Legend of the Dragon Breath – part 6
Back in the tents
where the King temporary shelters,
Reports being read
by a trembling young Courier.
Despite the many who fear
of the Dragon intruder,
None more terrifying
than failing a mad Ruler.
Words haltingly uttered
about the bad news being reported,
Perspiring as he stuttered
unable to finish what he has blurted.
The King sat up livid
and the messenger all but collapse,
Even the Executioner
stood up and readied his axe.
A word from their Monarch
a menace terrifyingly real,
Mortality was so cheap then
the tent reeks of fear.
Sensing all the tension
the ignoble Bard intercede,
His harp distracted the Emperor
his song hypnotically appease.
“My Lord, my King
my most generous of Patrons,
Apologies and lamentation
of my perhaps failed instruction.
My advice was true
the plan would have succeed,
Had the Knights not bungled
in the way they sent those sheep.
Let us listen more in details
the rest of what this lad has to say,
Come now dear boy
pray speak to your Majesty without delay.
Tell us what happened after
this so called Shepherd who went into the fray,
I am sure there are clues then
so we can learn from this foray.
You mentioned that this Shepherd
herded first all his sheep,
And that he was dilly-dallying
and that he looked like a ragged heap.
Perhaps he was not so honest
and maybe stole a trinket or two,
His outfit you said were dirty
he probably deserved his due.
I am not saying without basis
knowing a bit about the beast,
The Dragon values aesthetics
and honesty and purity to say the least.
Only people like your Majesty
and perhaps a very select few,
Can survive a Dragon encounter
without being fried or being chewed.”
The King heartened at this news
his madness abate at lease,
He did suffered the humiliation
of confronting the wretched beast.
But he also hear of the subtleties
his Bard is trying to appease,
Should he put them on the chopping block
or listen more of this whimsical release?

Still pulling it off with style! Liked the mid-sentence rhyme with:
the rest of what this lad has to say,
Come now dear boy
pray speak to your Majesty without delay.

Cebutouristspot, What an ancient, dated, old-fashioned feel there is to the imagery, language and meter in your poetic tale! Hopefully there's not going to be too much passage of time before the seventh installment appears on your HubPages.
Thank you for sharing,

@Gypsy Rose Lee - That is indeed an idea :D I bet the dragon can be an excellent cook with the wisdom of the ages right on his back pocket :D

Awesome. Gets more intriguing as it continues. Perhaps the King should next give the Dragon an honorable job as chief barbeque cook at the castle. lol Can't wait to find out what happens next.
