Some of my adored books.

Some of my adored books.

1. Read about the things you are interested in:

  • Start with what you want to know about and take interest in. This interest will be a motivating force to read more books.
  • Reading is a habit that no one is compelling you to adopt so if you start with boring topics, you won't have an urge to read more.
  • Reading what interests you, helps to remember it easily and for a long time.

“Once you have read a book you care about, some part of it is always with you.”

— Louis L’Amour

2. Don't read as an obligation:

  • In order to devour reading and keep it long-lasting, take it as an entertainment not a responsibility.
  • When you do something as an obligation it becomes mundane after a while and you stop doing it.

3. It's not compulsory to finish a book:

  • Read, not to boast about how many books you have read. Rather, to open your mind and enlighten yourself with knowledge.
  • So, it doesn't matter if you get bored with a book, just leave it. Grasp what you have read and pick a new book.

4. Just read, don't worry about forgetting it:

  • You can't love something if you are scared to lose it
  • Just read books, keep what you can and don't fret over what you've forgotten.
  • If you want to get the maximum out of a book then take notes or read it more than once.

“Until I feared I would lose it, I never loved to read. One does not love breathing.”

— Harper Lee

5. Read each genre differently:

  • Non-fiction requires focus and detailed reading.
  • Fiction can simply be skimmed through.
  • Philosophical writing demands a deep insight.

Conclusion:

Don't wait. Muster up some strength, pick up a book and read it. If you like it, read it and if you don't then grab a new one. Just do it.
