How much time do we invest in using Facebook, Instagram, or other social media apps? There is no clear distinction that what is the average time interval that people engage themselves in using social media, but we know that the average time that youth spend on social media is a minimum of 2 hours or a maximum of 9 hours per day. And it is one of the main reasons that why people do not love to spend hours reading a book. Reading a text is one of the huge miracles of this world because when we read a text, we go into an imaginative world and grasp the idea of the writer, either he is alive or been to this world 200 year ago. Watching a video, using social media app, or reading a book; depends on the cognitive capacity of the brain. Generally, when we watch a video on social media, we can recall the visual scenes of that video after a week or even a month, and the reason is that sometimes we keep that video in short term memory or try to keep it in a long term if we are more obsessed with that video but when we read a book, which is a collection of ideas and practices, then we keep them in a long term memory but we cannot recall every anecdote but unconsciously our mind has already grasped the idea and even after one year or throughout the life, we use the knowledge of that specific book’s text in the form of experience and diligent ideas. And that is how the power of the book is far stronger than the knowledge that is achieved with a visual medium. But how to take an initial step to read a book and then keep on reading different books over time. Following are the steps to read a book effectively:
Book according to your taste:
One of the most intriguing problems is that when a beginner tries to start reading a book, he/she is not sure which book to read. And even though when he/she start reading a book which is against his/her taste, they stop reading at the initial stage. To make a habit of reading a book, a reader should emphasize that what genre of the book does he/she wants to read and suits his/her taste. For example, some people like to read history books, some like to read scientific researched-based books, some like to read fictional novel books, and so on. So, the first step is to ensure that what kind of books suit his/her aptitude.
Read, read, and read:
Many people when reading five or six books; stop their reading habit. And there may be various reasons like they think that they are not experiencing a change in themselves in a context of fluency and or absence of complex ideas, or maybe they are not experiencing true knowledge of the books they read. In another way, the reader might abandon reading books because he/she thinks that he/she is not enough competent to speak to other people on research topics. But the solution to restrain from scapegoating is to read, read and read and be nonchalant of the consequence of situations to come. Reading selflessly is the best way to be a great reader.
Two hours daily for book reading:
One of the crucial problems with beginners is that they cannot manage the time schedule for reading a book. They lack consistency in reading a book. Due to mismanagement of time, the beginner may invest four hours for reading in one day and the other day he skips reading and maybe the day after tomorrow he read less than one hour. So, what I would like to suggest is that a reader should allocate a specific time of two hours for reading a book. And the daily two hours should be free of any kind of other activity. These two hours for reading a book are just a paradigm of smooth reading but maybe a reader could devote more than two hours on daily basis. Setting up two hours strategy will surely increase the quality and quantity of book reading and comprehension in a reader.
Read 1st three pages loudly:
Reading 1st three pages loudly, is one of the best tactics to increase book reading stamina. There are also other benefits of reading aloud. Firstly, it will boost up the reader’s energy to continue reading, secondly, it will increase the reader’s confidence to punctuate rightly in speaking, thirdly it would make a good rhythm in reading a book.
Writing reviews on daily basis:
Writing reviews for a book or an article is too beneficial for good cognition and mental practice. It also helps in establishing critical thinking in a reader. Writing a review for a text that is being read; would greatly help to memorize the main theme of the text. Besides improving cognitive skills, writing a review increases the quality of writing for a reader. It would also help the reader to be able to write articles and books in the future.
The above rules and procedures would greatly assist the reader to be more conscious and persistent in reading a book and would open the doors of knowledge and insightful ideas
