Hubpages is a platform that allows both professional and amateur writers to create content about their passions and get paid.

In this article, I am going to take an in-depth look at the elements that go into crafting a stellar article on Hubpages.

Expertise and Passion for Topic

Research has proven that authors who are passionate and have expertise in their fields tend to create the most valuable content. It is very easy to craft excellent articles on topics you are passionate about and have expertise in.

When I write articles on Hubpages or for my clients I usually enjoy the process and it does not feel like work to me. I have been writing for a while now and I enjoy writing so much.

Valuable Content

When you craft an article you should strive to create value for your readers. You can write about topics that you are passionate about but ensure that the content is helpful to the readers. The content should help readers to solve problems or gain insights and knowledge.

Examples of valuable content include; tutorials, recipes, in-depth research, historical accounts, biographical information, product reviews, and book reviews.

Ever Green Content

While you can just write about any topic you are inclined to, evergreen content is your best bet for long-term traffic. Evergreen content can include in-depth research about a certain topic, how-to guides, movie or book reviews, recipes, etc.

You should ensure that you update your content after some time to add new facts or delete obsolete information. Your content needs to remain fresh and relevant.

Long Form Content

Hubpages requires authors to write content that is between 600-1250 words. There are two reasons that long-form content is preferred. One, long-form content allows the author to cover the subject matter thoroughly. Articles that are longer provide more value to the reader.

Two, long-form content enables Google to place advertisements strategically on the content. Advertisements are our primary source of income as hubbers.

Search Engine Optimized Content

Search Engine Optimization can be defined as the process of ameliorating the quantity and quality of traffic to a website or a blog from search engines. Search Engine Optimization aims to increase organic, unpaid traffic.

Search Engine Optimized content is critical for driving high-quality organic traffic to your articles. Traffic is the bread and butter for most hubbers.

Search Engine Optimized content is content that is rich in keywords, well-formatted, plagiarism-free, and grammatically correct.

Keywords enable the search engines to rank articles well on search engine result pages. You should ensure that your keyword usage is optimal. However, you should avoid keyword stuffing.

Error-free content

Errors make articles harder to read and understand. Errors in articles might also have some unintended consequences on the readers. For example, when one is reading tutorials, omitting a certain step or providing the wrong information might have dire consequences for the reader.

You can avoid errors by conducting in depth research and carefully analyzing all the available and relevant information on the topic.

Author’s Voice

The voice of the author needs to be heard by the reader. The author should ensure that they have created a connection with the reader. The reader will want to read more from the author if they feel that the author is sincere and genuine. Articles that are compelling to read often feature a story or a personal experience from the author.

Readers love knowing that they can relate to the author. Articles that are too technical or too formal tend to be avoided by most readers. You should aim for a more conversational tone.

Factual Content

The content should provide elaborate, insightful analyses instead of "common sense" and anecdotes. It should reference and link back to trustworthy sources which lend credibility, and authority.

The title should be around eight to ten words. It should be descriptive of the article and should also match common search parameters. You should avoid using long titles or titles that may mislead the reader. An example of a good title: ‘How to make apple pie at home’

Grammar and Syntax

Many new authors are prone to make numerous mistakes while crafting their articles. Grammatical mistakes are a turn-off for most readers. These mistakes show that the author is negligent and does not pay attention while writing.

There are numerous software to correct grammar and syntax errors. Grammarly is a great option for beginners and veterans alike. I like using Grammarly because it has an easy to use and clean interface.

The premium version offers more features compared to the free version. It is a worthwhile investment for any serious writer.

Hubpages also provides a tool for spell checking. In the Text Capsule menu bar, there is a blue checkmark with ABC on top of it. Click that button and misspelled words will be highlighted.

You should ensure that sentences and paragraphs are short. Shorter sentences and paragraphs are easier to read. Readers have a very short attention span and long sentences or paragraphs can be intimidating.

Complex vocabulary is a turn-off for most readers. You should strive to use easy words to convey your message. Many authors are tempted to use complex vocabulary. They often think that complex words illustrate their superiority or intellect.

Hubpages provides authors with a variety of capsules to make their content more appealing to the readers. These capsules include:

  • Text capsules aid in breaking down huge chunks of text to make reading easier.
  • Photo capsules to add pictures and visual examples of the subject or topic.
  • Video capsules to provide footage with instructions, results, or additional information.
  • Callout capsules to add quotes from people.
  • Poll quiz capsules to provide interactive questions for the readers
  • Map capsules to provide location information or historical background
  • Ratings capsules to rate places, services or products.

Your article should have a clear, concise and compelling summary. The summary recapitulates the topic and captures the most critical information. Many authors tend to neglect creating a summary. The summary has several functions:

  • It aids the reader to synthesize the article.
  • It provides the reader with a call to action.
  • It provides the author a means to end the article.

Crafting a stellar article on Hubpages requires careful planning and thought. Articles should provide value to the reader. They should be evergreen and in long-form format to increase traffic and longevity. They should also be original, plagiarism-free, and error-free. A stellar article has the following characteristics:

  • It is well written and error-free.
  • It is credible and factual.
  • It is search engine optimized
  • It uses a variety of capsules such as video, poll, photo, map, and callout
  • It uses high-quality, original, or well-attributed photos.
  • It is well-formatted using headers, numbers, and bullets.
  • It has a conversational tone.

This content is accurate and true to the best of the author’s knowledge and is not meant to substitute for formal and individualized advice from a qualified professional.
