How to Deal with a Drama Queen or King

Drama King or Queen...

Regardless of whether we invite drama into our lives or not, it's bound to make an appearance. Nobody truly likes drama, but some people are prone to it. It's similar to the common cold, it enters your life when you least expect it and exits when it's darn good and ready.

Dramatics have no sexual preference, which is why we have Drama Queens and Kings. Queens and Kings come in assorted shapes and sizes. There is no age or skin color discrepancy. Drama effects us all.

We all have our own baggage and loads to carry. Nobody is immune to drama. Whether it's our own or someone else's, it's a part of life.

It's how we handle dramatic situations that count. We can allow the drama to stress us out or we can just try our best to ignore it. Chances are, most of the time we just can't ignore those uneventful moments, so we basically stress out.

Over time we get accustomed to who or what brings the unnecessary drama into our lives and we try to avoid it. That's not always easy. So, in a nutshell we need to teach ourselves on how to deal with drama and it's pitfalls.

Save the Drama for Yo' Mama

My regime in dealing with drama is basic and simple:

1. Listen to the drama (to a point)
2. Offer assistance (to a point)
3. Deal with the stress (to a point)
4. Cry less (if needed, to a point)
5. Laugh often (it greatly reduces stress)
6. Heal (it benefits your sanity)
7. Repeat the process (drama always returns)

A drama queen in the making...

A dramatic scenario...

Here is a typical situation of a queen or king who create their drama naturally.

Before (the eye before the storm)
Should I? Shouldn't I? I need advice! Hmmm, did you say something? Yes, I heard you, what did you say? Ok, so like I was saying.....

During (the storm)
Why does this always happen to me!? My life is like a bad movie! It feels like my life is falling apart! I'm so unhappy. I'm tired. WHY WON'T ANYONE LISTEN TO ME? Hellooooooo I'm speaking to you! Oh, you heard me...really? Ok, so what about me?

After (the aftermath)
Why doesn't anyone listen to me?! UGH! I really need to be heard! No one ever really hears me! I wonder why? Could I be doing something wrong?! (YA THINK)

Susan Holland from Southwest Missouri on December 30, 2011:

This is so good!! As a high school teacher, I see DRAMA every day. It is really sad when I see the same immature drama in adults. I could NEVER be a DRAMA QUEEN!! Everyone just naturally loves me and gives me my way. TEHEHEHE!! or BAHAHAHA!! GREAT HUB!! Up and across!

Tammy from North Carolina on December 30, 2011:

Pamela N Red from Oklahoma on September 18, 2011:

Dramatic people get on my nerves and I avoid them as much as I can. They don't seem to realize that they bring it on themselves by the people they choose to be with and the decisions they make.

Heather McMillan from Hampton, VA on September 04, 2011:

Loved reading this Sunshine. I laughed at the first video and I personally love the song by Toby Keith so enjoyed listening to it again. I try to keep drama out of my life, and love the pointers you gave! Rated up.

Sharon Smith from Northeast Ohio USA on September 03, 2011:

Fun read Sunshine! And videos and pics too! I have consciously been working on less drama in my life. I can't stand those that feel everything is always about them. Big pet peeve! Hope you have a great weekend!

marellen on September 02, 2011:

Hi Sunshine...there are some people who love drama because they get attention this way. There is always that small grey cloud that follows them every where. Knowing how to afford them and not get caught up in it can be challenging.

UltimateMovieRankings from Virginia on August 31, 2011:

Very nicely done....I think people that make a drama out of every possible thing....drives the people around them of the guys I used to work with was so bad we called him Jimmy Drama...and boy did the name fit him....

Awesome selection of videos and have yourself another winning hub....voted up and awesome...BER

Movie Master from United Kingdom on August 29, 2011:

Loved the hub and the first video, so funny, drama kings and queens are definitely best ignored!

Thanks for sharing.

Christina Lornemark from Sweden on August 29, 2011:

We need all the help we can get with the drama queens and kings in this world! If we let them be drama queens or kings for a while they will hopefully feel better! The problem is that the receiver will not feel so good:)) Maybe it is better to ignore them! Great regimes, on an always topical subject. I enjoyed this one!

Linda Bilyeu (author) from Orlando, FL on August 29, 2011:

Suzie from Carson City on August 28, 2011:

Goodness words WERE terms of endearment...since Little Miss Sunshine is near-young enough to be my daughter....but I prefer her as friend, cause she's a RIP-ROARIN Good time...speaking of "being a long time since..." I haven't heard "Ay yi yi," since I dated Pedro in the 70's....I love it!! You are another GEM!

Ay yi yi.

Linda Bilyeu (author) from Orlando, FL on August 27, 2011:

Really? I'm sorry to hear that Arlene. Would it help if someone called you a snot :) Consider it a term of endearment :)

Arlene V. Poma on August 27, 2011:

Just between you, me and the lamp post, I don't know about her, Sunshine. It's been a few decades since anyone has called me a snot!

Linda Bilyeu (author) from Orlando, FL on August 27, 2011:

Hi Arlene...I accept fpherj anyway and everyway she comes. She's a heck of a package deal! I'd rather have a friend call me a Little Whipper-snapper not then an enemy cause I'd to hurt them instead of LOL!! You and Paula will enjoy following each other, trust me :)

Arlene V. Poma on August 27, 2011:

Sunshine! Are you gonna take that crap from fpherj48 after you sent her my waaaaaaaayyyy??? The nerve! If you accept her potty mouth and drama, let me whip out my violin and play you a tune! Hahahahahahahaha.

Suzie from Carson City on August 27, 2011:

Little Whipper-snapper...snot!

Linda Bilyeu (author) from Orlando, FL on August 27, 2011:

Oh my Rastermermaid Oh my!!!!! I imagined your scenario unfolding and I pictured your mother's face trying to explain to the cops that she didn't beat you!!! What a funny story (now)! Thank you for sharing :))

Rastamermaid from Universe on August 27, 2011:

Sunshine I watched the clip and I laughed, but it reminded me of a trip to the Dr's when I was younger maybe 4yr old,I had fallen from a chair and being light skinned the bruising looked horrible. Well the nurse said what happened, and I replied "Mommy beat me". They called the cops on my mom that instant. My mother didn't hit me at all, didn't get my first whipping til 10.

We laugh about it now,but my mom wasn't laughing then, guess I was a little drama queen!

Linda Bilyeu (author) from Orlando, FL on August 27, 2011:

fpherj...You are very welcome...about the follow...just in case you forgot what I was talking about! :)))

Suzie from Carson City on August 27, 2011:

OK...I'll follow her. If she has a sense of humor like mine...she'll need all the friends she can get! I'll thank you NOW if you don't mind! Have a little respect for my AGE..sunshine! Now, What were we talking about?

Linda Bilyeu (author) from Orlando, FL on August 27, 2011:

Rastamermaid that's an excellent way to live your life. Drama is time consuming and such a waste of brain cells. Why emit negative energy when positive energy is so much more beneficial? :))

By the way the above You Tube video with the Drama Queen in the making is a MUST SEE for a good laugh!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

Rastamermaid from Universe on August 27, 2011:

Awesome hub Sunshine625!

Suzie from Carson City on August 27, 2011:

Voted UP! way UP!

Arlene V. Poma on August 27, 2011:

Ain't that the truth, Sunshine? Your Hub just blew me away. I will bookmark this and read it the next time I get my panties in a knot. Which isn't very often. But these past two weeks, I kinda got sucked into these young and dumb girls' drama stories. But I turned it around and got some Hubs out of those. Who knows where you can get inspiration from these days? Voted up all across the board. Thank you, thank you thank you for your insights.

Jill on August 27, 2011:

Thank you for the pointers I'll be sure to use them :)
