Micro-Poem (No.7) Sci-Fi Geek

John values the use of humour and enjoys writing and reading limericks and jokes. He is a fan of Dr. Seuss, Edward Lear and Shel Silverstein

The Tardis has landed.

The Tardis has landed.

Amy Pond and The Doctor

Amy Pond and The Doctor

Frodo Baggins and the Ring

Frodo Baggins and the Ring

Sci-Fi Geek

I'm a fantasy and sci-fi geek

Some people may think I'm a freak.

Through time and space with Dr Who,

Or part of Firefly's gallant crew.

I may be found in distant skies

Captaining the Enterprise,

Or helping Frodo find the ring,

To slaying dragons for the King.

The real truth is,

I'm a Man In Black,

Just waiting....

For my memory back.

micro-poem-number-seven

"It's all true!" Luciente shouted with amazement . . . "Sometimes I suspect our history is infected with propaganda. Many of my generation . . . suspect the Age of Greed and Waste to be . . . crudely overdrawn. But to burn your compost! To pour your shit into the waters others downstream must drink! That fish must live in! Into rivers whose estuaries and marshes are links in the whole offshore food chain! Wait till I tell Bee and Jackrabbit! Nobody's going to believe this."

Great work and good job to incorporate some of the shows and movies within the poem. I enjoyed this poem.

John Hansen (author) from Queensland Australia on August 25, 2014:

Thanks Nell. Yes it usually takes a few episodes to embrace the new Doctor doesn't it, but Peter Capaldi was growing on me by the end of the first episode so I think he will be good. I wasn't sure about Matt Smith at first but I got to like him. Star Trek's a classic too. Glad you enjoyed this.

John Hansen (author) from Queensland Australia on August 25, 2014:

Hey Carrie, sounds like you enjoyed this poem :) sorry it wasn't longer, but I do have about 14 other micro poems written in a similar vein, that you may like to check out. Thanks for reading.

Nell Rose from England on August 25, 2014:

Me too Jodah! lol! I love the new Doctor Who, Peter Capaldi is okay! I say okay because it was only the first episode a couple of nights ago, but so far so good! And yes Star Trek, my favorite of all time, so here's to us sci fi nuts! lol! loved your poem!

Carrie Lee Night from Northeast United States on August 25, 2014:

Jodah: Great start ! :). Funny and interesting :). My only criticism is I want more ! :). I want to hear much more about your geeky obsessions :). Thank you for sharing.

John Hansen (author) from Queensland Australia on August 25, 2014:

I love to watch and read Sci-Fi

It's a great pleasure to the mind and eye

Love it and love your poem!!

Voted up, awesome, and interesting.

John Hansen (author) from Queensland Australia on August 25, 2014:

Thanks for reading Mary, this is one of my micro-poem series. They are all very short. Sort of a poetic version of flash fiction. Glad you liked the soundtrack and thanks for the vote up.

Marie Flint from Jacksonville, FL USA on August 25, 2014:

Hello Jodah,

I enjoyed the poem and thought you did a good job expanding the theme for hub length. (For some reason, though, I thought the poem was going to be epic length, in spite of the title saying "micro-poem.")

Nice soundtrack.

Voted interesting.

Phyllis Doyle Burns from High desert of Nevada. on August 24, 2014:

Hi Jodah. You are most welcome. I am revamping, too. I update one or two every few days. Every time I do, the score really jumps up fast, which is nice to see.

John Hansen (author) from Queensland Australia on August 24, 2014:

Thank you Phyllis. I haven't written a micro-poem in awhile. I have to rectify that. I have been going through all my lower ranked hubs though and revamping them. Whatever change they have made to the HP algorithm seems to be working ok, as every hub I have updated has increased in score. Thanks for the vote up.

Phyllis Doyle Burns from High desert of Nevada. on August 24, 2014:

Such a sci-fi Geek. You are so good at this kind of poem. And the pictures you find really enhance the hub. Voted UP, A, I, wonderful and H+

Thank you so much Suzette, I really appreciate your kind comments.

Suzette Walker from Taos, NM on November 15, 2013:

Really a cool poem! I am not into sci/fi that much, but I do like fantasy. I like how you pulled all this together in one poem and the images are fantastic. Enjoyed reading this!

John Hansen (author) from Queensland Australia on November 15, 2013:

Thanks for the advice Suzanne. I'll have to look into that.

Suzanne Day from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia on November 15, 2013:

If you put them into a book with a snazzy title and great front cover, then publish on Amazon Kindle (electronic version only) it costs nothing! I put a book up that way. It was fun and easy (apart from getting the formatting in Word right for Amazon). Then you could link to it in your hubs!

John Hansen (author) from Queensland Australia on November 15, 2013:

Yes drbj, I've been trying to keep it a secret...haha, but now the truth is out there.

Thank you Marie Maric.

Hi Suzanne,

Thanks for the compliment. I've been contemplating that with their popularity. Don't really know how to go about getting a book published but may have to look into it...read some tips on here.

Suzanne Day from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia on November 15, 2013:

Your poetry just keeps getting better and better. Are you going to make a micro book?

Mahir from Bosnia and Herzegovina on November 15, 2013:

Awesome poem,

drbj and sherry from south Florida on November 15, 2013:

So you are a sci-fi geek?

I would never have known.

May the fantasy you seek

Remain now that you're grown.

John Hansen (author) from Queensland Australia on November 15, 2013:

Hi Kim, thanks for visiting my hub and voting up. Did you seen the Firefly movie? Apparently the reason the series was canned after one season is there was a major stuff up and they showed the episodes out of order. Anyway you can download the entire show online still I think. Anyway, enough geek talk, thanks again.

ocfireflies from North Carolina on November 15, 2013:

Jodah,

Interestingly enough, I never saw the Fireflies series which I would have for sure checked out being a firefly enthusiast.

Really enjoyed your poem. V+
