A Love Poem to Carry Me to Love

Love Poems

Love poems take many forms. There are sonnets, haiku, poetic prose, rhyming verse and the list goes on.

Love poems are often written depicting love as a fickle and, unfortunately, elusive emotion. Nearly everyone searches for it; they are willing to endure pain to find it. It can be as fleeting as it is fickle, such is the nature of love.

In pure form, we love our children, we love our parents, we love our friends. That love is often where we learn to love a mate.

The proliferation of love poems, the exuberance and the agony, demonstrates that we are, and always will be, seekers of the perfect half other half, the perfect love.

Shakespeare, Yeats, Byron, Browning, Shelly, even Poe - all masters at writing about love in its many forms, from the humorous to the tragic to the other worldly.

I will add one more love poem to the fray. It is an observation of the pervasiveness of the search and the pain that can sometimes accompany looking for the perfect love.

Carry Me to Love

Carried on the winds of courage

I present my heart;

Pristine, pure, joyous just for you.

To love you, even in the face of fear,

Sends me catapulting to a place of bliss

Lifting, soaring without wings, lightening swift.

No net to catch me if I fall

Spiraling back to earth in a torrent of pain.

Love is trial by fire, or crossing the ever burning desert sands

Scroll to Continue

With no oasis, not even a mirage, to quench the thirst, douse the flames.

Ahhh, but once again, Fate releases me and I move on,

Breathless, blistering from apathetic love,

Tossed carelessly aside, crushed, bruised, burned.

The opening intro to the poem was great. Love could be anything from good to bad and painful or sweet. Just holding on to life in such circumstances can be a source of hope where love fails. Good write! Carry on!!

Hello Gypsy Rose, Thanks for the vote and for sharing Carry Me to Love. You are so right. That pain from love lost or ignored or whatever can be a deep, deep pain. Usually time mellows it out, but if the love was intense enough, the memory never quite leaves us and may surface at odd times.

Take good care and enjoy your weekend across the sea!

Cynthia B Turner (author) from Georgia on March 16, 2013:

Hello Blossom, Thank you for reading Carry Me to Love. Ah, yes, young love can be the most painful of all because it's so new and so intense, as is everything when we are young. But to look back at that young love, it like this delicious memory to be savored. Thankfully, the edge to any hurt is gone and we only remember the sweetness.

Take good care.

Cynthia B Turner (author) from Georgia on March 16, 2013:

The heart's choices are often not ones that a rational mind would make, causing much "trial by fire." Very good poem.

Learning to love starts from your parents or other family members, and the more you know about love the better you can show your children. A lovely poem on Carry Me To Love.
