Look in the mirror and your little one is a snowman! How about being a polar bear? Your young reader can even become an elf in Santa's workshop when they look in the mirror along with Elfie. Parker encourages the little readers to look in the mirrors and make any face that they want to and become the character on the page. Interactive Reading Experiences for Your Toddler/ Preschooler and Infant Encourage Early Reading

I taught for a few years in an infant/toddler room before teaching preschool, pre-kindergarten and kindergarten. I always had a low book shelf in my toddler classroom with board books for the children to choose their books that they wanted to explore.

Jo Parker's Elfie Selfie is a fun choice for holiday books to add to your toddler/preschool classroom and home bookshelf. The text is written in rhymes with enhances early listening and reading. Rhyming words are some of the first language skills to be introduced to beginning readers. Listening to rhyming words when a teacher or parent reads to the young child is a beginning language skill when they learn to hear the rhymes.

*Read Elfie Selfie in a story time session. Encourage your young reader to look in the mirror that is featured on each page and see their face as one of the story characters. Encourage them to call attention to their "selfie" as they turn each page.

*Call attention to your child's eyes and nose in the mirror. Naming facial parts with toddlers and infants when they look in the mirror is a learning experience.

*Call attention to the holiday scenes on each page. Name the colors that are associated with Christmas. Point out the holiday objects on each page such as snowflakes, bows for packages, and the toys that the elves are making in Santa's workshop.

*What does Santa say when you get ot Santa's page with his "ho ho ho"! Encourage your child to look in the selfie mirror and see themselves as Santa with saying "Ho ho ho!". This encourages your young reader to use language.

*Call attention to the reindeer on the final page and name each reindeer. Encourage your child to look in the selfie mirror and discover themselves as one of Santa's reindeer. Which one would they like to be?

*Enhance the reading experience after reading Elfie Selfie and take a real selfie with your young reader and their holiday book.
