Little Girl - Turn About, Turn Around

Author:

A Father's poem

Little girl, turning one

You're so sure that you can run

Pull away from daddy's hand

There you are, there you stand

Turn about, turn around

Look at you on the ground

Up we go, here's my hand

Turn it loose and try again

little-girl-a-fathers-poem

Little girl, learn to talk

Learn to crawl before you walk

Crying soft and laughing loud

Making me and mama proud

Turn around, turn about

Look at you turning out

There you go! Took a step

Did it all by yourself

little-girl-a-fathers-poem

Little girl, turning ten

Fell in love and didn't win

Said your heart would love no more

So bitterly you closed the door

Turn about, turn around

Look at you on the ground

Up we go, here's my hand

Turn it loose and try again

Little girl, behind that veil

Satin gown and bridal trail

It's such a sad, but happy day

You're mine to love, and give away

Turn around, turn about

Look at you turning out

There you go, took a step

Did it all by yourself

Turn about, turn around

Look at me

On the ground

Hi Ann , I have 5 greats but only one in Ohio , She just turned 3 but she really is very smart Somebody said talking to her is just like talking to an adult. They grow up too fast.Clara

Hi Ann, I just read your poem about your little girl,It really is nice. too bad they grow up so fast, isn't it?Besides it just makes us older very quickly .When you get into the greats you really are aging, no cure for that.

Peggy Woods from Houston, Texas on October 22, 2011:

Kids surely grow up fast! Nicely done in verse. It is wonderful that your daughter and grandchildren live near you...for both of your sakes. Enjoy!

Thank you Writer20. Well....no I don't miss her. She lives close to me and has 3 children. I suppose I'll have to start writing kiddie poems. I see you are finishing up your chapters....I'm behind on that. Will check it out.
