My Pageviews Just Rolled Over to 1,000,000 on HubPages

Margaret Minnicks has been writing for HubPages for a long time. She is an expert about a variety of subjects she writes about.

I was excited when my pageviews rolled over to 500,000 just six months ago on August 17, 2018. I knew it wouldn't be long before I would get the other 500,000 to have 1,000,000 pageviews from loyal readers.

On February 16, 2019, I had been watching the meter and it was 999,997 with just three more pageviews to go. The next time I looked, it showed 1,000,627 pageviews. They are continuing to increase. I am very encouraged to see that my articles had been read that many times.

Last August when I reached 500,000 pageviews I examined what made that happened. I will do the same with this major accomplishment so that I will be able to rack up pageviews as I continue to write consistently.

Evergreen Content

I believe the success of my writing is that I do not write anything that I would not like to read myself. In fact, I do go back from time to time to read my own articles for the pure enjoyment of reading them and to revise them so they can stay fresh.

I joined HubPages in March 2011, but I took several years off while I was experimenting with other sites. I am so thankful that I never gave up writing for HubPages because that is the only site I write for now.

I have discovered that my evergreen content gets more pageviews than any other type. Of the 767 articles I have written, about 90 percent of them are evergreen. That means they are still being read over the years which amazes me.

Assessment of My Articles

I have examined my articles to determine which ones contributed to a million pageviews. I still cannot believe the article that has received the most pageviews is one I wrote on February 4, 2017, "Bell Peppers: Differences Between Green, Yellow, Orange, and Red." It brought in 71,166 pageviews in no time at all, and the numbers keep increasing. I had no idea so many people would read that particular article. However, I am glad they did.

To my dismay, I do not get many pageviews when I write about the death of celebrities and well-known people. I think it is because the news is all over the media and everybody else is writing and talking about it. Besides, the articles have a very short lifespan.

I used to write for a site where the administers suggested that I keep writing "soft news" instead of "hard news." Now I know exactly what they meant. I write about soft news that I know something about. Therefore, I stay away from politics.

I have discovered that my "How to" articles get many views. Also, my audience likes to read polls, studies, and surveys. I consider them my "fun articles" such as the followings:

  • "What the Color of Your Car Reveals About You?"
  • "The Way You Like Your Eggs Cooked Says a Lot About You"
  • "Your Eyeglasses Say Something about Your Personality"

I write an article about the Royal Family and especially about Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex almost every day. Something is about the Royals is in the news daily. Therefore, there is no shortage of royal news to turn into articles.

Motivational Articles

Almost everyone needs encouragement and something to lift them up. I like writing motivational articles because while I am helping others, I am also helping myself through my own writing.

Spiritual and Bible Articles

I get a considerable number of pageviews from my inspirational and Bible articles. I have been an ordained Bible teacher for over 30 years. Therefore, it is easy for me to write articles that turn into Bible lessons.

My very first article on Psalm 27 is just as current today as when I wrote it eight years ago. The views have added up over the years that have helped me accumulate the one million pageviews.

Promoting Articles

I promote my articles on several social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google Plus, Tumbler, LinkedIn, and Mix. I am always searching for new groups on Facebook to join and other social media sites. Google Plus is shutting down on April 2, 2019. That will force me to find a replacement for it.

I have discovered the best way to get views is to promote the articles. There is no need to write an article and just let it sit there. You should let people know it exists.

Thank you for reading my articles over the years.

Thanks for answering my question.

Have a great day.

Margaret Minnicks (author) from Richmond, VA on February 21, 2019:

Brad, yes, that is about average. I have noticed that my faithful subscribers are the ones who usually comment.

Brad on February 21, 2019:

I am curious about how many comments you received from those impressive million views? I get about 10% comments 20% if I add my responses. I just wanted to know if that is the normal, or am I really on the low end?

Congratulations!! It took me several years to reach the million mark. Now I'm almost to four million, and it's only taken three years to gain the additional three million views.

I think you make a great point, that promoting the articles on social media is an important key.

I look forward to reading more of your work.
