Retro Reading: Some Like It Witchy by Heather Blake
Please forgive me if I get a little cynical throughout this review, but there’s been a very long gap between the last installment that I read up to this review.
Just outside Salem, Massachusetts is The Enchanted Village, a quaint little place where crafters go about their daily life, but some of the residents have special gifts that thrill tourists.
Darcy Merriweather is a Wishcrafter and can grant wishes without people knowing. She works with her Aunt Ve at As You Wish, a company that her mother founded years earlier, but Darcy has always believed that Ve was the owner.
In the year that she and her sister Harper have lived in the village, Darcy has come across numerous bodies and today is no exception.
Curecrafter Cherise Goodwin and Darcy are at the Tavistock house where Cherise hopes to be the high bidder for the house. But, they soon discover the body of real estate agent Raina Gallagher in a closet.
With the spell of former owner Eleta Tavistock over, treasure hunters have been bidding on the home with the hope of finding stolen gems. Everyone knows about them and everyone wants them.
Over the next couple of days, Darcy has to find the murderer, while Ve runs in a tight election that could upset the village.
Since it was a long time between readings, I of course forgot much of the characters, but was quick to remember the village. I also remembered that this a really good series since the characters have a lot to hide from the outside world.
Blake has done a great job of putting you into this village and you feel as though you could be a resident.
I can’t be one hundred percent sure, but if I remember, there is a bigger mystery here and a little bit is revealed in each installment.
The characters are fun and likable and it’s a very fast read which I think you’ll like.
