RT Book Reviews: Jeaniene Frost

Jeaniene Frost

Jeaniene Frost is an American New York Times and USA Today bestselling romance novelist; best known for her Night Huntress series and Night Huntress World novels. Jeaniene lives in North Carolina with her husband Matthew. She is quoted saying that she is fearful of "children, airplanes, and cookbooks". Jeaniene Frost didn't start writing until she turned thirty years old.

Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress novels is best described as urban romance paranormal; with the main focus on vampires, even though we see ghouls, ghosts, demons, and half-breeds making a cameo throughout the series. Jeaniene's Night Huntress series is focused around a fiery red headed half human/half vampire named Catherine Crawford - or Cat for short - who's own personal demons sends her on a quest to become a vampire slayer.

As a vampire slayer, Cat meets a dangerous vampire who takes her under his wing and trains her properly to become a vampire slayer. I must say that, as far as vampire books go, this series is definitely in my top three favorite vampire novels and series. I began reading this series after my mother-in-law read the series and gushed about how awesome the books were. Jeaniene Frost is a great writer and storyteller.

Fans of The Night Huntress series are screaming and pleading for Jeaniene Frost to push for a theatrical adaptation of the series. One of the biggest problems Hollywood can make when adapting a book into a movie is casting. Improper casting can make a movie adaptation of a great book or novel stink up the whole movie, even if the story line is awesome. This is a short review of Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress books to date and my choosing for cast, should Jeaniene Frost and Hollywood decide to create theatrical releases of Frost's books.

Halfway to the Grave

Halfway to the Grave is Jeaniene's first novel in her Night Huntress series. Whether you are a vampire lover or a good romance story lover, Jeaniene's novel will dazzle you with its well written words and very descriptive imagery.

Half-vampire, Catherine Crawfield - or Cat-, is a vampire killer hoping to find and kill her father - the man who, solely, ruined her mother's life. On a vampire hunt one night, Catherine runs into a vampire bounty hunter named Bones who kidnaps her and holds her hostage and forces her to join him into a unlikely partnership.

Cat agrees to let Bones train on the proper way to hunt and kill vampires for exchange of Bones helping her find her father. The whole book Cat struggles with her family's protests that all vampires are evil, which in turn means that Cat is half-evil. But when Cat meets Bones and he helps her see the good side of being a vampire, Cat starts to reconsider what she had been told her whole life.

Cat and Bones track down and defeats an underground women's trafficking ring run by an evil vampire who is hell-bent on creating his fortune in this heinous way. Cat and Bones end up in a romantic relationship, much to the dismay of her mother. In the end, Cat is taken away by the government, leaving her vampire boyfriend - Bones - behind; breaking his heart.

Book Excerpt

"No matter which side of the grave we're on. I'll hunt you, chase you all around eternity, whatever it takes, but it's you and me until the stars burn out." -Cat Crawfield

Halfway to the Grave Excerpt:

'“Playing with fire, Kitten?”

His mouth grazed my cheek. His lips were cool against my skin. My head spun, my senses reeled, and my tongue crept out and licked his neck.

The shudder went all through him. Bones pressed me so close that his body ground into mine, jerking my head back with a thick handful of hair until our eyes locked. What had started out as a game was now an open challenge, as well as a direct threat.

All of this should have frightened me, but it was as if my mind were incapable of rational thought. He was a vampire, a hit man, and had almost killed me … and nothing mattered more than the feel of him.

I licked my lips and didn't pull away.

It was all the invitation he needed.'

One Foot in the Grave

I highly recommend this book for anyone that loves a great adventure and romance story. Long gone are the days when women protagonists snivel in a corner waiting while their own personal Prince Charming are off saving the world. Jeaniene Frost has made such a great sequel for her breakout novel, it just gets better and better.

The second installment in the Night Huntress series, One Foot in the Grave, has all the great qualities of its prequel - Halfway to the Grave.

Set four years after Halfway to the Grave ended, Cat is now head of a secret government sector that hunts and kills vampires. She now has a team of men under her to help her hunt and kill vampires. Bones finally traces Cat down, resulting in a heated and passionate reunion. Cat gets reunited with her father - a less than happy reunion to say the least.

Combined with all of the assassination attempts on Cat's life and a collector who seems determined to collect such a rare specimen as Cat, One Foot in the Grave promises to deliver just as much non-stop laughter, action, thrills, and adventure as its predecessor.

Yet another ringer for a great novel by Jeaniene Frost. The non-stop action, romance, comedy, and momentum of this book keeps you on your toes and anticipating more. I couldn't put this particular book down. It kept me on edge the whole time I was reading it. Such a spectacular story line and plot, a definite must read for fans of the Night Huntress series, or even just romance novel lovers alike.

At Grave's End is set around the Christmas period, but don't let that fool you. This it isn't quite the holly jolly novel as you may think. Cat and Bone's first Christmas together is full of gore, pain, loss, and suffering.

Patra - a powerful and ancient vampire - is determined to ruin the happy lives of Cat and Bones. Stalking Cat and Bones across countries, Patra resurrects an undead army to annihilate Cat, Bones, and their friends. With everything coming into full swing around Christmas time, Cat and Bones has to spend their first Christmas holiday together fighting and scraping to stay alive.

Jeaniene Frost does it again in her fourth installment to her New York Times and USA Today bestselling series - The Night Huntress. With Cat and Bones coming back on the page, Frost has definitely shown that it can get better with each new installment. I would be quite ludicrous to not recommend this installment in The Night Huntress series. Jeaniene Frost knows how to keep her readers on edge!

Cat is having nightmares that she can't seem to shake about a vampire that is following her. The vampire stalks her while she sleeps and while she is awoke. He claims that Cat is his mate and vows to get her back and make her his again.

If you have been following the series thus far, you know that Cat's mate, Bones, will not let Cat go without a fight. In another enthralling installment full of passion, memories, secrets, suspense, and a vampire bent on collecting Cat, Jeaniene Frost has written yet another book to rock the ages and vampire story readers.

First Drop of Crimson - Night Huntress World Series

First Drop of Crimson was Jeaniene Frost's first spin off from The Night Huntress series called The Night Huntress World series. First Drop of Crimson follows one of Bones' best friends, Spade, and Cat's best friend, Denise. This novel is a definite must read as well. If you love The Night Huntress series, you'll love this first installment in Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress World series.

Denise is visited by a dark being that puts a mark on her, forcing her to help him find her ancestor that swindled him out of a deal they had made decades before. Left with no choice, Denise helps the dark being find her ancestor, with the help of Spade - Bones' best friend.

Spade helps track down Denise's ancestor and passion ensues between the duo. The tension of attraction is heavy until the band finally snaps and Spade and Denise's passion is let out full force.

The second installment in Jeaniene Frost's The Night Huntress World series - the spin-off of The Night Huntress series - is Eternal Kiss of Darkness. All I can say is that I seriously hope you've been reading the books, have read the books, or are planning on reading these books because, quite frankly, they are definitely awesome.

The best thing about them is that even if you start in the middle of the series, you won't be totally lost because Frost definitely makes sure her readers know exactly what's going on. Each book in the Night Huntress series and the Night Huntress World series is able to be read as a stand alone book, but if you read one, I guarantee you'll want to read more until you can't get enough of them. My husband has even read them and loved them, now that's saying something, considering this is a "romance novel".

Kira is a private detective in Chicago who - on her way home - hears painful sounding moans and goes to investigate. Mencheres - Bones' ancient "vampire grandfather" - has lost all of his powers to tell the future. With a war ensuing, Mencheres can not rely on his powers to win this battle.

This Side of the Grave Cover

This Side of the Grave

This Side of the Grave is Jeaniene Frost's fifth novel in her bestselling Night Huntress series. It debuted at #2 on the New York Times, #16 on the USA Today, #1 on the Barnes & Noble Mass Market, #1 on the Publisher's Weekly, & #1 on the Border's Romance Bestseller lists. If this long list of accomplished ranks means anything to you, as a reader, you know that its definitely something to boast about.

Filled with romance, suspense, new friends, comedy relief, and magic, This Side of the Grave is a great read for any adult - male or female. The Night Huntress series aren't sappy romance novels filled with gooey romance plot lines and a heroine that can't defend herself. My husband and I were both reading the series at the same time and fought constantly when we ended up on the same book, but only had one copy. It's a series you can share with your friends and family, just remember that this is a romance series, so graphic erotic scenes are common.

Dhampir, Cat Crawfield, with her vampire husband, Bones, are back in action when numerous vampires goes missing. A war between vampires and ghouls threaten to end the short peaceful period that Bones and Cat had hoped would stay. With Cat's unexpected abilities and a new "alliance" with the queen of New Orleans herself, Cat and Bones take on the newest fight for their lives in this next installment of the Night Huntress series.

One Grave at a Time

One Grave at a Time... well as much as I have gushed about the series, you'd think I wouldn't have any more gushing left in me, but I'd like to prove you wrong. Jeaniene Frost steadily has new plot lines for each book that makes this series so refreshing with each new novel Frost writes. Such a great series to read whether you enjoy romance, suspense, action, or paranormal novels.

Fabian - Cat & Bones' ghost pet of sorts - introduces them to a ghost named Elisabeth who is on a quest for vengeance. Heinrich Kramer is a homicidal ghost who was a zealous witch hunter when he was alive. Every Halloween Kramer becomes corporeal, kidnapping and burning three new female victims. Determined to stop Kramer, Elisabeth enlists Cat and Bones to help her on her quest to kill Kramer. But how do you kill a ghost when its already dead?
