Do You Expect a Rewarding Writing Career?

Rajinder is a writer and editor turned digital writer's coach bringing with him 20 years of editorial expertise.

Writing is on a large scale in that you write long articles or books. Blogging is relatively a small scale activity. Blogs can be anywhere from 500 to 1500 words. There are some more differences in writing and blogging. Footnotes are used in writing but links are used in blogging. There are also differences in the styles of writing in both. What is your approach to writing? Do you want to be a blogger or a writer? Do you want to make this career rewarding?

You can always start small and then go up one more level as you gain more experience.

In this article, I want to share with you certain aspects common to both styles of writing. These will help you in your writing journey to become a good writer as well as a blogger.

Now to become a good writer you need to write stellar articles. First of all, let us try to understand what are the elements of a stellar article.

Comprehensiveness

An article must be comprehensive, to begin with. You must prepare first before starting the writing process. How can you prepare? By doing adequate research on the topic.

You must search for the topic online and gather information related to the topic. If there are any statistics involved, note them down. Note down any references that may give credibility to your article.

It is also good to do some keyword research to know whether people are searching for the topic.

Basically, do thorough research on the topic before writing about it.

A great title

A good title is important to gain the attention of readers. It should contain a mix of emotional and power words. There is a lot of psychological study behind the power of titles. Create a powerful title for your article. You can use online tools that will help you generate unique titles.

A logical formatting

It is rightly said that content is king. If you get all other aspects right but your content sucks, it won’t rank in the search engines. It won’t receive the approval of your readers.

So it is important to format your article in a logical manner.

The article should be pleasing to the eye. It should force the reader to read it. One sentence should lead logically to another one. The attention of the reader should be captured until the end of the article.

Give attention to the grammatical correctness as well. A single grammatical error can turn off the reader. It undermines your reputation as a writer. It is advisable to use an online editing software for corrections. The services of a professional editor can be of great help here.

Clearly demonstrated knowledge or expertise

You must be able to prove to the reader that you are an expert on the subject. That is when you will have their undivided attention.

Importance of an accountability partner

It is recommended that you have an accountability partner to hold you accountable for writing and publishing tasks. You can both ask hard questions to each other regarding your writing activities. This way, both will grow fast in your writing career.

The more you write, the more you understand the level of commitment to your success. Writing is not an easy task. But if you are passionate about it, you will find it easy and even enjoyable.

Don't focus on the negative things and rather focus on your positive goals. There will be many setbacks on your journey to becoming a writer/blogger. But you have to overcome them and move forward.

Focus on your worthwhile goal and have a positive mindset.

When you want to do something big, start thinking big. Think of yourself as a successful writer.

Make goal cards and keep them at a place where you can see them daily.

Use the following affirmations to help you become a good writer.

I write and publish one article per day consistently and promote 5 articles a day on social media.

I love writing and earning and my articles are valuable to help people live a successful and motivated life.

We learn from the womb to the grave but still have a craving to learn more and this craving determines how far we can go.

We learn from the womb to the grave but still have a craving to learn more and this craving determines how far we can go.

Given below are four commitment questions for you.

What is your purpose for writing?

Why did you start your writing journey in the first place? Think about it and answer it honestly.

Was it to get name and fame?

Was it to earn money?

Was it to just write because you have a passion for it?

Just reflect on this question and it will fire you up to start writing for a reason.

Do you promote on social media?

Do you promote your articles on social media? This is where the majority of writers fail. They write articles but they don’t promote them. Because of this, their articles never get traction and attention.

It is essential to promote your articles rather aggressively on the internet. You may have seen successful bloggers. They promote a lot and this is the reason they make more money than average writers.

That is the best way to increase your page views.

Do you get discouraged?

Do you get discouraged often while you move ahead on your writing journey? Well, you are in good company. All writers have to go through periods of discouragement and setbacks. Sometimes there is writer's block to deal with.

Do not become a perfectionist. You will never get it together. None of us can. That does not mean you have to give up.

There may be a number of reasons for discouragement. But when you remind yourself why you started this journey, you will never give up.

Do you write for the audience or for the search engines?

Finally, do you have the search engines in mind when you are writing? If yes, you need to stop it. Always have your audience or readers in mind whenever you are writing.

When you write for the readers, search engines will give you attention as well.

The aim of search engines is to organize all the information available globally and make it useful to the readers. When you have the same goal, you are in sync with the search engines.

So if you keep these things in mind and implement them, you are well on your way to become a great writer or a money-making blogger. You will soon be able to carve out a rewarding career out of your writing.

Very true. I realized that writing for the audience is one of the keys. The search engine only optimizes and organizes the search. If you make a very helpful piece, the engine will surely be seeing you.
