Love Quotes: Living a Life of Love

There is more to love quotes than just romance.

If you can believe that love is learned then we have tremendous hope that we can live a life of love. Our definitions of love have varied through the years. Many will argue and debate on what love truly is. I too have to define it over and over again. But when you know it to be true, your soul will resonate with the words and it will give you the knowing and peace.

May these love quotes inspire you as you continue to live a life of love.

"The law of Love is based on abundance; we are completely filled with Love all the time, and our supply is always full and running over. When we give our Love unconditionally to others with no expectations of return, the Love within us extends, expands, and joins. So by giving our Love away we increase the Love within us and everyone gains." -- Gerald G. Jampolsky

“Life has taught us that love does not consist of gazing at each other, but in looking together in the same direction.”-- Antoine de Saint-Exupery

“Where there is love, there is life.”-- Indira Gandhi.

“I finally realized that being grateful to my body was key to giving more love to myself.”-- Oprah Winfrey

“Where love rules, there is no will to power and where power predominates, love is lacking. The one is the shadow of the other.”—Carl G. Jung

Love Quotes for Inspiration

"The Highest Thought is always that thought which contains joy. The Clearest Words are those words which contain truth. The Grandest Feeling is that feeling which you call love." --Neale Donald Walsch

“Respect is love in plain clothes.” – Frankie Byrn

“Understand the obstructions you are putting in the way of love, freedom, and happiness and they will drop. Turn on the light of awareness and the darkness will disappear. Happiness is not something you acquire; love is not something you produce; love is not something you have; love is something that has you.”--Anthony De Mello

“You want a love which is born out of meditation, not born out of the mind.” -Osho

“Our soulmate is the one who makes life come to life.”—Richard Bach

“Don’t hold to anger, hurt or pain. They steal your energy and keep you from love.”—Honore de Balzac

"I love you, not only for what you are, But for what I am when I am with you."—Roy Croft

“But let there be spaces in your togetherness and let the winds of the heavens dance between you. Love one another but make not a bond of love: let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.” -Khalil Gibran

“If people become better Hindus, better Muslims, better Buddhists by our acts of love, then there is something else growing there.”—Mother Teresa

“Love is always bestowed as a gift - freely, willingly and without expectation. We don't love to be loved; we love to love. “—Leo Buscaglia

“Start living now. Stop saving the good china for that special occasion. Stop withholding your love until that special person materializes. Every day you are alive is a special occasion. Every minute, every breath, is a gift from God.”--Mary Manin Morrissey

“I think our learning lies along the path of whatever it is we love.”—Richard Bach

“Life without love is like a tree without blossoms or fruit.” – Khalil Gibran

“Love is always open arms. If you close your arms about love you will find that you are left holding only yourself. “—Leo Buscaglia

“I believe that every single event in life happens in an opportunity to choose love over fear.”—Oprah Winfrey

“If we all discovered that we had only five minutes left to say all that we wanted to say, every telephone booth would be occupied by people calling other people to tell them that they loved them.”—Christopher Morley

“A lady of forty-seven who has been married twenty-seven years and has six children knows what love really is and once described it for me like this: 'Love is what you've been through with somebody.'”—James Thurber

"When we think we have been hurt by someone in the past, we build up defenses to protect ourselves from being hurt in the future. So the fearful past causes a fearful future and the past and future become one. We cannot love when we feel fear.... When we release the fearful past and forgive everyone, we will experience total love and oneness with all." -- Gerald G. Jampolsky

“Hearken to the word; understand knowledge; love life, and no one will persecute you, nor will anyone oppress you, other than you yourselves.”--Jesus

“Love always creates, it never destroys. In this lie's man's only promise.” – Leo Buscaglia

“The secret of attraction is to love yourself. Attractive people judge neither themselves nor others. They are open to gestures of love. They think about love, and express their love in every action. They know that love is not a mere sentiment, but the ultimate truth at the heart of the universe.”--Deepak Chopra

“You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.”--Buddha

"The more love you give, the more love you will receive. It may not always look like that, but it is the absolute truth. You may not get it from those to whom you give it -- just know that you will, no, you must get it. Love is always returned to those who give it freely and courageously, without strings or expectations." -- Iyanla Vanzant

“I have a very strong feeling that the opposite of love is not hate - it's apathy. It's not giving a damn. “ – Leo Buscaglia

”There is no shame in finding someone else to be attractive, or good company. Even if they don't like you, there is still no shame. If you happen to be fond of someone, and they're not fond of you, it's OK.. You don't have to wait and see if they'll love you back. You can announce it.. Joy in life comes from expressing ourselves, in taking risks and jumping in. Everyone is not going to like you. But you can like who you like.” – Andrew Matthews

“Perhaps love is the process of my leading you gently back to yourself.”-- Antoine de Saint-Exupery

“A healthy self-love means we have no compulsion to justify to ourselves or others why we take vacations, why we sleep late, why we buy new shoes, why we spoil ourselves from time to time. We feel comfortable doing things which add quality and beauty to life.” – Andrew Matthews

"You are the love you seek. You are the companionship you desire. You are your own completion, your own wholeness. You are your best friend, your confidant. 'You are,' as poetess Audre Lourde wrote, 'the one that you are looking for.' You are the only one who can do what you are looking for someone else to do." -- Iyanla Vanzant

"Love is a state of Being. Your love is not outside; it is deep within you. You can never lose it, and it cannot leave you." -- Eckhart Tolle

“Love is life. And if you miss love, you miss life.”—Leo Buscaglia

A life of love can be yours if you so choose

I believe we all need to be loved. We need to be touched, to know that we exist, and that we need to express and receive expressions of love. It does matter that somebody cares about us. Somebody saw us. Someone believed in us. Yes, I do believe we all need to be loved and nurtured.

And then we can go and genuinely and unconditionally love others more.

I’d like to end this hub with these heartwarming words by Leo Rosten. Perhaps this summarizes the question, “How do we live a life of love?”

"In some way, however, small and secret, each of us is a little mad…Everyone is lonely at bottom and cries to be understood, but we can never entirely understand someone else, and each of us remains part stranger even to those who love us…Those who do not know fear are not really brave, for courage is the capacity to confront what can be imagined.

…You can understand people better if you look at them- no matter how old or impressive they may be—as if they are children. For most of us never mature; we simply grow taller…Happiness comes only when we push our brains out and hearts to the farthest reaches of which we are capable…The purpose of life is to matter – to count, to stand for something, to have it make some difference that we lived at all."

You are loved.

Just lovely, Michelle. Thanks so much for putting these together. I was glad to see a favorite that always makes me think of parents and children...“Perhaps love is the process of my leading you gently back to yourself.” I haven't been taking enough time lately for reflection, so reading these quotes was a good reminder to start putting that important time aside.

Iyanla Vanzant is a personal favorite of mine and loved both of her love quotes.  I was a faithful fan of hers for several years when she was on a tv show called "Starting Over" that aired here in America. Iyanla is a perfect example of living a life of love.

Hi countrywomen, glad to hear an update from you. love + household chores = I get the picture. Getting domestic help there can be expensive huh? Well I hope those magical moments can help a bit to lift you up when life gets a bit tough and exhausting. Hugs...

Hey M.A.D...are you looking? :-)

men are dorks from Namibia on May 23, 2009:

any one to love me...

countrywomen from Washington, USA on May 23, 2009:

I am doing OK. Marriage has its pluses but sometimes it gets too much when I have very little time for myself. Btw I wish it was as wonderful as those two magical care free weeks after the marriage and now life is back to some hard routine realities. Work, cooking, laundry, cleaning and.... can be too much (I wish I was in India and certainly miss domestic help here in US) :(

Michelle Simtoco (author) from Cebu, Philippines on May 23, 2009:

Hi countrywomen, it's nice to hear from you. How have you been? That statement is so is the most wonderful feeling. I take it you are having a wonderful married life :-) I'm so happy for you!
