Happy Soul's Day to Manatita - a Humble Offering for His Birthday!

Sean is a teacher who is writing about his spiritual adventures to help other people find balance and self-respect.

There is the life we dream, the life we deserve and the life we will live. The purpose of our Spiritual struggle is to make these three become one.

— Sean Dragon

A Man of Love, 68 Years Young

I am a blessed man. Blessed in so many ways. One of these is my acquaintance with Manatita and his work. I am sure that many people feel the same way after the Light of Manatita's Heart warms theirs!

I am really too small to describe the vastness of his talent. The only thing I can say is that his poems are divine songs coming straight from Paradise, nurturing the Seed of Love we all have within! That's why his work is a higher act of Love. Because it is almost impossible for someone to read one of his poems without feeling the call back to the origins of Love!

So, this Hub is nothing more than an opportunity and an invitation to anyone who wants to express his gratitude for Manatita's work to leave a comment for his 68 birthday. Let's give him back a little of the Light, which so generously has offered to us!

Manatita, my Poem Gift

Man of Love, oh you humble server of His Grace

Angel of spiritual beauty and Lantern Carrier

Never get tired to sing about the Aromas of our Home

Awakening the Spirit of the Seed we all have within

Those who have been blessed with the Light of your Heart

Immigrants in the deserts of this cunning world

The way back Home seeking through your words

Accepting your advice that Love is the only Path!

Transformation of the body shows us how pure we can be. Liberation of the vital shows us how dynamic we can be. Revelation of the mind shows us how vast we can be. Manifestation of the heart shows us how divine we can be.

— Sri Chinmoy

Manatita was born Cecil Kingsley Hutchinson, in a beautiful little village called Hermitage, in the Parish of St Patrick's, Grenada, West Indies (W.I.).

He had a wonderful childhood although his mother had very little money, needed support from others to help bring him up, and was a single 'mom'. She became pregnant while still at school and not quite seventeen.

He describes:

"Some sixty-five years ago, and in a small country village paradise, we were all so innocent! All the trappings of this modern life were so alien to us! These reminiscences are part of what I mean by having a very beautiful childhood. "

"Of course, we fought as boys would, played cricket, drove downhills recklessly on home-made carts, spun tops, dug for miniature turtles in the ground, and did many other crazy things in the late fifties and early sixties.

Down in Grenville, in the Parish of St Andrew's, we played football in the Park, went to late-night movies, or could easily be found "liming" on the streets and bridges on a hot day. Throughout all this, my mother allowed me freedom, and perhaps I was also a very willing boy. I remember always wanting to go to school, to do good, to help, and to be cheerful.

We were a loving family, but although I was never short of food in what was essentially a small agricultural country, I was the first of seven children, and my mother's financial position was never that brilliant, even at the best of times."

His first experiences with spirituality happened quite early. He says:

"I was brought up an Anglican and was baptized and confirmed at the age of nine. Like most of my friends, I went to Sunday school, and so I was exposed to the religious life at an early age. During this period some evangelist preachers visited Grenada, and so I followed them to their various locations where they gave talks and preached about the Godly life. ... I was so fired with the love of God! By the time I was thirteen, I had numerous certificates for outstanding biblical studies and really wanted to have an encounter with Jesus Christ."

"School life was great. I went to a private school at four, which was run by 'Teacher Leonoris', as we called her. During this period, I was exceptionally bright. When I was five, my mother took me to the city of Grenville, St. Andrew's. There she began her search for a better and more fulfilling life. I went to the St. Andrew's Methodist School, experienced morning assemblies, learnt moral principles and said 'grace' before meals. All this greatly helped to shape my spiritual life.

Here I was to stay until I was fifteen. For what were perhaps God-ordained reasons, I did not sit the scholarship exams at nine and again at eleven. Consequently, I did not go to High School. Who knows, had I done so, I may have been a scholarly Professor somewhere, and never felt the call of God.

After leaving school, I went straight to work in order to assist my mum, who by this time had six other children to feed. I dabbled with two or three jobs, varying from being a clerk, to working on a building site, and finally being a policeman.

I remember having a 'soft' heart, talking to minor offenders rather than arresting them, and not feeling within me the toughness for the job as needed.

Unknowingly, I was being moulded for a different calling. I quit my job at the age of twenty-one, took the opportunity that nursing offered me, and travelled to England in search of exploration and a different life. I spent two weeks with my youngest and loving aunt, and then started my vocation as a nurse at HillingdonHospital, Uxbridge, Middlesex."

Whatever takes place in the divine Providence is not only for the best, but also inevitable, because there is no alternative.

— Sri Cinmoy

We found him in London, some years later, receiving his Higher call! He describes:

"It is September 1982; I am sitting at home in a two-bedroom maisonette. Things are different now. I am a responsible father and husband in London, England. I have a very beautiful, devoted, and dutiful wife, and a two-year-old son. Today is my day off work. I am sitting downstairs when I hear a loud sound coming from the direction of the hallway. I go expectantly to the doorway. A rather large packet drops to the floor. It is addressed to me. I open it and see a book inside. "The Path: Autobiography of a Western Yogi," by Swami Kriyananda. I begin to read, and a very powerful thrill runs through my Heart. I have come home.

One week later, I am again influenced by two books: "The Bhagavad Gita, As It Is" by His Divine Grace, A.C. Bhaktivedanta, Swami Prabhupada, and, "Meditation: Paths to Tranquility," by Peter Russell. Taking an address and telephone number from the latter, within a week I had found the Sri Chinmoy Centre, became inspired immediately by the writings and personality of Sri Chinmoy, and accepted him as my Guru. As regards the Centre, since that very first day, October 1st, 1982, I have never stopped going."

The information has been taken from the incredible Manatita's book "My Guru, Sri Chinmoy: Life and Teachings."

Gratitude for the Light of your Heart, my brother, Manatita! I wish God gives you His Divine Flame for many more years so that you will carry It to us! Much Love!

Haha, Nikki.

There was a cake on Saturday and I blew out the candles. The poetic crowd of about 35 people, also sang the birthday song to me. Quite cute. I sent the video to Sean, but perhaps he feared that there are too many videos.

Today is my official birthday celebration, as our Centre (Place of worship) always celebrate. I missed going Sunday, so they will celebrate today. There will be a cake, God's Grace … I will sit at the shrine in prayer and they will sing me forgiveness and gratitude songs. They are my favourites. I will definitely get some photos and even a video for you.

Once again, my pranams to everyone here for your tremendous support and encouragement.

P.S Send me your What's App number

manatita44 from london on February 11, 2020:

A true Guru is generally called a Satguru/Saviour/Master/Messiah … and has the words Sri or Lord attached to his or her name. A Satguru is one with the Will and Consciousness of the Absolute and has no will of his own.

Some one was extolling the virtues of Alan Watts last night. True, he has influenced millions and is awesome for a good spiritual foundation. The Satguru's writings and spiritual capacity is different as he/she embodies God fully.

He can touch you and give you life and has the capacity of a Christ, Rama, Buddha, Krishna, Ramakrisha and Chaitanya. He is one with God. Guruji used to say that these men and women of God are very rare and can be literally counted on your fingers. They change the face of the world when they come.

Yes, the word Guru is used loosely, to mean teacher both by Indians and westerners alike. They grow on trees, like mushrooms! There's a family Guru, an Astrology Guru, a maths Guru and so forth.

Gu means darkness, Ru means to dispel, light. The word Guru means Dispeller of darkness. Only the direct descendants of God has that unique capacity.

Finally, there are gradations of spirituality, just like in school. Kindergarten, high school, college and university. So too, There are saints, swamis, sages, seers, rishis, avatars …. the spiritual heirachy is endless, as God is constantly in motion. God-men are more silent and those we know, are usually the popular guys, those who say 'safe' things. They help immensely, like a good life-coach or motivator, but are not Self--realised Souls. A lot here. Peace.

Eric Dierker from Spring Valley, CA. U.S.A. on February 11, 2020:

Well worth the coming back to savor this fine peace/piece. I wonder what it means to be a true Guru. Of course I know the definition and have had one in my life I consider that.

Is this world so connected that we are all connected and the internet is only a cerebral part of communication? I think it is more than that as words stir the love we share from around the world.

I reckon it is just fine that Manatita is a Guru through his love in words through the internet. It resonates for me.

As it clearly resonates for so many. In our community here we have a love train, perhaps our Manatita is the engine.

manatita44 from london on February 11, 2020:

Thanks Sean for the support. Add Li-Jen and Ruby too and a poem from John. Needless to say, I do appreciate you ALL and I welcome Sean's empathetic comments.

Ioannis Arvanitis (author) from Greece, Almyros on February 11, 2020:

My dear friends, brothers and sisters, it fills my Heart with a higher joy seeing your loving response to my humble tribute to our brother! This is all about Manatita, and he answers to your beautiful comments as it should be. Of course, I will try to respond to each of you, but as my everyday schedule is hard, I beg for your understanding. I am so grateful to you all for honouring my Love to him.

I want to inform those who haven't already found out it that there are two more exceptional tributes for Manatita's birthday! Audrey Hunt (vocalcoach) and Rochelle Ann De Zoysa (rdsparrowriter) have done amazing work! Please pay them a visit and comment to give some more joy to them and Manatita! Always remember, the more joy you offer, the more pleasure you get!

I love you, my brother, Manatita, and I pray for you every day! I also pray for more people like you in this world! Happy Soul's day every day, from all the family!

Much Love, prayers and blessings to you all!

Sean, thank you for sharing the videos. It is good to see our friend up close and personal.

Manatita, as your days have been, so your heart has beaten for light and truth. From your first breath, you sought a higher plane. The years rolled past and though you lived the life of a child, you were forming the heart and thinking of a man who would challenge others to look within and see, in the words of George Fox, that of God. You have profoundly impacted me. And I thank you.

Happy Birthday, manatita.

Happy Birthday, Manatita! May you shine your Light for many years to come, my friend.

manatita44 from london on February 10, 2020:

Ha ha Eric.

In Rome we have to live with the Roman's. We say Happy Birthday, although in the mystic Path we know that we are soul's, so we say Happy Soul's Day. No right or wrong here. We say God a lot in the West, as we are familiar with this concept, but in Yoga it's Consciousness for The Absolute Source. Semantics, haha.

You and I both know the secret is Love.

Rosina, Pamela and of course Surabhi, the effort and Love is appreciated.

John you deserve special thanks for coming up with a poem at such short notice. More blessings from Him to you all.

Pamela Oglesby from Sunny Florida on February 10, 2020:

Do we say "Nameste" or "Peace be with you" or "I love you"? Is it happy soul's day or happy birthday? Well I know a man who fully understands those terms. This man who I am blessed to call a friend is truly that light which guides us through dark valleys and "dead" of night. Not deserved by so many but rather delivered to us with grace from the supreme.

Manatita it is truly an honor to know you.

It's all here, Bro. Immortal quotes from my Guruji, your quote, your selfless showcasing of me in public performances, a bit about my early life in the Caribbean and the manifestations in London And Tanzania.

Of course, it would not be complete without Spirituality and you have added the meditation as well as lacing the Hub with works of Love. I rather like your acrostic poem and the philosophy that Love is the only Path.

I have not said anything else in my 10 years here. Bless you, my Brother. God bless your loving Heart and your family's life of inner and outer fidelity and charm. Hari Om Tat Sat!!
