Poetry, Friendships and Nature. Saturday's Inspiration 36. Happy Birthday, to my Esteemed Friend Ann Carr

Manatita is an esteemed author living in London, UK. He writes spiritual books, flash fiction and esoteric poetry, his favourite genre.

Wisdom from the Master

"Each birthday is a new awakening. Each birthday is a new hope. Each birthday is a new promise. Each birthday is a new fulfilment..."

"Each birthday is a tune, a melody of the universal music. Each individual is also a melody of the universal music..."

"Each birthday is a petal of a flower. The flower, petal by petal, blossoms and then it is ready to be placed at the inner shrine in the aspiring heart..." - Sri Chinmoy

If you are considering weaving a tapestry of Love –of family, beauty, duty … of nature’s scenery and travel; of all things aesthetic; of arts and crafts, then you would be wise to include Ann Carr. If you are talking of diligence, devotion and fidelity to parents, children and grandchildren … a passion for love of country, the countryside, versatility and sheer hard work, then yes, you’re also talking about Ann Carr.

Now, as nothing in life is plain sailing, you may wish to touch on life’s challenges and here we learn from Ann’s interviews and comments, that she’s also had her fair share, like most of us. Yet doesn’t the same Alchemist that shapes our impediments, also brings us sunlit roses?

Today we celebrate Ann’s birthday and rightly so --her sense of community, her talent for writing, especially her endeavours in expressing the English language to so many! We celebrate her noble altruism, social justice; her literary output with prose and sometimes poetry … with so many of her engaging and creative wordplay and crafts. Skills horned or acquired from her loving mom and dad (A most gifted couple), and passed on to her children and grandchildren with love.

Ann and her Soul Mate

Vocation and Interests

Ann’s a retired teacher, who mainly taught literacy and English as a Foreign Language (EFL). She also speaks fluent French. Ann was privileged to work for many years at a wonderful independent establishment in Somerset, England, with primarily dyslexic students. Children who were inspirational, yet who arrived with no self-esteem, frightened and often bullied.

Ann fostered and worked assiduously with these kids, creating a benchmark of confident people with good GCSE grades, able to contribute to society; to cope with their difficulties and succeed, in spite of the struggles, with which they arrived. Ann also taught multi-nationals at a school in London and dyslexic students overseas for more than 15 years until retirement.

Her writing career is varied, with several published articles, the usual myriad of fiction, non-fiction and poetry, as well as a passion for photography. Family is a huge part of her life with two daughters and 6 grandchildren to delight in, as well as a supportive and loving partner. I think I can say, somewhat cautiously, that her last major team-work --the renovation of her bungalow, is complete; so her interest in gardening has been rekindled.

Ann has visited many countries, including South Korea, Mauritius, Norway and Australia. She loves driving, riding a motorbike (in good weather!), reading, painting, drawing and, of course, writing! Her passion for tennis, has been curtailed by physical restrictions.

Life in retirement has been wonderful for Ann and she lives with her soulmate, near Burnham-on-sea, I believe, with her two gifted and successful daughters, their husbands and five fun-filled, kind grandchildren of three girls and two boys. (From ‘Vocation and Interests’, has been paraphrased by me from Ann’s profile)

Harvesting the glow of elegance, my Heart wept, as she became a river of beauty

Friendships. A Sonnet

Friendships are blessings that come from above,

Like flowers they bloom, with minimal sighs.

Virtual or relative, soulmates in love,

Accepting the lows, to cherish the highs.

Scroll to Continue

Friendships hold hands, always sheltering hearts,

Blend in a fusion of harmony sweet.

When one is unwell, the other one starts,

To do all that’s right and makes them complete.

Friendships are durable, steady and strong,

In times of the ‘chills’ or ‘sunny’ old songs.

Displays great affection, when things go wrong,

Proclaiming its partner’s, vict-o-ry gongs.

Friendships are loving and beautiful lights,

Igniting the rays of Heaven’s Delight.

-Manatita, The Lantern Carrier. 27th April, 2021

Derbyshire Dales. A Sonnet

The verdure of the overhanging thrills,

Glisten with immaculate purity.

The green winding paths; undulating hills,

Whispers the rev’rence of Gaia’s duty.

Stillness and intimacy; golden dreams,

Magenta clusters; astonishing plains.

Views of serenity; magical streams,

Verdant foliage; meandering lanes.

Stunningly beautiful, breathtaking peace,

A vista of landscapes, kissing my soul.

Indigo heavens with nothing amiss,

Soothingly heartening; making me whole.

My core cried with beauty, shedding its tears,

So proud of the Dales, that vanquished our fears.

- Manatita, the Lantern Carrier

Children are Like Nature. Another style of Rhyming Sonnets (First line is a bit stuck)

Birds are like children, so happy and gay,

Carefree, spontaneous, ever they play.
Butterflies and grandeur, dance their sweet songs,
Tulips unfurl, while pure daisies abound.

Children like buds, are so cute and charming,
Smile like the sun while flowers so warming,
Dance in the glow of their innate beauty;
God's fragrant Love, their most sacred duty.

Infants will waltz, as the nightingales sing,
The Charm of the eyes, to mom's heart they bring.
Dad dotes on their gazes; innocent stare,
Such splendour and sweetness, all where, all where.

Children and blue-bells, share a cute secret,
Their lives are pure wafts, blending with Spirit.

Haha. The energy of some things are innate. We won't find them in dictionaries, but they sing at dawn, when our Hearts merge with the glistening Light

Ann Carr from SW England on May 02, 2021:

Thank you for your understanding; much appreciated. Yes, I did notice the mix of the things I love - not sure about virtues!!

manatita44 (author) from london on May 02, 2021:

No problem.

it occurred to me, that's why I wrote to you yesterday, as soon as I put up the Hub. Even wanted to do it before, but that would have removed the element of surprise.

You honour me by coming here and I'm truly grateful. You may have noticed that all three poems are designed to reflect the durability of friendships, nature's beauty and the innocence of children and nature again. In other words, I was trying to home in on some of your virtues.

Happy, Happy Birthday, Sunday 2nd May, 2021. I was born on a bright Sunday. Much Love.

P.S I will remove the picture now. It may take 5 mins or so to disappear. Peace,

Ann Carr from SW England on May 02, 2021:

Thank you, manatita! I'm honoured. You've really given me a glowing report.

One thing I have to ask you though, with apologies, is to remove the photo of my granddaughter and the snowman. I have to ask my daughters for permission to put up photos of any of the 6 grandchildren and I don't think her Mum would be happy about that one on someone else's hub. Sorry.

Your verses are lovely too. I appreciate such a wonderful tribute and the card too!
