How to Find Love: Quotes by Famous People on Love

Inspirational essays and articles, with a touch of humor, are favorite topics for Ms. Giordano, a writer and public speaker.

Everyone Wants to Find, and Can Find, Love.

Everyone wants to find love.

Everyone wants to find love.

Wise Words on Love

From the beginning of time, wise people have spoken about how to find love, how to be loved and how to give love.

Everything that philosophers, authors, poets, scientists, and successful people from all walks of life have said about love can be summed up by asking and answering these seven questions.

Perhaps these quotes will inspire you to write a love letter for Valentine's Day or you can use one of these quotes to create your own Valentine's Day card.

Question 1: What is Love?

Love is essentially the emotion of attachment. It is a feeling of strong affection.

There are many types of love and each type is different from the others in subtle ways.

There is erotic love—the love between lovers. The love we are talking about when we say we are “in love.”

There is the love we have for our family—we love our spouses or life partners, we love our children, siblings, parents, and extended families.

There is the love we have for our friends, communities, and country.

I’m going to limit this discussion of love to the love between people. Therefore, I shall not consider the love of God, the love of pets, or the love of things--The love we have for things that give us pleasure. (I love a good book, I love ice cream. I love writing. I love the beach.)

The Bible -- I Corinthians 13:4-8

Love is patient, love is kind, love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way, it is not irritable or resentful, it does not rejoice in wrong doing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes in all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.

Question 2: Why is Love Important?

Love defines us. We are who we love. Love opens us up to experience our selves, other people, and our world more fully.

Love is essential to life, and if not essential to life itself, it is essential to a happy life, a life well-lived. It is what gives life meaning.

I am a public speaker and when I give my speech on the topic of love, I sometimes hide hand-written love-letters around the room. Each letter is for whomever finds it. The letters say “I love you because… “. It just shows how much we want to hear the words “I love you.”

These quotes on love could be the inspiration for a love letter or be used in you personalized Valentine's Day Card. Store bought cars are nice, but nothing says love like taking the time to create your own card. Buy a pack of blank cards with matching envelopes at Office Depot or Staples. They are designed for use in your computer. Surprise your Valentine with a unique, very personal, card.
