet (Mount of Olives), near Jerusalem.

The Ascension day is Thur. May 21, 2020, exactly a week after the end of the Quarantine in the NY area.

With zoom and FaceTime and House Party and Google hangouts, we have been able to maintain some form of connection with our loved ones over this period. However, it is not the same. A face to face contact is essential to our well being. Social media is no replacement for socializing.

Over this period, we all have missed birthdays, anniversaries, weddings and graduations... I want to have one combined celebration to make up for all that we've lost.

A Simple BBQ

The most basic form of social gathering is a backyard BBQ. No need to dress up, no need to drive far, no need to spend time to prepare elaborate food, no fixed schedule.

I am planning a BBQ, one that will be remembered for years to come. It will mark the end of one significant event of our lifetime. It will match past events like the landing of a man on the moon in 1969 and the terrorist attack of 9/11 in 2001.

A celebration of the simple things in life that we value.

  • life
  • liberty
  • family
  • friendship
  • God
  • Country
  • health

Summary

It is time like this where we take stock of our lives. Recognize what is important. Back to the basics. Hit the reset button. Thank God for a wakeup call. And thanks for our blessings.

This is a positive and uplifting article. In the UK I know of some, unable to have a funeral of their choosing for loved ones, who have died during lockdown, who are now planning Thanksgiving services for a time when gatherings are permitted.
