Breaking Bad - Habits: a Political Poem

Ignore the in-my-face obvious issues and lend all of my attention to unwarranted, groundless non-issues? Not happening!

Bad Habits and Breaking Them

We the people have numerous bad habits, some would call impulsive writing practices, a bad habit

It is a bad habit to judge others; to whisper they do not belong, who do they think they are - they just don’t fit

The devotion which so many give to trends, to hearsay, to group think and not to their own Nation -

going along with every new fad, every new impulse, that which causes a mighty sensation

I’d argue passionately, that’s a bad habit, which does great harm and can even have deadly consequences

When the thinking becomes, it will only hurt others, not me, it is beyond time to come to one’s senses

A United Nation, one, not two, not three, is what we were always intended to be

Those who believe placing wedges is okay, truly do not understand, what it means to live free

The ignorant, devoted to a party, a cause, a movement and not their Country, are assisting with the fall

When it all comes tumbling down, no one will be safely harbored, it will tumble down…on us all

I have personal experience of what it means to be canceled, believe you me, it is very real

The day free speech became squelched here, is the day transformation became a very big deal

We must all come together, for the loss of freedom does such damage, it will impact us all

Think of all who wish to come here, what will it all be worth, when together with us, we altogether watch it fall

We have a bad habit of never weighing the consequences, of never looking ahead

We submit to those with the most power, we succumb to their promises, instead

The choices we make now, will catch up with us, although it may be a ways on down the road

We must always be alert, informed, our children’s future is at stake, we carry a heavy burden and our brother carries a heavy load

But together we can overcome, we can save this Republic, designed for one and for all

We need to kick our bad habits, thinking it can never happen here, pride comes before the fall

I am just a messenger, I find no satisfaction in being mocked, dismissed or ignored

But the enemies of freedom are much bigger fish than I, they alone, should be abhorred

Look around the world, at places that once blossomed with activity and commerce, places that once thrived

Their undoing didn’t happen naturally or spontaneously, their demise was deceitfully contrived

No one wishes to stand alone, invisible, no one wishes to be cast aside

But, I must turn back and refer to that scripture once more - before the fall, comes pride

In my latest hub, I ask, which space do you need to take up, to prevent tyranny from entering in

You probably don’t need to think on it very long, you know exactly where to begin

We all have our bad habits, some lead to problems within, others can destroy a Nation, that is what is at stake

I implore breaking out of bad habits, understanding what is at stake and start thinking outside of the box, the future depends on it, for heaven’s sake

Refuse to step aside, refuse to be dismissed, your voice is more powerful than you will ever know

We were challenged long before now, we were instructed to challenge and to challenge boldly and so -

we must be so bold to question, even the very existence of God, we cannot hide

there can no longer be such separation, we must all be on our Country’s side

Time to lose such loyalty to parties, time to stop allowing the divisive, us versus them, to enter in

When we all work together, breaking this truly bad habit, we can all begin to heal, we all win

Hi Peggy it is a great song, some things never go out of style!

Thanks for commenting.

BRENDA ARLEDGE from Washington Court House on October 17, 2021:

A B,

You have written what I call a very effective piece if prose, "Bad Habit".

Your words tell us we need to wake up before it's too late.

We need to stop thinking about only ourselves & think about the whole world as One Nation.

Stop following the latest crave or the newest fad.

We need to change the way we think and include others..stop the mentality that it's only going to happen to others and not me.

Kick our bad habits and come together.

Don't give up free speech as we work together toward common goals to save our Nation.

You picked an excellent video to go with your article.

Those words:

"Come on people now, smile on your brother, "

Says it all.

We need to come together.

I'll post a link in the word prompt article.

Peggy Woods from Houston, Texas on October 17, 2021:

I like that song you chose at the end. "Come on people now, smile on your brother, everybody get together, try and love one another right now." If everyone did that, we would not be so divisive in our politics, and our nation...our very freedoms we enjoy...would benefit. Can we do this? I guess time will tell. You have written a thought-worthy piece!
