Night Owl: A Poem

Author:
Being nocturnal animals, an owl is the symbol for those that enjoy staying up late.

Being nocturnal animals, an owl is the symbol for those that enjoy staying up late.

Gazing out the window, I watch the light settle down for the night,

As objects fade to black, my once stagnant mind becomes bright,

Lovely thoughts flutter around in my head like feathers flying,

My dreams soar across scattered hopes while doubt is busy dying,

I coo softly, wondering if others feels vibrant and alive at this time,

Though most, in the morning, hold an open mind that is prime,

For me, nightly inspiration comes as doors holding magic open wide,

Stars give off the light of truth as lonely deception runs to hide.

A baby owl is called an owlet.

Yes, I suppose you're right.

Thanks!

Yes, vibrant neon, like with bright make up, right?

'...as lonely deception runs to hide' is another thoughtful phrase.

Blessings.

Erin Bower (author) from Georgia on August 30, 2011:

Another repeat; I guess I must really like it! I do like neon colors.

f on August 29, 2011:

I just found the word 'vibrant' again, now in this poem! It seems to be one of your words!

Blessings.

I haven't heard of it. I'll have to check it out later.

Do you know Edward Hopper's famous picture 'Night Hawks'? It should be on Google. It's very expressive, I think.

Erin Bower (author) from Georgia on August 18, 2011:

f: Sometimes I do. :)

...and while you listen to Owl City, right? :)

Erin Bower (author) from Georgia on August 11, 2011:

Thanks, Erika! I have been a night owl since birth; literally. I kept my parents up all the time. I didn't want to miss anything; lol! That's when I'm inspired as well. Thanks for voting! :)

Erika Moriarty from Pennsylvania on August 11, 2011:

Great poem! I am totally a night owl.

Erin Bower (author) from Georgia on July 23, 2011:

Thanks for rating, kittythedreamer! I've been a night owl since birth; I would hardly ever sleep as an infant. I still hold a natural curiousity about what is happening around me, so I don't want to miss anything. Therefore, I am an avid night owl. It's also the time when I get my best writing ideas and when I'm most motivated to get things done. Thanks so much for reading!

Kitty Fields from Summerland on July 23, 2011:

Ebower - I voted up and awesome on this poem. I was a night owl in college, and loved being awake all through the night and sleeping during the day. No one is on the roads at night, the stores are empty, and it is quiet...what's not to like about being awake at nighttime?

Erin Bower (author) from Georgia on July 22, 2011:

I'm glad you enjoyed this, LVidoni5. Yes, what is a night owl poem without cute owl pictures to lure the reader in? lol Well, at least you've got the time right. Thanks for commenting!

Leone Vidoni from Portland, Oregon on July 21, 2011:

This one brought a smile :) plus those owl pics are just so darn cute! And I am a night owl.. who apparently reads poems about night owls.

Erin Bower (author) from Georgia on July 18, 2011:

I love to read at night myself. I used to get in trouble as a kid when I tried to read at night and then my parents caught me, so I had to go to sleep lol. Thanks for commenting, ahorseback! I appreciate you sharing your opinion.

Oh wow; that must have been so magical! I've never seen an owl in person. Thanks, that was very sweet of you to say. Thanks for commenting, SusieQ42!

I once saw a white owl sitting on a fence post in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains. It was the most beautiful site. This is a wonderful poem. Then again, I always enjoy reading your hubs!

I'm glad to know a fellow night owl. I like how you described your mind at night: 'fertile and creative'. That's how I feel also. Thanks for commenting and voting! Have a lovely day! :)
