Prompt - John Hansen

Recently John Hansen gave the HubPage community a prompt to write. There is a lot of latitude in this prompt, as we can write a poem or a story using a sentence from a book.

John is the 'King' of the poets in this community as he never disappoints. His poetry can be about any topic you might suggest. His "Poems on the Porch" series is wildly popular, and we all look forward to each article. I consider him a friend as we have been following each other for several years.

I have only written one poem before this one, but I was certainly encouraged to write again. I don't think this poem will win any awards, but it was a nice challenge to write.

Path of Life

Path of Life

The day is bright, the sun is shining

Only problems can sour the day,

Thing may be an artifact or treasure

Necessary to help us find our way.

For each idea the imagination soars,

The birth of an idea elates our brain,

Triumph feels good, problems are solved,

Of each victory that we hope to gain.

Evil sometimes blocks our path,

Is determination what we need?

For we always want to find our way,

Good ideas come, then we succeed.

Men work hard to find their way,

To nurture their families every day,

Do unto others is how they live,

Nothing therefore is lost in the fray.

Hi Flourish,

I have always liked that sentence. I hope you are right. Thank you for your comments.

FlourishAnyway from USA on March 14, 2021:

I like the sentence you chose as inspiration and the poem the sprung forth from it. You are more of a poet than you know. Good poems do not have to rhyme.

Hi Devika,

This poem was truly a challenge and took me a while, but I enjoyed it overall. Thank you so much for your nice comments. I may write more poetry, but I like the medical articles even though they are very time-consuming to write. Best to you as well.

Hi Manatita,

Thank you for telling me about the highlighting as I actually wrote the poem while highlighting the first word in a Google document. When I copied and pasted it did not transfer over and I failed to notice.

I am glad liked the poem, the flowers and how could anyone not like Satchmo. I love that song.

Thank you so much for your comments. Much love to you.

fran rooks from Toledo, Ohio on March 12, 2021:

Pamela, I absolutely love your poem! You have an unsung calling!

manatita44 from london on March 12, 2021:

Beautiful poem Pamela and I loved the flowers. Tulips? Had to tell. Satchmo has stamped his mark on that song so strongly, that he will be difficult to replace.

You did a great job with John's prompt, but forgot to highlight the words on each line. This will convey the message better. Otherwise, commendable! Much Love.
