Book Review: The Signature of God

Grant Jeffrey is Fully Persuaded. But Can He Persuade You?

The Signature of God is a book written by Grant R. Jeffrey, a writer who is well-known for his books about Bible prophecy and history. At the time, this book was published, he had already authored eight (8) best-selling books. He writes religious fiction and nonfiction. FYI. In this nonfiction book, Mr. Jeffrey explores "documented evidence" which he insists proves that God is the Author of the Word of God, i.e. the Bible.

Did I say "documented". Apologies. Meant to say "indisputable". The description on the book cover used the former word, but surely Mr. Jeffrey intended to communicate the latter.

Grant Jeffrey states that he is fully persuaded about the Bible's Divine inspiration. But can he persuade you? Scripture quotations found in this book are from the King James Version. Once that assurance was given in the copyright notes section, it persuaded me that the book was, at minimum, worth a quick perusal of its contents. Also, there were a few interesting illustrations and photographs.

Jeffrey begins by building on this foundation:

If God truly does exist, how can a mere human authenticate, validate or verify that God is the One doing the talking and chose to make Himself known through a written revelation?

The answer is quite obvious. HE SIGNS IT!

Heaven or Hell? Your Decision

Despite unrelenting attempts to destroy “the Book of Books”, over a period of thousands of years by authorities, apostates, atheists, and a host of other assailants, it is still the most widely distributed book in the world. I said “distributed”. Not to be construed as also reading it.

Believers and non-believers will find Grant Jeffrey's book a quick and captivating read. The paperback format is about 350 pages.

Jeffrey explains how one can ascertain “God's Signature” versus … a forgery? A fraud? A grouping of various writings by a collective of great minds, such as philosophers, scientists, con artists, babblers. How can you tell?

This is not an exhaustive list of all of the indicators; just a sampling of his proofs:

  • fulfilled prophecies;
  • names and numbers with mathematical designs and codes that are so intricate a super computer can't even generate them;
  • overwhelming scientific evidence;
  • archaeological discoveries;
  • contemporary historical records and inscriptions supporting (or supplying?) confirmation of the accuracy of biblical accounts; and
  • its uncanny ability to wholly transform any person's character for the good.

Bible prophecies, mysterious Hebrew codes, mathematical patterns – are not “undesigned coincidences”; but rather valuable evidence and strong proof that the scriptures are the result of Dvine Intelligence.

Biblical writers, many unrelated and disconnected to each other, despite their diversity – from a prince of Egypt (Moses) to martyred apostles (Peter, Paul and others) – manage to weave a consistent storyline from Genesis to Revelation, over hundreds of years.

Historical evidence such as a trilingual inscription similar to the Rosetta Stone, which was found in a cave, that describes the same event in three different languages, which confirm the accuracy of the exodus of the Hebrew people from Egypt. (The book contains a photograph of this discovery, if interested.)

Archaeological evidence by way of digs which finally yielded proof that David was a real king and not a myth; the walls of Jericho fell outwards, not inward; an ancient clay cylinder, found in Iraq, with the royal decree of Cyrus, King of Persia, permitting Babylonian captives to return to their homelands and practice their religion.

Science and Medicine: Scientists have confirmed that man is made of “the dust of the earth”, and the statement made by Moses that “the life of the flesh is in the blood”. Moses was learned in the wisdom of the Egyptians but a comparison of medical prescriptions and remedies employed by the people of ancient Egypt versus how the Jews were instructed in the Old Testament regarding the control and spread of disease, sanitation, etc., and preventative medicine practices and procedures, makes it plain that the two groups were not using the same Physician's Desk Reference.

The last chapter is aptly titled “The Decision is Yours”. With permission, as this is a book review, the following quotations were extracted from the book's Introduction and the last chapter, respectively.

“Our personal determination about whether or not the Bible is the inspired Word of God will depend on our evaluation of the Scriptures and the evidence we have explored in this book, The Signature of God.”

“If the Bible is literally true and God does exist, then every one of us will someday stand before God to be judged by Him as to our eternal destiny – heaven or hell.”

In between the two excerpts above, Jeffrey condensed the results of his research, information, etc., which he accumulated over a few decades into 14 chapters. So how can any rational person ignore such compelling evidence?

Thanks for the heads up about Chris. Yes, indeed, he was the subject of one of my hubs...something about a mad cow. : ) Great guy, and I certainly wish him all the best. Last I heard, he'd left HP but may have reappeared under a new alias.
