Coronavirus cell, an unusual virus infecting patients.

In December 2019, Dr. Li, an eye specialist, points out to the Chinese authorities an unusual virus infecting some of his patients. The doctor later died of the virus disease, having to contact it and infecting his sister. The disease was later identified and called coronavirus disease 2019. It is a worldwide pandemic that causes the lockdown of many countries, towns, and islands. Companies and businesses, including transportation and commerce. Schools, colleges, and universities were not exempt. Churches, mosques, and other worship centers hardly see the light of day, when the coronavirus pandemic becomes uncontrollable. It's staying at home, staying safe, and keeping healthy. Essential services like medicine, grocery, and restricted entertainment only see the green light.

The World Health Organization (WHO) and each country's Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) work hand in hand to find preventive measures and advise their respective countries.

What is Corona-virus?

It is significant that we identify the term coronavirus. Throughout man's history, the coronavirus existence is well documented, especially from the era 8000 to 2400 B C E. But the virus becomes prominent by late December 2019, in Wuhan, China. It is already a public health risk of international concern, according to the WHO.

Several species of the disease, about 200 exist. But the 2019 coronavirus distinguished it from the other species of the coronavirus, which caused the 2020 worldwide pandemic, is our story. The 2019 coronavirus is a strain of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS or CoV-2.). This implies that the strains are already well-known before the outbreak of the pandemic. It is a respiratory disease. It causes a cold or the common cold, cough, catarrh, fever, dry cough, and hardness of breath or problem breathing. Not only that, but it goes extreme in affecting the kidneys, the skin, the heart, and the liver in clotting the flow of blood to those organs according to the latest medical findings.

Moreover, the disease is transmitted from person to person. Some infected persons are asymptomatic beings. Meaning, the illness is latent in them but can spread it to others while they remain healthy. So, we are asked to use a face cloth cover to protect our lives.

Coronavirus is a severe respiratory disease. Its rate of infection is 3%, higher than the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and the Ebola virus disease, which are also strains of SARS. This is the reason why coronavirus 2019 sent a pandemic around the world, prompting governments to impose lockdowns on countries, businesses, and industries in order to contain the pandemic.

The WHO has given coronavirus disease an official name, coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19. As of April 23, 2020, corvid-19 has recorded confirmed cases of 2,549,652 and 175,825 deaths in 213 countries.

Corona Virus

Brief History of Corona Virus

The corona virus was recorded to have exist between 8,000 to 2,400 B C E. But according to Wikipedia, it was first discovered in the 1930's in chickens. One of the earliest species discovered is the common cold virus or corona virus. It is found in birds, cows, mouse, and other domesticated animals. The human corona-virus first isolated in 1967 for an experiment to verify that the common cold is a foreign agent that infiltrate the respiratory system of humans and then cause a cold.

Interestingly, a virologist, June Almeida imaged the virus by electro miscrocopy, in the same year the virus was isolated. It is also interesting to note that these various viruses affecting birds, animals, and man are different but related.

Therefore, researchers isolate another cold virus in 1967. This virus is called OC 34(OC for organic culture) the medium by which it was isolated. It is this cold virus OC 34 with its"distinctive club-like spikes" or crowns known as "corona-virus." Other corona virus later identifies are SARS, MERS, and Ebola virus.

Significance of Pandemic Lock Down

According to Jack Lee, two class of losers and winners emerged. They are the provider of services. These services are essential to life. But now is being denied or limited. What is most vital is that each loser is later a gainer or winner, and the winners can even lose.

The Loser

Here are the loser:

  • Vacation.

Corona Virus

The corona-virus pandemic like any other corona-virus disease, MERS and Ebola virus, has defiled solutions. Drug or vaccine is still far away. But along the line, there remain a relief , hope, and faith. This keep man to face the virus face on. But I realize more research need to be done as to what actually cause the virus outbreak at the incubation stage. Mankind then has to take steps to prevent re-occurrence of any such deadly virus in future.

We've got a real mess in America. There doesn't seem to be an end in sight. On the plus side the mortality rate worldwide is going down.

Miebakagh Fiberesima (author) from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, NIGERIA. on August 24, 2020:

Kanwal, I agreed with you that we took necessary precaution while waiting for the cure kit. Thanks for stopping by.

Miebakagh Fiberesima (author) from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, NIGERIA. on August 24, 2020:

Authur Russ, thanks for the visit, the read, and commenting. I had not publsh the main article on corvid yet. I just make an extract into a poem.

Arthur Russ from England on August 24, 2020:

Very informative article.

Kanwal Khan Yousafzai from Pakistan on July 11, 2020:

We are all waiting for the cure but the most important thing is to follow the precautions.

Good work!

Travel Chef from Manila on July 06, 2020:

Such a wonderful writing. I hope that even this pandemic won't end soon, at least we were able to find the right medicine to cure this one. Stay safe always my friend!

This is an all important topic that you handled with care and well-researched information.

Miebakagh Fiberesima (author) from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, NIGERIA. on June 12, 2020:

Robert, I was in our forum lately discussing the issue. It is said tha the pandemic is a hoax! I disagreed, and right here you gave the stats information that I need. Same here in my state, but the death toll average 35 daily. Climate could be factoring. Thanks for visiting again.

Robert Sacchi on June 12, 2020:

It's a mess here in the states, 6/11/20: We're still averaging over 20,000 new cases a day. Our mortality level is over 5.6%. About 1,000 people a day die from it. All this despite the lockdowns. The economy is in shambles. Thanks for the posting and the poem.

Miebakagh Fiberesima (author) from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, NIGERIA. on June 09, 2020:

Bill, with the lock down being relax, we are all on the "alert" level. Thanks for the visit and the comment.

Miebakagh Fiberesima (author) from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, NIGERIA. on June 09, 2020:

Bev, where have you been? Your reply deserve my approval, right? Do not say not to be approved. I have seen one error after after another in most of the HP writers articles. This article is feature. I will go through it to cut out the "R" in "cor." Beu, it has comes to my knowledge that HP did not feature AdSense again as revenue sharing tool. I think you had a better understanding of the question. Glad you did. Can I receive enough feedback? Many thanks.

Bev G from Wales, UK on June 09, 2020:

Hi there, it's 'Covid' not 'Corvid'. Corvid is the crow species of birds.

No need to approve this.

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on June 09, 2020:

I hope your country is doing better than the United States. I fear we will see a new uprising of the virus now that restrictions are being lifted.

Best wishes to you!

Miebakagh Fiberesima (author) from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, NIGERIA. on June 06, 2020:

Dora, you're right. I will publish another prose version of corvid-19 in three parts later with more descriptive information than ever. Thanks for the visit and the nice comment.

Dora Weithers from The Caribbean on June 06, 2020:

Good work. You covered a wide range of issues under this topic. In my humble opinion, you could have had two articles here. One consisting of the information in prose and the other would be your poem. Both seem complete and are satisfactory on their own. Informative and insightful!

Miebakagh Fiberesima (author) from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, NIGERIA. on June 04, 2020:

Eurofile, thanks for the visit and the encouraging comment.

Liz Westwood from UK on June 03, 2020:

You give an interesting commentary on the virus, complete with an appropriate poem.

Miebakagh Fiberesima (author) from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, NIGERIA. on June 02, 2020:

Pamela, thanks for the visit and the nice comment. Normalcy should be regard as to be on the "alert!" This is to contain the virus further instead of sitting on the fencd passively and doing nothing. Thanks again.

Miebakagh Fiberesima (author) from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, NIGERIA. on June 02, 2020:

Ann, I agreed with you. I have tasted the new fresh air. Never in my more than 60-years on this earth have I experienced such freshness of air. But as to your question of "how long," I think if all nations in the UN/WHO can agreed 5 days in a month can be set aside monthly as pandemic lock down week observation. Then we all can regularly enjoy the new freshness. Thanks Ann, for the visit and lovely comment.

Miebakagh Fiberesima (author) from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, NIGERIA. on June 02, 2020:

James, the truth is told that every person has his/her opinion and I respect that. Were not Vets health workers? Lately, dental technicians cried out for being sidelined in the scheme of health provider in the corvid-19 issue. But the disease was identified by a eye doctor as it began to spread. So, trunk drivers and wood workers are thanked for their part. As doctors are being but down as their patients, they seems to be at the lossing end. That is depicted in the poem. Thanks for the visit and the though provocking comment.

James C Moore from Joliet, IL on June 02, 2020:

Looks like you did your homework. I had read previously about corona viruses presence in domesticated animals. However, given the risk, I don't believe medical providers think of themselves as "winners" in this pandemic.

Pamela Oglesby from Sunny Florida on June 02, 2020:

I never thought about winners and losers of this pandemic but you made some excellent points. This virus has been awful for almost everyone around the world. Distancing from others is important now and I am not sure if we go bback to some type of normal behavior or not once this virus is gone. Only time will tell. This is a very interesting article, Miebakagh.

Ann Carr from SW England on June 02, 2020:

The virus has indeed caused a divide amongst some and caused financial difficulties across the board. However, I feel there are good points coming out of this - we have been generally more caring to our neighbours and those who need help; we have learnt that we can't rely on all the services and have to do things for ourselves; we have a better air quality (though for how long?) and the wildlife has benefited.

There is a fine balance now, being ultra-careful when going back to what might eventually become 'normal'.

Good poem.

Miebakagh Fiberesima (author) from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, NIGERIA. on June 02, 2020:

I enjoy the lock down gladly. It provide rest, refreshing, and health safety. But the economy was spoil.
