Honor - 42nd Good Word in the "Good Words Project."

Shyron is a retired Customer Service Rep. for Verizon. Colleges attended: Triton, Melrose Park, Illinois and Elgin, in Elgin, Illinois.

Honor - 42nd Good Word

42nd word from the "Light to Love/The Good Words Project" created by Jo Goldsmith. She gave the HubPages authors this project to bring out the best in our writing abilities.

This is Jo's calling. To bring appreciation to her fellow authors and encourage us to be the best writers we can be.

Honor = Integrity

What does Honor Mean

Honor: Integrity, Decency, Righteousness, Morality, Uprightness, Scrupulousness

Integrity: Honesty , Truth, Veracity, Reliability, Uprightness

42nd Good Word - Honor

This word "Honor" means a lot to me. This is the 42nd word in the Good Words Project, from Jo Goldsmith who has the calling to help her fellow human beings/writers/ readers to live by these good words as we learn the true meaning of each one.

I believe this is what words are meant to do.

© by Shyron Shenko

Honor is Decency

To treat each one we meet with affability

Can you imagine the possibility

if we treat everyone with Decency?

Honor is Honesty

Honesty is truth

Righteousness and morality

All that we have been taught to be.

Honor is Integrity

Taught in subtle ways

From infancy

That which we should live by instinctively

Honor is Morality

To live our lives with ethics

And share the good words

In our Commonality

Steadfast Loyal and True

I thought of the Honor and as I was writing this 2/10/15 it was announced today the Kayla Mueller had been murdered, and it was at that moment I thought how she had not only honored her family, but all Americans and all the people of Syria whose lives she touched. This is the best example of honor I could find.

Honor – The Heart of Steel Compassion

© by Shyron Shenko

Kayla's life

In her short life Kayla Mueller

Set her heart of steel compassion

On caring and helping

Those who had less than she

With a heart of steel compassion

And integrity as her guide

She could not save the world

God know she really tried

Kayla gave her heart of steel compassion

For folks who had lost it all

It seems she was the only one

Who answered their woeful call

You can hear the rustle of angel’s wings

And the little ones know

They now have a guardian

When Kayla Mueller sings

Kayla, cared for those who had no hope

And handed them her heart

Soft as a marshmallow in the fire

But strong as steel when time were dire

She honored all Americans

With her heart of steel compassion

Kayla's story

Seems the Republicans have no integrity, and some of the Democrats are no better. Everywhere one looks everything is falling apart. Hope 'they' get a handle on it soon.

Posting this to AH.

Blessings, dear friend. Hope all is well with you and yours . . .

C E Clark from North Texas on June 30, 2021:

Mr. Trump doesn't seem to have obtained any more integrity since he left office. His company and his CFO were indicted tonight and for what reasons should be on tomorrow's news.

Trump supporters are saying we should be prepared for a civil war if he isn't reinstated into the presidency by mid August. That's how much they know and value the Constitution.

So much for the rain we were threatened with, to last 9 days straight. Figured it wouldn't happen, but it sure is hot. But it's been hotter. Seem to recall you like the heat, so maybe this weather is suiting you . . .

Posting this to AH.

Hope all is well with you, dear friend. Blessings to you and yours.

C E Clark from North Texas on December 18, 2020:

Seems like the more willful ignorance that enters the world, the less integrity and honor. While the presidency may increase in integrity over the next few years, for sure the Senate will not if McConnell remains in charge. Not letting the Democrats off either. The Corporate Democrats are enablers at the very least. Some of them need to go.

Hope all is well, and that you and yours have a happy Christmas. Blessings, dear friend . . .

C E Clark from North Texas on August 15, 2020:

Integrity is something the Republicans do not have, and that goes a thousand times for Trump, Pence, McConnell, and several others in office.

Posting this to AH & FB.

Hope you are well. Blessings, dear friend. Stay safe.

C E Clark from North Texas on February 27, 2020:

Having no integrity or honor is the latest fad these last few years. Trump has set the tone. Since he has neither integrity or honor his fawning supporters want to be just like him and have thrown any integrity or honor they may have had to the wind also. Trump seems to have brought all of the worms out of the woodwork and they now seem confident after Trump's example to display the ugly attributes of racism, misogyny, and bigotry of every stripe for all to see.

Posting this on FB & AH.

Blessings dear friend, be, and stay, well.

C E Clark from North Texas on November 12, 2019:

Every time I thinkTrump has hit bottom when it comes to integrity he proves me wrong. For him, there is no bottom. He has never had any integrity to begin with, so there will never be a depth too low for him to stoop down to.

Our president exhibits no honor, and as a result, since he represents our country, it too, has lost the honor it had built up over many decades. I wonder if it can ever be rebuilt . . .

Posting this to FB & AH.

Hope all is well with you dear friend. Blessings . . .

C E Clark from North Texas on May 01, 2019:

Who could have known that honor (and integrity) could go even lower than it was this time a year ago? Indeed, there is no integrity or honor in the White House at this time and most other countries are not losing confidence and respect in and for the U.S., but have in fact Lost it. I doubt these things can be regained in my lifetime even if the disgusting excuse for humanity were removed from the oval office yesterday.

Hope you are well. Blessings dear friend . . .

C E Clark from North Texas on June 05, 2018:

Is there such a thing as honor anymore? The noose seems to be tightening of late, but can it ever get tight enough to snare a snake and get rid of it?

Hope you're in a cool place. Take care dear friend . . .

Shyron E Shenko (author) from Texas on March 08, 2017:

Au fait, thank you for the comment. Our so-called president trump is so totally devoid of all honor and decency, he thinks nothing of trying to bring people down to his level. I agree that trump supporters are lacking in honor and integrity, which hurts me to say that because some of my closest family and friends voted for him, but lets not forget that Hillary got the most votes, millions more.

You always said it is easier to reason with a dog and my little puppy is beginning to know right from wrong and he is really smart.

Blessings and hugs my dear friend

C E Clark from North Texas on March 06, 2017:

Does our new president have any honor? Being wiretapped by the FBI with a court order to do so, and that having nothing to do with Obama. Indeed, Obama knew nothing about it. All because Trump & Co. are involved in some shenanigans that may get Trump out of his office before it's over -- and his flunkies in jail. He certainly doesn't seem to know how things work or he would have kept his mouth shut -- not an easy feat for Trump.

No, I think Trump has no honor, no integrity. Given that some people voted for him anyway, and his lack of these virtues was already obvious at that time, one can only conclude that his supporters are likewise -- without so much as a sliver of integrity.

Yes, I know my words are too strong for some people, but aren't they the same ones who complain about political correctness? Let's just say I set political correctness aside out of consideration for them . . . ;)

Hope all is well with you. Blessings . . .

Shyron E Shenko (author) from Texas on May 16, 2016:

I am glad your computer is fixed. We are doing okay and hope that all is well with you.

Blessings and Hugs dear friend

Nadine, thank you for reading and commenting. Yes having integrity is a quality of the soul, and Kayla was born with that quality, and reinforced by her wonderful parents.

Blessings and hugs dear friend.

Nadine May from Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa on May 11, 2016:

What an moving post especially about the sad story of the young girl Kayla that was murdered. I agree that having Integrity must be an instinctive soul quality at all times.

C E Clark from North Texas on May 06, 2016:

An exceptional poem. If everyone did the right thing even when no one was looking, the world would be a better place. Of course there's never a time when no one's looking, it's just that a lot of people who say they believe really don't . . . God is all seeing. Sharing this again.

Got my computer fixed. Just amazing! Hope you and John are both well. Take care dear friend . . . blessings always.

Shyron E Shenko (author) from Texas on December 12, 2015:

Au fait, thank you for the comment. I too think that people should do what is right and honorable no matter what.

We hope all is well with you also, safe and dry.

Blessings and hugs.

Shyron E Shenko (author) from Texas on December 12, 2015:

Thank you Au fait for the comment. Sorry you are having trouble sharing this.

I hope the weather is good for you.

Blessings and Hugs

C E Clark from North Texas on December 10, 2015:

It wouldn't go into the feed a few minutes ago, so I thought I'd try a 5th time. Yes, 5th.

C E Clark from North Texas on December 10, 2015:

I think it's important to do the right thing no matter what. I think it's harder when people are looking because it may require standing up to 'friends' who aren't so honorable. Standing up to strangers is one thing, but standing up to relatives and friends can cause problems with some people. An excellent and well expressed poem! Sharing as usual.

Hope you and John are able to enjoy our springy weather. Winter will be back in a couple of days. Hope all is well with you. Blessings and hugs . . .

Shyron E Shenko (author) from Texas on August 24, 2015:

Au fait, thank you so much for the comments.

I have not heard the ugly things being said about President Carter, but I know that these people who speak ill of anyone have no integrity or honor.

Hope all is well with you also.

Blessings and hugs.

C E Clark from North Texas on August 21, 2015:

An excellent poem that I will share again.

Speaking of integrity and honor, can you believe the ugly things some Republicans are saying about former President Carter's misfortune? He's done so much good in the world.

Hope all is going well there. Take care . . .

Shyron E Shenko (author) from Texas on August 18, 2015:

Au fait, thank you for everything you do and for your comments, votes up and with blessings and hugs right back to you my dear friend.

The grass isn't growing it is dying and that is how hubby caught the tractor on fire. He was not hurt and we got the fire put out, with minimal damage.

Again Blessings and Hugs.

Kiss and Tales, thank you for your visit, I do appreciate you. I absolutely agree with you.

How one lives up to our integrity is up to each of us.

Kiss andTales on August 11, 2015:

The truth is integrity is based on certain subjects and principles, Most important of any integrity based on our relationship with the Heavenly Father, integrity to speak the truth even though it is not popular to do so, integrity to do the right thing when it is easy and fun to do the wrong thing ,integrity to keep your vows when you volunteer to make them, like marriage, buisness , and most important a vow to your God.

integrity is very important but how you live up to is in your own power.

C E Clark from North Texas on August 10, 2015:

As I was perusing your profile page this poem jumped out at me, so today I am going to share it again in case someone may have missed it. As usual you have chosen your words well, and there is an important message here that cannot harm anyone to hear it (read it) again. The song you chose is one of my favorites, and I have a lot of favorites if it comes down to it, but I always enjoy hearing Bridge Over Trouble Water by Simon and Garfunkel. Voted up also.

Hope you are staying in. I don't know how grass (or anything else) could grow in this heat. Blessings to you and John. Take care in this awful heat.

Hi Dear Shyron,

I missed this wonderful one here somehow! So glad I found it now. You write beautifully on the Good Word of "Honor" ... Yes, Kayla was an amazing, honorable woman.

Dear Ruby, thank you for the compliment and comment. I truly believe that Kayla is the guardian angel for the children that she cared for. I hate war too, it brings nothing but anguish to the innocent and vulnerable.

I hope all is well with you dear friend.

John, thank you for the compliment, comment and thumbs up.

Yes it is sad to learn of Kayla’s death… ISIS kill in the name of God when they don’t believe in God. They are cowards. I am sad that such a caring, giving person would die at the hands of such garbage.

Blessings and hugs dear friend

C E Clark from North Texas on February 13, 2015:

A wonderful tribute to Kayla. Excellent words we should all live by, but I fear that word honor has become a bit old fashioned to many people. Thankfully there are still a few who value that word and what it means . . .

Voted up and BAUI. Posted to Awesome HubPages and shared.

Shyron, this is beautiful. Your poetry to honor Kayla touched my heart. I loved that she would be an angel watching over the children. War takes the young. I hate it...

Such a beautiful hub for the Good word "Honor" Shyron. So sad to see the news of Kayla Mueller's is a travesty and ISIS needs to be stopped, and soon. Voted up.
