Feminine Chocolate Naughtiness
Women behaving badly – surely not? Shouldn’t we girls set an example of good behaviour? And aren’t there enough men and boys behaving badly already?
For me there is nothing worse than a woman trying to outdo men in being bad. So called ‘ladettes’ typically hit the town dressed up like hookers and proceed to get horribly drunk at the earliest opportunity.
They hunt for men in packs until alcohol renders them more or less immobile.
First let me reassure you that this series of short essays is not about girls ‘laddish’ behaviour but more an examination of those little feminine naughtinesses that are not really sins at all and are essentially the prerogative of women and not men.
Lets begin with Chocolate (Ummmm). A pleasurable way to begin our quest for girlish naughtiness.
Chocolate - A girl's Wicked Pleasure?
So why the commonly held myth that women are so passionate about chocolate? Don’t men like their chocolate bars too? Could it be some subtle psychological link to sex that doesn’t apply equally to men?
Another popular story is that women who indulge in chocolate have more satisfying sex lives than women who deny themselves. This link with man-free sexual desire is often emphasised in chocolate advertising.
In the UK there is an infamous advert for Cadburys Flake that has run for many years featuring dreamy girls sucking on slender, flaky cylindrical chocolate bars.
So What is Chocolate?
Chocolate is produced from the seed of the tropical theobroma cacao tree. Cacao is grown in Mexico, Central and South America.
The seeds of the cacao tree have an intense bitter taste, and must be fermented to develop the flavour of chocolate.
Once fermented, the beans are dried and roasted, and the shell is removed to produce cacao nibs. The nibs are then ground to what is known as cocoa mass; this is a crude form of what we know as chocolate.
This is usually liquefied to what is known as chocolate liquor. This in turn can be processed
into two components; cocoa solids and cocoa butter. Baking chocolate contains cocoa solids and cocoa butter in varying proportions and is bitter.
Much of the chocolate consumed today is sweet combining cocoa solids, cocoa butter or other fat, and sugar. The addition of milk powder or condensed milk makes what we know as milk chocolate.
So Why do Women Adore Chocolate?
The celebrated Italian lover Casanova (1725-1798) was supposed to have taken chocolate before bedding his conquests on account of chocolate's reputation as an aphrodisiac. More recently, a Harvard study showed that chocoholics lived longer than abstainers.
But back to the original question as to why women like chocolate so much. Could it be that chocolate is a man substitute? After all, chocolate is as sweet as it is rich and we girls like rich men.
It also comes in a choice of white, brown or dark and you can always eat it, without blushing, in front of your mother.
My friend Millie also says that it doesn’t scream when you bite the nuts but I'm not sure I understand what she means?
Now here's your homework girls. Read up all you can on the chemical effects of chocolate on the brain. Practical homework? Yes of course. Buy lots of different types of chocolate and experiment with its effects on your physiology.
Is it an aphrodisiac? You tell me (leave a comment below). And remember, a great place to start your quest for new chocolate products is online. Buying chocolate online has never been easier.
And finally, when you've hit the shops or the web on your quest for chocolate, don't forget to look out for more short features on Women behaving Badly from Gina; for example: Women Behaving Badly with Shoes

BP: This is a problem with articles about naughty things. It just adds to the temptation. I'm currenly writing about shoes (eating chocolate as I go) and I'll probably buy another pair before the hub gets published!
