Center/Centereded the 39th good word in the Good Words Project

Centered: the 39th Word in Jo "Grace" Goldsmith’s Good Words Project. For 39 weeks Grace has given one word a week. Words for us to learn their meaning and for us to put into practice living up to what each word means to help us realize that if we live by these words and practice them, we will become the best person we can be and the best writers we can be.

This is Grace’s calling to promote the work of unknown writers to bring us recognition, to help us become known writers. Far too many writers do not get that recognition because no one knows that we are here and Jo made it her mission to read and read and read, then she would choose from our community of hubbers, she believed deserving of recognition for their writing contributions to every category, fiction, short stories, poems of every kind etc... and began writing her own monthly contribution called "The Gold Awards"

All her followers looked forward to Jo_Goldsmith11's Gold awards, where we could find who had been chosen for recognition by Grace's awards. One could not help be feel honored to see that she had chosen one of their hubs.

At the beginning I promised Jo/Grace that I would write a poem for each “Good Word” and although I am a little behind, I have kept and will keep my promise. Last week the 38th week’s good word was "Desire." It is my sincere desire to complete the Good Words Project and live up to my promise.

I had not thought of "Center/Centered" as a good word

I always thought centered meant to put something perfectly in the middle of something else, that is until Jo gave us Centered as the 39th word in the “Good Words” project. It was then I realized exactly what it meant (i.e. to be well balanced.)

What does Center/Centereded mean?

Centered: Focused, Concentrated, Fixed, Pinpointed, Spotlighted, and Highlighted.

Focused: 1. Concentrated on a particular thing. 2. Single-minded and determined –( Encarta Dictionary)

Concentrated: 1. applied with all one's attention, energy— (Bing dictionary)

I began to understand what it means to my being, to stay balanced, focused and to stay CENTERED.

Centered – 39th Good Word

I never thought of Center as a good word before,

But when I heard it is the 39th “Good Word”

I thought about it and I understood

To be centered is the balance of one’s core

A hub is the center of our hubber's world

And hubbers are the spokes

That holds it together

Each one supporting the other

That keeps us all centered

Being centered is

The pinpoint of our centet

A balance of our soul and more

Concentrated on the poise

The highlight of our souls

It is hard to remain focused

Centering on the balance to

Calm a turbulent world

When troubling flags of wars unfurl

If our goal is concentrated

And it must be told

From the core of our souls

We can find the stability

Where flags and stories of peace unfold

Center of my Life

Wouldn't it be great if our esteemed leader, the orange terror, would become stable and 'centered,' as opposed to being self-centered, as he is now?

I have read that Trump's downhill slide into even deeper craziness is due to the steroids and other drugs he's on for his covid-19 condition.

Spoke to a Walmart greeter just this morning and she is looking forward to the election because then the Democratic created virus will go away -- she really believes this. Trump has said Democrats are promoting the virus and scaring people about it in attempts to glean their votes. Thing is, most Democrats will vote Democratic anyway, so why scare them?

What a shock it will be for Trump supporters when they discover Covid -19 is still with us November 4th and beyond. I told the Walmart greeter I expect the Covid-19 will be with us for another year at least and she laughed at me. I hope I'm wrong, but I don''t think this virus is going away anytime soon, especially when so many people refuse to follow the directives of wearing masks, social distancing, avoiding crowds, and hand washing, etc.

In the 6 months since I last commented here, things have gotten much worse, and seem to be going unstoppably down hilll at a crazy pace. I really think we are living in the American Dark Ages. Pretty much everything is far off center, and I wonder what is going to become of this country and the people who have revered it from its beginning.

Posting this of AH & FB.

Wishing you blessings and good things as always . . .

C E Clark from North Texas on June 18, 2019:

Very difficult for many people (including myself) to be centered with our government constantly in an uproar. I know lots of people think the solution is to turn off the news and ignore what's happening, but burying one's head in the sand is not a solution. Everything that happens in D.C. effects all of our lives even if we don't see the connection.

Now the Grand Old Prat president is cutting back on aid to the Central American countries to encourage their people not to come here. The reason they are coming here is because things are so bad at home and cutting back on aid only makes things worse there and ends up encouraging more people to come here.

Letting Trump be above the law and get away with thumbing his nose at the law continually, only causes him to do so more, and more blatantly.

Everything in this country is getting more and more off center. We will never regain the respect as a country that we used to have, in yours or my lifetimes. Lots of our trading partners are finding other sources for their needs and we have lost many of our customers from these other countries permanently. Our farmers will be at a huge disadvantage for the rest of their lives. Of course if they voted for Trump they're getting what they ask for and deserve.

I think it will be a very long time before we can ever "just get along" after this very UNcentered 8 years in our countries existence.

I hope all is well with you and that you are staying cool in all this heat.

Very hard to be centered in the world I live in. Came back to share this excellent poem again. Very well written and well said. You always know just the right words to get your ideas across.

Hope all is well there and that you are staying cool. Blessings and hugs dear friend, as always. Take care . . .

Au fait, thank you for the comment and for sharing.

I can only hope you are well and everything is okay with you.

It is a beautiful day and I will be outside for most of it.

Blessings and hugs.

C E Clark from North Texas on January 08, 2016:

Well, after the last few days I would have to say I feel pretty UN- centered. Hopefully things will settle down soon. Very good word and very adaptable. Hopefully I will get a handle on things and bring back the center. Sharing . . .

Hope you and John are both well and enjoying our pretty days and staying warm at night. Take care . . .

Shyron E Shenko (author) from Texas on October 05, 2015:

Au fait, thank you for the comment and sharing. It takes so little to get under the Donald's skin also. I love this it is so entertaining.

I am so happy the weather is nice and hope you are enjoying this respite from the heat. It was so nice working outside today and not feeling cold or hot, got a lot done.

Blessings and Hugs dear friend.

C E Clark from North Texas on October 01, 2015:

Even more people are upset with the Donald than before. He knows his audience and his audience hasn't wavered. It's everyone else who is in a tizzy and trying to discredit him so he will appear less successful. So it would seem to me these people who are so upset are not centered. It takes so little to get under their skin. Sharing of course . .

Weather has been so nice today. Almost down to perfect. I really like when neither the heat nor the a/c are necessary. I hope John is feeling better and that you are looking out for yourself as well. Take your Vitamin C by the ton. It works for me. Blessings . . .

Shyron E Shenko (author) from Texas on September 03, 2015:

Au fait, I am loving that the Donald is running, he sure did upset the apple cart. I wonder if he will sign the pledge the GOP wants all the candidates to sign, that he will not run as an independent.

I can't wait for cool weather, have to get things done now, the lot next to us sold and we have to extend our fence.

I hope all is well with you. Take care my friend

Blessings and hugs.

C E Clark from North Texas on August 30, 2015:

I'm wondering how many people are sufficiently centered so as not to let The Donald discombobulate them? Being so angry with him makes me think he's upset their applecart and that wouldn't be so easy to do if they were truly centered would it?

Another horribly hot day -- 98 here, and still time to rise some more. Hope you are staying in. I know it's hard to get anything done without going outside sometimes, but most of the grass I see that isn't watered is brown these days. Hope all is well. Blessings and hugs . . .

Flourish, thank you for the comment. I know it is so hard to stay centered and I understand what you are saying about at peace, being even-keeled, meditative, and not overly consumed with one thing at the expense of all others.

Have a Blessed day and happy you are staying Centered.

Being centered and focused is a 'good word/expression. It keeps our eye on what really matters after all doesn't it?

Thank you for sharing this, Shyron. It causes us to stop and ponder what is important.

To me centered would mean the center of the term full circle, meaning everything connected or each point done - you gave me a better understanding and , as well, a great writing.

Being centered down to one's very mind and soul is definitely a good thing because that is where truths can be found. Good things can come of this. This was beautifully portrayed in your poetry.

Dear Beautiful Ruby thank you for your comments and comments on this. I know that being centered is being balanced but I think being self-centered means being selfish. I hope my words were not misleading.

Centered and self-centered are not exactly the same things. Centered is to be focused on something. One's goals, one's task, reality, etc. Self-centered is to be focused entirely on oneself. One could say selfish instead of self-centered.

Another great poem. Voted up, BAUI, and sharing.

Hope all is well with you. Hope to talk soon. Take care . . .

Shauna L Bowling from Central Florida on January 10, 2015:

Shyron, this is a beautiful message to the world. Awesome interpretation of what is means to be centered and how it can lead to peace. Wonderful thoughts!

Faith Reaper from southern USA on January 09, 2015:

Centered is a great word as it means being grounded, but self-centered is not the same as it is being selfish and only thinking of oneself.

Love your poetry as always.

Another important word, I've always loved the word centered as it relates to being well balanced and focus, having read your wonderful poem I love it even more. One more to add to my collection. Nicely done.

Ruby Jean Richert from Southern Illinois on January 09, 2015:

Always when I heard people say, he's/she's self-centered, I thought of them only thinking of themselves, not caring about other's feelings, not true, I find out through your poetry. Thank you Shyron. Beautiful!
