Who doesn't know Harry Potter? I am assuming majority of the readers do know Harry Potter but not everyone has read the books. Maybe because of time constraints or the price of the book being too expensive. So, in this article I will be stating the top 14 scenes that they didn't include in the movie. But wait, maybe some of you might be confused regarding the title. Isn't it Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone or Harry Potter and the Philosopher's stone?
Sorcerer or Philosopher?
Originally, J.K Rowling named her first book Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and it was released in the United Kingdom on July 26, 1997. Then an American publisher suggested that the title should be changed since the original title is not "catchy" for the American children. In my opinion, I understand this part since British and American English are different. On September 1, 1998, the book Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone was released in the US. That's the reason why book 1 has two different titles. And as for the movie, they made two versions as well, the American and British versions. The movie was released on November 2001 both in the US and UK.
"Yer a wizard, Harry"
If you've watched the movie and got hooked, I promise you'll love it more when you'll read the book. There were lots of scenes that were not included in the movie. I've known some people who watched the movies but don't have any time to read the books. So for the Potterhead wannabes aka filthy mudbloods, I will give you a glimpse of the missing scenes from the movie.
1. Wizarding world celebrating the defeat of You-Know-Who
In the movie, the introduction scene was Professor Dumbledore strolling in Privet Drive and was using his deluminator to put out the street lights. In the book, it shows the typical day of Vernon Dursley and how the muggles witnessed the wizards celebrating. Of course, the muggles didn't know the real deal, all they saw were unusual things happening. When Vernon was on his way to work, he saw funny looking people that are wearing weird cloaks. The owls are behaving unusually and weird shooting stars all over Britain. And Vernon noticed a tabby cat that is observing him all day. We all know that this tabby cat is Professor McGonagall.
Did you know? The motorbike used by Hagrid when he delivered baby Harry to Privet Drive was owned by Sirius Black
2. Harry is not supposed to go to the zoo
In the book, Petunia didn't have any plans in bringing Harry with them to the zoo. They would always leave Harry to Mrs. Figg whenever they had to go out. By the way, Mrs. Figg is a squib, meaning she came from a family of witches and wizards but she can't perform any magic. Sadly, we wouldn't meet Mrs. Figg in the movie until Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. And also in the book, Dudley was bringing his bestfriend, Piers Polkiss, to the zoo.
3. Harry doing magic unconsciously before knowing he is a wizard.
If you came from a family of wizards, at a very young age, certain signs would show if you have magical capabilities. For Harry, he was able to do magic and Petunia noticed it . He was able to grow his hair overnight when his Aunt Petunia cut his hair. Further, he mysteriously got to the school's chimney when Dudley and his friends tried to bully him. There was also a shirt that shrunk when his Aunt Petunia tried to dress him with it.
4. Hagrid didn't leave Harry in King's Cross
First of all, Hagrid showed up to Harry's birthday which is on July 31 and the Hogwarts' start-of-term is on September 1. So you might be wondering why Hagrid delivered Harry to King's Cross one month before the start of the term? Well, here's the thing; in the book, after Hagrid and Harry bought his school stuff in Diagon Alley, Harry went home to Privet Drive and waited until September 1. It was his Uncle Vernon who delivered Harry to King's Cross. You might say that the Dursleys are not as bad as what we think, you are wrong; they delivered Harry only to make fun of him because platform 9 and 3 quarters doesn't exist - in the muggle world.
5. The Weasleys already recognized Harry before Ron sat with him on the train
The Weasley twins already met Harry Potter before the train took off for Hogwarts. They helped Harry with his trunks to his compartment and then they noticed the legendary scar. After that, they went to say goodbye to their mother and told her about Harry. When Ron arrived in Harry's compartment, he already who his companion was.
6. Harry meeting Draco in Diagon Alley
While Harry was buying his uniform for Hogwarts at Diagon Alley, he met Draco there. In typical Malfoy manner, Draco bragged about anything especially about his father. Harry disliked him from that point on. In the book, it stated that Draco reminded Harry of Dudley.
Peeves is in books 1 through 7 and it's kinda frustrating that Peeves was not included in any of the movies. Peeves is a poltergeist; he can make things move and he likes to set booby traps and make fun of the students. But he is afraid of the Bloody Baron. And for spoilers, Peeves helped in the Wizarding War.
8. Wizard's duel between Draco and Harry
The wrath between Harry and Draco are undeniably obvious. There's always tension between them. After that scene with the Flying Lessons, Draco would always tail Harry; following him. Then one day, in the great hall, Draco challenged Harry to a duel and of course, he wouldn't back out right? It turned out that this was a trap so that Harry and Ron would get detention. Draco didn't show up in the meeting place. That moment led to discovering Fluffy because they were running away from Mrs. Norris. Neville was with them when they discovered the trap door because he forgot the password to Gryffindor tower and he has no other option other than to come along with Harry, Ron and Hermione.
9. Mirror of Erised
In the mirror of Erised, Harry didn't just see his parents but the entire Potter clan. When Harry and Dumbledore coincidentally met in the room where the mirror is, Harry asked Dumbledore what he saw in the mirror and Dumbledore replied that he saw woolen socks. This is a spoiler: Dumbledore lied to Harry. According to theories made by Potterheads, Dumbledore would always see Grindelwald in the mirror of Erised. If you've watched Fantastic Beasts and the Crimes of Grindelwald, you'll know what I mean.
10. Baby Norbert
Who wouldn't forget about the Norwegian Ridgeback dragon of Hagrid? In the movie, Draco saw the dragon in Hagrid's hut and told Professor McGonagall about it which led to confiscating baby Norbert and Dumbledore having to send baby Norbert back to Romania. In the book, neither McGonagall nor Dumbledore knew about baby Norbert. It was Harry, Ron and Hermione who communicated to Charlie Weasley so that he can fetch baby Norbert. And in case you didn't know, Charlie is the older brother of Ron who works in Romania and takes care of dragons.
11. Detention in the Dark Forest
In the movie, it was the Golden Trio and Draco who had detention in the Dark Forest. In the book, it was Neville instead of Ron who joined the detention. So what happened? Ron was bitten by Norbert and he was forced to stay in the hospital. Neville overheard Draco about the dragons and Draco's plans to catch Harry and Hermione on the act. Neville subsequently went looking for them to warn them.
The centaurs were wandering in the Dark Forest. When Neville, Hermione, Draco and Harry had detention with Hagrid, they met the centaurs. Centaurs are stargazers by the way and they predict the future through the stars and planets. Firenze saved Harry from You-Know-Who and he let Harry ride on his back. And because of this, it led to a disagreement between Firenze and his herd. Centaurs do not let any humans enslave them and what Firenze did was against the rules of his herd and later on, he will be banned from his herd (sorry, this is a spoiler)
13. Five protective enchantments for the Philosopher's stone
What else do you think are missing in the movie? Snape's riddle about potions and Quirrel's Troll. Yes, the troll that was messing around on Halloween was actually Quirrel's trap but it was no use. Harry and Hermione simply passed by the unconscious troll effortlessly. Then the next trap was Snape's riddle about potions. Of course, Hermione got it right which helped Harry get to the Philosopher's stone.
14. The Dursleys fetching Harry at King's Cross
Believe it or not, the Dursleys were somehow concerned for Harry. They fetched Harry at King's Cross when the term ended. This is where the Dursleys met the Weasley family and Hermione.
I hope you enjoyed this article and there's a YouTube video below for the deleted scenes. Some of these are actual scenes from the book. Enjoy!

I enjoyed all the books and movies. Thanks for this, but I guess if they used every scene in the books the movies would have twice as long.

Hi Anicham! According to what I have read, the movie will be very long if they have included all the details in the book, but as for me, I would still watch. But the movie is still great.
