Intro:
Life moves fast. Faster than we want the present slips further and further into the past. Yet in our minds we try and hold onto past glories and friendships fearful of letting go because letting go means we are getting older.
Getting older means there are fears one day we will lose our usefulness. When that day comes we will find ourselves siting in a retirement home bidding our time until our end comes and we go home. These poems are dedicated to all those who are still reveling in their glory days.
Glory Days
Traveled through the maze of youth
Sometimes in a daze
Never fully understanding the
Meaning of my ways
Livin’ life to the fullest
Doin’ all that I could
To soak up each moment
As I knew I should
Glory days
Wonder where they went
So much time gone
So much time youthful spent
My world felt so different
Then the one my parents knew
But now that I am older
I’ve got the same view
Glory days were over in the
Twinkling of an eye
Everything changed
The years passed by
One day your young have the world
In the palm of your hand
The next your raisin’ children
The best way you can
Glory days
Wonder where they went
So much time gone
So much time youthful spent
But glory days do live on
Through a child's eyes
When you see the world anew
As you touch their lives
Glory days
Wonder where they went
So much time gone
So much time youthful spent
Glory Days Revisited
Can’t hold onto memories trying to relive
A bit of past glory, a life you used to live
They’re lost in the past, the sands of time,
Remembered as the Glory Day of your life
Glory Days, Glory Days
Glory Days
Over in the twinkling of an eye
Glory Days
Memories of a life which passed us by
Ran into an old friend just the other day
Talked about past long ago slipped away
Shared old memories lost over time
Becomes a blur, trapped in our minds
But still we try onto those glory days
Keeping alive memories of youthful ways
Taking, dreaming of the way things were
Wishing in our hearts we could go back there
Glory days
Over in the twinkling of an eye
Glory days
Memories of a life passed us by
I walked away wondering when I had grown old
I wish there were some way to put life on hold
But with each new day comes more aches and pains
Still I know in my heart memories I can reclaim
I don’t ever want to let go of my old friends
To me that would just be a signal of the end
But still we try and hold onto those glory days
Keepin alive the memories of our youthful ways
Talking, dreaming of the way things were
Wishing in our hearts we could go back there
Glory days
Over in the twinkling of an eye
Glory days
Memories of a life passed us by
Glory days
Over in the twinkling of an eye
Glory days
Memories of a life passed us by
I Wanna Go Back
My thoughts return to
times so long ago
Memories of the people,
the places we’d go
We swore our lives were
never gonna change
Our future would hold
more pleasure than pain
Now I know things are
never gonna be the same
I wanna go back,
To the times long gone by
But I know I can’t go back
I wanna go back
Cause I’m over the hill
To retouch all the memories
But I know I can’t go back
It’s funny how your mind works
The places it takes you each day
The people you remember
The things you say
I wanna go back,
To the times long gone by
But I know I can’t go back
I wanna go back
Cause I’m over the hill
To retouch all the memories
But I know I can’t go back
Life Is About
Life is about doing
Not Getting
Life is about growing
Not about sitting still
Life is about helping
Not complaining
Life is about loving
Not about hiding
Life is about smiling
Not frowning
Life is about giving
Not about taking
Life is about listening
Not about bragging
Life is about singing
Not about being quiet
Life is about asking
Not about demanding
Life is about tasting
Not about gorging
Life is about playing
Not about the sidelines
Life is about happiness
Not about sadness
Life is about attracting
Not about repelling
Life is about tomorrow
Not about yesterday
Life is about adding to
Not about subtracting from
All of this leads one final thought
Life is living for eternity
Not about living for the here and now
Working Man’s Blues
I’m a working man
I can’t complain
I go to work each day
To earn my pay
In order to live my life
In a certain way
Still I feel lonely
Still I feel down
There must be more to life
Then workin’ till
You’re in the ground
I’ve got the working man blues
Working man blues blues, blues
The clock crows
The wind blows
I drag myself to work
The time drags
The work lags
Won’t this day ever end
I’ve got the working man blues
I’m a working man
I can’t complain
I go to work each day
To earn my pay
In order to live my life
In a certain way
Still I feel empty
Still I feel lost
There must be more to life
Then each day
Of counting the cost
The clock crows
The wind blows
I drag myself to work
The time drags
My boss nags
The papers are piling up
I’ve got the working man blues
Working man blues, blues, blues
I've got the working man blues
