How to Grow on Hubpages: Do This If You Want to Make $1k or More on Hubpages

Born in London, I currently live and work in Accra, Ghana. I am a writer and creative entrepreneur.

Hubpages is a large online community of passionate content creators who share in-depth knowledge and perspectives about the things they love through detailed, well-crafted articles.

Topics range from cooking and plant care tips to movie reviews and political commentary,

HubPages is also a great place to connect with other like-minded people who share your interests. By commenting on articles and joining the forums, you can build relationships with other users and learn more about the things you love.

I joined Hubpages 12 years ago, I’ve gone from earning a few cents per month to earning $600, and on my most profitable months, I’ve earned $1500 to $2000.

I’m not going to lie and say that it’s easy to make money on Hubpages because it’s not. You need to build detailed, high-quality hubs to get featured. If you don’t get featured, your articles won’t rank highly.

The aim is to rank your articles to increase the amount you earn per thousand views.

One good thing about Hubpages is that they don’t offer a set rate per thousand views. This means that you can earn as much $300 or more per thousand views. You can also earn much less, nothing is set in stone.

Here's how to make money on Hubpages as a beginner

Focus on a specific target audience

Before you start writing, think about your target audience. You don’t necessarily have to niche down with Hubpages but it helps if you understand your target audience well. For example, if you want to focus on building content for millenials then, you would need to think about the topics that millennials would be interested in reading.

If you want to focus on moms with toddlers then, consider all the things that moms with toddlers want to know then, build a list of content ideas that fit that specific audience.

Once you know your target audience and you’ve done your research, you can start to list content ideas by conducting keyword research.

First, how to identify the type of content that your target audience want to consume:

The first step to understanding what type of content your target audience wants is to consider what problem they are trying to solve.

Once you know this, you can develop content that provides a solution. For example, if your target audience is small businesses, they may be looking for ways to save money or increase efficiency.

Therefore, your content should focus on providing tips, tricks, and advice on these topics. However, it’s also important to keep in mind that your target audience may have different needs at different times.

For this reason, it’s important to periodically check in with your audience to see what new problems they are facing and what content they are interested in consuming. By taking the time to understand the needs of your target audience, you can ensure that your content is always relevant and engaging.

Check-in on your target audience by doing the following:

  • Join Facebook groups
  • Use Quora and observe the questions that people ask within your target group. You can check this by joining Quora spaces and reading through the questions.
  • Type these questions into Google and read through the blogs that come up on the first two pages. You can gain some insight into the type of content your target audience prefers by reading through the articles you find and paying attention to the comments.
  • Ask them. If your target audience is small business owners, take the time to ask small business owners in your local area about the problems they face in their businesses. You can take the time time to interview 50 small business owners and build a picture of the problems they face.

Keyword research

Now, it’s time to conduct keyword research. I use various tools but when I want to carry out basic keyword research, I use Zutrix.

Here’s an example of a keyword research session:

Here, we are focusing on problems that new moms face. One issue that new moms face is a skin condition called cradle cap.

For this session, I typed “cradle cap” into the search bar. Out of all the results that came up, I decided to pick “how to prevent cradle cap” because it has a monthly search volume of 5400 and the keyword competition score is 12, which is low. I like to find keywords that have a competition score or keyword difficulty score of 0–20.

We are searching for low-competition keywords because we don’t want to compete with the big media brands online. We want to focus on topics that have less competition because it makes our job easier.

Looking at these keywords, “cradle cap causes” is also good because it has a keyword difficulty score of six and a monthly search volume of 3600 which is decent.

One of the reasons why we want to focus on search engine-friendly content on Hubpages is that they pay you for external views as well as internal views. Therefore, if you want to make money, it’s vital that you build search engine-friendly content to pull traffic from Google and other search engines.

Build content for your Hubpages Audience

There is a hidden gem within Hubpages and that’s the Hubpages forum section. Here, writers ask burning questions. Find the questions in your specific niche and create content that answers these questions. Link your answer in the comments.

Comment and engage with other writers

This one is a no-brainer! If you really want to build a solid income on Hubpages, you need to engage with the community.

Hubpages is a community-driven platform and most hubbers have been on the platform for many years. They want to read and engage with content therefore if you connect with other writers, you will increase your income over time.

This is my process:

✅I leave ten comments a day on articles that I like to read

✅I leave fan mail on other writers’ accounts (on Hubpages, you can leave fan comments on other writers’ pages which is a great way to build your following.

✅Focus on leaving meaningful comments instead of comments like “great article” or “good job.”

If you really want to increase your income on Hubpages, you need to create detailed, high-quality content. Your articles need to be at least 700 words long and include plenty of images, videos, and stats if you can.

If you see an article that’s 800 words long, make your article 1500 words long. Add more attractive images, videos, and stats to your piece to make sure that your article stands out above the rest of the content on the site for that particular topic.

Find gold in the comments

I say this all the time. There are golden nuggets in the comments! Read through the comments underneath articles within your niche, often you’ll find questions from the readers. Follow the readers that comment on these articles and create articles that answer their questions.

Build a YouTube Channel

I know, it might seem like too much hassle however, to maximize your content and increase your chances of earning top dollar, build a YouTube channel to match your content.

Embed your videos into your articles and link your article in the description section of your videos.

A YouTube channel will help with Search Engine Optimization and it will also help you build more awareness for your written content.

Use Niche Facebook Groups

I’m not a massive fan of Facebook groups that are designed to share blog content however, I do like groups where your target audience hangs out, for example, a new moms group or parenting groups. You’ll find thousands of moms in these groups therefore if you write content for new moms or for parents in general, you can engage in the conversation and share your content here.

❌Note: Don’t spam the groups, build genuine connections with other members of the group.

Create Buying Guides

Hubpages allows you to earn money through Amazon Associates. You don’t need your own Amazon Associates account, all you need to do is sign up and agree to earn money with Amazon Associates through Hubpages. To increase your earnings, you can write buying guides like this one:
