My Lyric "Angel"
One of my favorite things to write besides poetry is lyrics. It would be nice to actually write the music to go along with the lyrics, but unfortunately I don't play any musical instruments so I have to resort to singing them a capella.
Usually, when I write the lyrics I tend to have some sort of melody in my head, or a way to sing the words. After writing the lyrics, I sing them to make sure the flow is great and I like how they sound. Sometimes though, I might get an idea for a lyric—be it a phrase or some lines—and I just go and work on expanding the idea further into a complete song. In the midst of this process I might get a melody in my head for a way to sing the song. So, even though my lyrics don't have any actual music to go along with them I still think of them as songs because they can all be sung a capella.
Writing songs is therapeutic, creative, and fun. It can be thought of as that much needed medicine but without the unwanted side effects, except maybe the tears in your eyes; but that is not a bad thing in my opinion.
I have written over 350 lyrics so far. One of them is called "Angel." I wrote it after listening to a song called "Gloomy Sunday" performed by Heather Nova. I became so inspired by that song that my song "Angel" was born. I wanted to share it with you so here it is. The lyrics are followed by a recording I did of the song on my computer so you can get an idea of the way the lyrics can be sung. I hope you enjoy the lyrics and the song.
My Lyric "Angel"
I look out the window in search of you
Watch the falling leaves floating weightlessly
And the time like a turtle crawls slowly too
As I envision you walking here endlessly
You are here
You are an angel
Hanging above me
Gracing me with your essence
Day and night
You're my protector
Here beside me
Guarding my existence
So I am all right
The rose bouquet you have given me
Still hangs from a vase dried and withering
The petals are scattered like ashes here
And the memories I hear them whispering
He is here
You are an angel
Hanging above me
Gracing me with your essence
Day and night
You're my protector
Here beside me
Guarding my existence
So I am all right
All these things in my path that remind of you
Only give my heart yearning to join you
To give up my last breath so I'm close to you
So my soul that breaks can now link with you
I'll be there
I'll be your angel
Hanging above you
Gracing you with my essence
Day and night
I'll be your protector
Here beside you
Guarding your existence
So you are all right
And when our fates align
And I'll be there with you
We'll be angels together
We'll be linked here forever
As it was meant to be
Me and you
We'll be two angels
Hanging above them
Gracing them with our essence
Day and night
We'll be their protectors
Here beside them
Guarding their existence
So they are all right
An a cappella recording I did of Angel

lovebuglena. Hi. Oh your lyrics are absolutely beautiful.
" Angel" the name you have chosen is perfect.
I believe that there is an Angel on my shoulder and has helped me out on many occasions.
You are very talented, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading your hub.

kaltopsyd - Usually I have a melody in mind when I write lyrics. Sometimes it's a melody of a popular song and sometimes it's my own melody.
There are times when I just start singing out of the blue, making up my own words as I go. When that happens I try get a pen and paper, or get to a computer, and start writing things down and before I know it I get a whole song together.
I am thrilled you loved this lyric. Thanks for the feedback. I really appreciate it.

Beautiful! So... when you write lyrics, do you actually have a melody in mind? It may seem like a silly question with an obvious answer but I'm just wondering. :)

Thank you for the feedback Regis. You have not told me this story. Wow! I am so glad the guy didn't run you over. Maybe it really was the angels that saved your life. :) No harm in believing in them.

I like it, Lena. I may have told you before... ...I really don't know where I'd be today if angels had not saved me time and time again along the way. Just yesterday as I was speeding down the mountain on my bike, this guy on a motorcycle going the other way was going too fast and he went totally over the solid yellow line heading straight for me. It was on a curve so he had not idea that I was there. I still don't know how he missed hitting me head on. I was in shock for about ten minutes. Yes. I am a fan of angels and I like your song even though your "angel" here may be of a different ilk. Thank you.
