Twelve Most Popular Colleen Hoover Books

Colleen Hoover is an American young adult and new adult contemporary, romance author, as well as my absolute favorite writer.

She got her start as a writer in 2012 when she self-published her first novel, Slammed. After a few months of being published on Amazon, her book achieved the #5 spot on the New York Times Bestseller list. She currently has twenty two novels and novellas under her belt.

Over the years, Hoover’s books have risen in popularity, especially amongst Gen Z. According to NPD Bookscan, with the rising popularity of #booktok on the TikTok app, as of August 27, 2022 Colleen has sold 7.3 million print copies of her books this year. Her print sales have surpassed that of the Bible by 2.3 million print books. This isn’t surprising at all! Colleen Hoover has an incredible writing style and has a way of capturing the emotions of her characters in an amazing way.

All of her books are interesting in their own way and of course some readers would enjoy some books more than others, but I felt it would be fun to compile a list based on their ratings. I’ve taken the liberty to compare the reviews of some of the most popular books she’s written on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Goodreads then rank them according to their overall review score.

3) It Ends with Us (2016)

This book has been proclaimed a tiktok sensation and, in my opinion, for good reason. This heart-wrenching, unforgettable novel is one of my absolute favorites from Hoover.

This story, published in August 2016, follows Lily, a hard-working business owner who's done everything she can to create the life she wanted. She's dating a handsome neurosurgeon but is still plagued with the worry that the relationship might not be everything that she wants. Lily's mind constantly drifts to her first love, Atlas, and when he reenters her life she's faced with the reminder of what her life used to be.

4) Verity (2018)

This psychological thriller sucked me in and had me obsessed from cover to cover. This story, published in December 2018, follows a struggling writer named Lowen. She accepts a job from Jeremy, the husband of a famous writer, Verity. He hires her to complete a popular series his injured wife is no longer able to write. While going through the office, Lowen discovers an unfinished autobiography detailing Verity's terrifying admissions. Lowen eventually develops feelings for Jeremy and is faced with the choice whether to allow him to read his wife's words or to keep them hidden.

5) Ugly Love (2014)

This intense novel, published in August 2014, follows a story centered around a relationship between Tate and Miles. I can't say this book follows the friends with benefits trope because truly, I'm not sure if they could be considered friends. Neither of them were looking for a serious relationship when they met but were both extremely attracted to each other. Although Miles outlines a set of rules that they're to follow, the lines get blurred and things get messy.

6) Regretting You (2019)

This book is hands down my #1 favorite book written by Colleen Hoover and I can't believe it's ranked #6 on this list.

This book covers the a tale of love, loss, betrayal and forgiveness. Morgan and Chris get pregnant and have their daughter as soon as they leave high school. Morgan is propelled into motherhood and being a wife at a young age, forcing her to put her dreams on hold. Morgan and her daughter, Clara, want nothing more than to be nothing alike. The only person who's able to bring peace between mother and daughter is Chris. But when he's involved in a fatal accident under questionable circumstances, the girls are forced to navigate life without him. Morgan struggles to put her life back together in the aftermath of this disaster while Clara finds comfort in the boy she's been forbidden from dating. After multiple misunderstanding, arguments and secrets mother and daughter are questioning if there will ever be a way to rebuild their relationship.

This book, in my opinion, was the most emotional story I've read from Colleen Hoover. I laughed, I cried, I felt frustrated with the characters, and I also shared in their sorrows. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good romance / family drama type book. I've included an Amazon link where you could purchase this novel if you feel so inclined.

12) Slammed (2012)

This book holds a special place in my heart. This is Colleen Hoover's debut novel, originally self-published in 2012, and the very first book of hers I've ever read. I have been a fan of hers since I first read this book ten years ago and will never stop recommending it to everyone.

This book is centered around the story of a young woman named Layken and her next door neighbor Will. After Layken's father passed away she was forced to become a source of strength for her mom and little brother. In the midst of her family turmoil she connects with Will through slammed poetry. Though there are circumstances that threaten to pull them apart, Will and Layken are able to find a way to express their feelings for each other through poetry.
