What is a side hustle?
A side hustle is a way to make yourself some money outside of what you usually do for a living. Something that seems to be needed more and more with the lack of job security these days. With business failures at what seems to be an all time high resulting in redundancy and lay offs it is sensible to have a back up plan.
Evidence suggests that as a result of recent world issues, economic recovery could be slow to get back to pre pandemic levels and further downturns could be witnessed. I’m talking about world recession. This is the reason why we all need to have a back up plan in 2021 and beyond.
Help is on the way
As it says as part of the title of my book, help is on the way. The question will be though, will you accept the help that is being offered?
Once you make the decision to use the help get started and don’t stop is my advice. If you stop you might never know if you would achieve big things. I’ve done this myself but have now decided that failure is no longer an option. I am doing this until I achieve success. The help was sent and I have accepted it and I am running with it. You should do the same.
Stop kidding yourself
We are all guilty of this and make excuses for why we don’t do the things we know we need to. Putting things off just doesn’t work if you want to be successful in your chosen area.
Why choose self-publishing?
For me it was a decision I had to make. I had written on other sites before and felt it was a natural progression to have a go at writing a book. To date I have written 2 books and published them both on Amazon Kindle direct publishing.
Both books are making sales and I have learned a lot in the process. Self publishing is accessible to everyone and it is great because unlike traditional publishing methods you don't need to buy hundreds of copies of your book to sell. No stocking in bulk because your E-books are digital products and are distributed online.
If you decide you can also publish your book as a paperback and have Amazon print them on demand when someone orders a paperback version. I have just published two books for print which, if successful will be the source of another article. It is a new area of publishing I haven't yet tried so watch this space.
It's up to you
What you charge for your books is your decision depending on how much you think people will realistically pay for a book from a new author. You will receive around 70% royalty share for your books depending on the price you put on them.
When publishing traditional paperbacks it will tell you when you upload your book how much it will cost to produce the book. You can then factor this into the price of your book.
It’s a good idea to have a go with an E-book for your first attempt if you ask me. If you have a good idea for a book then go for it.
Most of you who are reading this will probably have some experience in writing on a platform such as HubPages I would hazard a guess, so using the talents you have shouldn’t be that difficult for you to turn your ideas into an E-book and then ultimately an Audio book.
Evidence points to the fact that the Audio book niche is right at the beginning and is growing right now. It makes sense to follow the data and have a go.
So you’ve written and published your E-book, now what? It’s time to take it to the next level and have your book turned into an Audio book.
This is what I did and my audio version of the E-book is outselling it. As I write this I can tell you that I have sold 10 books today alone. It is well worth the effort you have to put into the writing of the book when results start to come. 11 sales in 7 days is far better than I would have expected.

Step by step guide to publishing an Audio book.

- Approve and wait for ACX to check and put on Amazon for sale
It's free !
I know it's amazing that anyone can become an author of books and audio with Amazon and Audible. For that reason I think it is a great place to start if you want an online business but don't know where to start.
As soon as you get that first sale you have the beginnings of an online business.
Start and keep going
The important thing with publishing online is that once you start and have a little success you must keep going. Even on this platform it is important to keep producing content regularly if you want to improve and become good at what you do. I started here 10 years ago and started to have some success and one day just stopped. This is one of my biggest regrets now because things could have been so much different had I have kept producing content.
All that said I am now happy that I decided to come back to writing and take things to the next stage in terms of book and audio publishing. As with the day job a lot of effort is required to get your publishing career going. Momentum is the key.
My advice is to keep on keeping on and one way or another sales will come particularly if you write about things you are passionate about.
Once you start don't stop
Keep producing content

YouTube the go to place for me
YouTube is the place to go I find. There is a mine field of content uploaded to YouTube each day. I use it for searches more than I do on Google. I learn better by watching and listening so if you are looking for training you can't find a better place and the best thing is it's totally free.
I am watching videos everyday at the moment to quickly learn as much as I can about publishing on Amazon KDP and ACX. It amazes me how in just a couple of short years a number of people have carved out a very profitable niche for themselves and have started to make a lot of money in the process.
Choose your niche and get focused
I was told this and you know what they were right. Decide where you fit in and what you can write a lot about and start today. When you start it will be the worst you will ever be. The more you do it the better you will get.
Choose what type of content you will produce and stick with it. I decided that I would write articles to help people. How to do things. If you look at my content on this platform you will see mainly tutorials on how to fix things in the home or articles that will help with car troubles. Once I got serious I knew I wasn't going to change what I write about.
Content production is up to you so you have a choice to write or maybe produce videos yourself to help your audience. Either way once you start all you need to do is never stop. It's that simple.
I hope you have found this article of use as that is always my aim. You will find that writing is very satisfying and rewarding. If you are considering a side hustle in publishing then I would suggest not thinking about it too long and just get started. Learning as you go is fun.
