Lynn Anderson Tribute - 3rd in Project Good Thoughts -

This is the third in the series "Project Good Thoughts"

This is the 3rd in Project Good Thoughts a spin off of The Good Words project, created by Joanne Grace Goldsmith to promote unknown writers and help us become the best authors/poets/writers we can be.

This is also my tribute to singer Lynn Anderson.

To Bob's place

Many years ago when I first met my true love, it was the day before my birthday, I was sad and lonely because he had to work, and had other commitments for after work, and he did not know that it was my birthday.

While cleaning house and listening to my music and feeling blue, my friend Delores knocked on my door and asked do you want to drive out to Bob's place, our kids would love it? Bob was a friend that we both knew.

I said why not? I have nothing better to do.

Good! She said, because I already called him and he is expecting the six of us, that would be Dolores, her two girls, me and my two boys.

At the "Top of the World"

It was late evening when Delores, her two girls, me and my two sons arrived at Bob’s place, and he had two of his hunting cabins prepared for us, and dinner waiting for us in his house.

Bob’s Place was a small hunting and fishing resort on the bank of Rock River in Illinois.

After a wonderful Dinner, Bob said; let’s go out for a drink. It was already planned that Dolores’ daughter (who was my babysitter during the summer) would babysit my boys and Bob asked her to babysit his son and daughter also and Bob, his wife Marcella, Dolores and I headed for a rustic bar with a real live band and also a DJ.

Happy Birthday Shyron

Bob went up to the bar to order drinks and he had this kind of Cheshire Cat grin when he came back to the table.

The waitress brought the drinks and the band took a break, and the DJ said on the speaker, this next song is to wish a happy birthday to a special lady, from her friends at Bob’s Resort, and everyone cheered.

I was looking around to see who was born on my birthday, I didn’t know that they knew it was mine. Then the DJ said: 'Happy Birthday Shyron.'

And I hear:

"Such a feelin's comin' over me
There is wonder in most everything I see
Not a cloud in the sky, got the sun in my eyes
And I won't be surprised if it's a dream"

I had listened to “Rose Garden” so many times that I knew that it was Lynn Anderson singing “Top of the World” the next day that song was still playing in my head even when we went horseback riding.

It was a great weekend, my sons really enjoyed the fun and games then on Monday after work, I went and bought the record of that song, which I still have to this day, and it is on the album that I bought a few years later.

Bob's horse Razz

Bob's horse Razz

Have you ever?

Have you ever heard a phrase or a song that brought nothing but good thoughts?

Although, I was/am saddened by the passing of Lynn Anderson, when I hear "Top of the World" I have nothing but Good Thoughts.

I know Lynn Anderson's name is synonymous with Rose Garden and, although I love Rose Garden and sing along with it every time I play it, "Top of the World" has more meaning for me.

A Poem for Lynn Anderson, from a life long fan.

I woke to the sound of the radio coming on

Lynn Anderson passed away I heard someone on the radio say

Although I felt so saddened because you passed away

My mind was flooded by the Good Thoughts that I had

Of your songs of yesterday

My Good Thoughts were in a whirl

Now you really are “At the Top of The World”

Lynn, as Mentor Williams said, “It is the healing power of music”

That is the power that you had

When I was nostalgic or homesick

I would listen to your rendition of “Blue Bayou”

When I need to have a good one because I was feeling low

I would listen to you sing “Cry” and let those needed tear drops flow

You were my favorite –

And will always be my favorite female singer

Lynn was a kind and gentle soul!

As the brother of her longtime partner Mentor Williams, songwriting great Paul Williams considered himself Anderson’s “brother out-law.” He noted that he and Anderson "wrestled some of the same bears.

I know how she struggled. And I know how she triumphed. And there is wisdom in the wound, and Lynn, you shared that wisdom. People will never know the times you walked into a corner with somebody who was suffering, and didn't know what they were going to do to get themselves back into the light and out of the darkness. I watched you walk into a corner, grab that person's hand and say, 'Baby, it's gonna be all right."

Always liked Lynn Anderson and remember her debut on the Lawrence Welk Show. She'd have been 74 this coming Sept. if she had lived (died in 2015).

Surprised at how many singers died in 2020. As time passes, it seems like I know more dead people than live ones!

Posting this to AH &FB again.

Hope you and yours are well and happy. Blessings, dear friend.

C E Clark from North Texas on September 30, 2020:

Back to review this excellent tribute to one of country music's greats and to share it on AH & FB.

Hope all is well with you and that you are planning to vote soon. Early voting here begins October 13. I think that's for the whole country.

Stay safe, dear friend, and as always, many blessings . . .

C E Clark from North Texas on November 16, 2019:

Back to share this excellent tribute on AH & FB. Lynn recorded some great Christmas music too, and Christmas is only about 40 days or so away.

Hope all is well with you and that you're enjoying our pretty days now that the cold spells are behind us for a little while. Yes, they'll be back, but for now it's good weather to go out in the daytime.

Blessings, dear friend . . .

C E Clark from North Texas on May 29, 2019:

Finally able to post this to Awesome HubPages, and FB again as well. I was surprised to learn Lynn Anderson died of a heart attack. I know women die of heart disease far more often than breast cancer though many people believe due to all the hype about breast cancer, that it is the biggest killer of women, but I don't often hear about women having an actual heart attack.

We are having thunderstorms this afternoon and it's currently dark as night though it's only 3 PM. There was a tornado warning about an hour ago. Hope you are well and staying safe. Blessings dear friend . . .

C E Clark from North Texas on September 14, 2018:

I remember when Lynn used to be on the Lawrence Welk Show. I think that's the first time I ever saw her. Posting this on FB. For some reason it won't let me post to Pinterest anymore. Hope things are going well for you. Blessings and hugs dear friend . . ..

Shyron E Shenko (author) from Texas on April 06, 2017:

Au fait, thank you for coming back to listen to the music of Lynn Anderson. Music can take one's mind off the woes of the day.

John, Chipper and I wish you well with many Blessings.

C E Clark from North Texas on March 29, 2017:

Came back to listen to some good music and forget the woes of the world, especially the woes of this country, for a while. A very thoughtful tribute to a special person and so well written.

Hope all is well with you and John and Chipper. Take care dear friend . . .

Au fait, thank you for the comment, I do appreciate you so very much. It was good to talk to you yesterday. I think it is so sad that HP took the share button away and also the Tweet button is now gone. I don't know why they discourage any hubs that they have not deemed worthy of getting on a niche site. I read so many great hubs that have not been niche picked.

Yes I am feeling so much better than yesterday.

Blessings and hugs my dear friend.

C E Clark from North Texas on January 14, 2017:

Back to review this thoughtful tribute to Lynn Anderson again. Wish it were possible to share it so that newbies who have joined since you wrote it would have it brought to their attention.

Very chilly again. First it's 80 and the very next day back in the 30s. Isn't it strange how there isn't a single place on earth that has moderate temperatures everyday all the time? Not even one.

Hope you are feeling better. You really need to get more Vitamin C. Hope John is well, too. Blessing for you both dear friend. Take care . . .

Shyron E Shenko (author) from Texas on July 13, 2016:

Au fait, thank you for the comment, compliments and for sharing.

I think about this every time, I hear one of her songs and especially when I was reading about Patsy Cline and how she died.

It was really a sad, sad accident.

Au fait, thank you again for coming back to re-read this. Lynn was an amazing artist and I loved all her songs, every one, I still have her albums, 45 records and now her CDs.

When it rains it pours, I don't know if I told you, but our heat pump went out. The heat pump is the unit outside.

Blessings and hubs, hope all is well with you.

C E Clark from North Texas on October 26, 2015:

Came back to read this excellent tribute again. I remember seeing Lynn Anderson for the first time on the Lawrence Welk Show and I even used to have a couple of her albums even though I was just a kid. Sharing again.

What a pretty day we've had, and it started out nice and cloudy. I know most people like sunshine, and I do too, but we so rarely have clouds here that they are a nice change from having the sun always in my face and beating on me.

Hope all is well there. Blessings and hugs dear friend. Take care . . .

This is a very special read. :-) I never knew the lady behind the beautiful voice. I mean, I heard the songs but never connected it to be her voice.

I was sadly not a 'huge fan'. But now with reading your tribute.

It looks like I missed out on something special.

Thankfully, I have been redeemed! This is just beautiful Sis. :-)

Shared and Up for Awesome, beautiful and what Great thoughts!

Ann Carr from SW England on August 09, 2015:

Lovely tribute, Shyron. I remember 'Rose Garden' but the only version of 'Top of the World' I know is by The Carpenters and I love Karen's voice too.

It's funny how songs do that, suddenly recall certain times, events, people and places. I have a few and they all bring good thoughts.

Great hub.

Oh, Shyron, this is a beautiful hub here, with your personal story of sharing your wonderful surprise birthday party to the lovely tribute to a fine lady. I remember these songs and have always loved them, but I had forgotten about them, so thank you for the wonderful reminder. She certainly was an angel on this earth, just like you.

Up ++++ and sharing everywhere

Hugs and blessings always

Shyron E Shenko (author) from Texas on August 08, 2015:

Ruby, thank you for the comment. She was still touring as late as June of this year. I followed her career, and always saddened by her alcohol addiction and always had the hope she could get sober and stay that way, but I know from going to my friend's recording studio once you are hooked and drinks keep being put in front of you, it is to hard.

I appreciated her music, and the fact that she was such a kind person.

I really appreciate you.

Blessings and Hugs

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on August 08, 2015:
