How To Start Online Content Writing?

All of us have been beginners earlier. As such, many would be able to relate to this article.

It is difficult for the new and aspiring writers to understand, exactly how to begin, and from where to start.

At times, these beginners do not have a clue, about the kind of writing, they want to do, or the path they want to follow.

Perhaps, the most difficult thing for them is to understand, how to give shape to their brilliant ideas, into wonderful writing.

Benefits of Freelance writing, especially in the context of Online writing:

  • As a Freelance writer, one can earn a lot and it is a fascinating vocation, and there is no doubt about that.
  • At the same time, you can widen your horizons, satisfy your creative desires, earn a lot of personal satisfaction, to see your name as a published author.
  • Writing is fun, enjoyment, and makes you knowledgeable, as you are always learning something new.
  • There are a number of sites on the Internet, where you can start your Freelance career. HubPages is one of the perfect platforms, to give shape to your creative ideas.
  • The greatest plus point of Online Freelance Writing is that you can pursue this, along with your regular job, and as per your choice of time.
  • You satisfy your creative desire to write, and even get paid for it, and I think this is wonderful.

The life of the professional writer - like that of any freelance, whether she be a plumber or a podiatrist - is predicated on willpower. Without it there simply wouldn't be any remuneration, period.

Do you need special qualities to become a Freelance Writer?

You do not need any special background to become a published writer. Successful writers come from all walks of life.

What are the requirements then?

  • Genuine desire to write and express;
  • A flair and mastery in the language, in which you wish to write;
  • Some creative ideas and imagination;
  • Lot of patience and enthusiasm;
  • The desire to learn, from the experience of yourself, and of others.

When I started writing Online, I did not have much idea, even about the computers. Although, I was writing as a hobby at my school and college. But slowly, I started learning the art of Online writing, and learning is always fun, irrespective of age. One can never feel old, if the mind is active, and still enjoys learning new things.

Writers Are Made Not Born—Poem

Yes, that' s what I believe,

If you have a flair for words,

If you are interested in reading,

If you are curious to know what's going around,

If you are determined to succeed,

then you can certainly make it,

Writing is a skill, which like all other artistic skills,

can be learnt and developed, with proper instructions and practice,

The more you write, the better you will become,

When you have your first success, it's a wonderful feeling,

Who can forget the thrill of one's first cheque,

With success comes recognition, prestige,

satisfaction, self-confidence and,

a renewed faith in one's creative ability.

Important Points To Be Considered While Submitting Your Writing

Many freelancers kick-start by writing, substandard material, and submit it for publishing.

Such substandard writings, may face rejection, which demoralises the writers.

The fundamental points to be kept in mind, whenever you write, and submit something for publishing, can be summed up as follows:

Remember the C word. The Content should be----

  1. Clear;

  2. Concise;

  3. Complete;

  4. Constructive;

  5. Credible;

  6. Correct;

  7. Coherent;

  8. Captivating.

  9. Conversational

Besides, Read, and Reread,

Revise, and again Revise,

Edit, and Re-edit,

before publishing.

To specialise, or not to specialise? That is, to niche or not to niche?

  • One thing always bothers writers—-which subject or topic, they should focus on, while writing.
  • Initially, it may take a little time to understand, what exactly is your interest. In other words, on which topic, you are more comfortable in writing and expressing, and that too effectively.
  • Sometimes the feedback from the fellow writers, and readers of your content, helps you to discover yourself.
  • But it is definitely better to specialise.
  • You will find yourself writing more often, and perhaps with more feeling, on topics and subjects, that are of special interest to you.
  • The topics can vary from Politics, Relationship issues, Environment, Children, Parenting, Entertainment, Household topics, or any other latest trends.
  • As you progress as a writer, you are in a better position to understand your specialisation, and you can use this, to your advantage.
  • People will look forward to, what you have to say, on that particular subject and your writings will become a 'Must Read' for them.

To Sum Up:

An observant eye, a fertile and creative mind, enthusiasm for writing, a willingness to apply yourself, to regular, sustained hard work, and command over the language are the main prerequisites, for being successful in the field of writing.

  • The more you write, the easier it becomes.
  • Look around yourself, there is a story everywhere. The just have to organise your ideas, and pen it down; read, revise, edit and re-edit before publishing.
  • Last but not the least, be disciplined, have patience, will power, and have faith in your ability, as a writer.

My favorite idea in your hub was that "Writers are made and not Born!" That can be really hard for new writers to learn and for experienced writers to remember! Thanks for the reminder! I needed the encouragement!

Thelma Alberts from Germany on May 11, 2015:

I have read this for the second time and it is still very informative and inspiring to me. Pinned it to my writing board just in case I need it again.

Thank you Kerry Endeko, for your kind visit and comment! We all were beginners. I can relate to your feelings. By writing regularly, one can improve day by day--saying this by personal experience. I am glad this article is useful to you. English is not my mother tongue as well. It is good to write on subjects, in which you are well versed or you have thorough knowledge about. I am interested in a variety of topics. Therefore I enjoy writing on many topics. Before starting a hub you can go through the Learning center guide. They have explained almost everything. The HP community is very helpful and supportive. You can clarify your doubts in the Forums or Q A section. Wish you all the best and happy hubbing!

TUKE KERRY ENDEKO from Half street,Toptown, Lae CIity,Morobe Province,PAPUA NEW GUINEA on June 21, 2014:

Thank you for the great advice. I have not yet written an article to publish on hubpages. I was just scared to make mistake, especially in English grammer which is a second language to me. I was encouraged on the part of writing on "specialize" subjects. I think I'll try writing on the Subject of Music as I am a music Teacher Myself and I run a private music School in Lae City of Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea. Thanks once again I really appreciate your advice.

Thanks Torrs13, for your kind visit and positive comments!

I am glad this hub is useful to you. When I started, I did not know anything about Online writing. Though I was a writer earlier, but Online writing is different.

I am still learning as everyday you come to learn something new. The community is very helpful and supportive. If at all you face problems, there is the learning center, giving answers to almost all your doubts.

I have not found a niche either, because I like variety. Though there are certain topics close to my heart, on which I write.

Welcome to HubPages and I wish you all the best!

Tori Canonge from North Carolina on May 30, 2014:

I think you gave some great advice to beginners in this hub. I never thought I would be writing for sites like Hubpages, but I'm so glad that I started because I've always enjoyed writing and this site has given me a chance to showcase my work and improve my skills. It's great to get feedback from others and to see what your niche really is. I'm still trying to find my own niche, but I'm enjoying writing about things that I've experienced and those which I have more knowledge about.

Chitrangada Sharan (author) from New Delhi, India on April 07, 2014:

Thanks DeborahNeyens, for reading and appreciating!

I agree with you that niche writing has many advantages. But I have a tendency to get attracted to variety and I like reading and writing on various topics.

Sorry for responding late, as I was a little busy for some time.

Thanks!

Deborah Neyens from Iowa on April 01, 2014:

Great tips and advice. As far as niche writing, I think its does help to have a focus in terms of becoming a more efficient writer as well being viewed as an authority. But it is fun to branch out and write about different topics.

Chitrangada Sharan (author) from New Delhi, India on March 29, 2014:

Thanks Thelma Alberts, for visiting the hub and commenting!

Thanks and have a good day!

Tolovaj on March 19, 2014:

Great introduction to wonderful but sometimes confusing world of freelancing. I would like to add another important thing: ability to learn. If you don't like to learn, if you are not able to learn non stop, you hardly have a chance. Thank you and good luck!
