Coffee: A Poem

coffee-a-poem

A mysterious dark liquid,

Warm and bitter,

Sweetened and made creamy,

The steam rises as anticipation builds,

When sipping energy from a favorite mug,

Inspiration appears suddenly in a caffeinated brain,

While sultry flavors entice me to drink again,

Steamy, luxurious, and heavenly,

I savor my coffee and feel alive.

Here is my uninvited revision:

From the depth of the deep sea,

this wine-dark brine ocean,

—warm, bitter, and sweet—rises

the hoary breath

of a gossamer goddess,

whose wicked fragrance kicks

my dead brain in gear,

firing neurons

of sudden stars

Lovely poem and great photo.

The Examiner-1 on January 09, 2014:

Interesting, I just drank my coffee! I put molasses in mine so it does not taste bitter.

After seeing the photo and then reading the poem, I could smell, and taste, another cup. Voted up.

This hub defiantly makes me want a hot cup of coffee. Coffee and poetry are two of my favorite things, and here they are together on this page. Voted up and enjoyed!
