Simone: I had the opportunity to interview the Swedish judges earlier today, and they all agreed that they've never seen such a high level of "everyday expertise." They, and we, are looking forward to reading some Olympic-class hubs from these new writers! Enelle -

Gold Medal Finals: Food and Cooking

ladyjane1: Hi! ladyjane1 and RedElf reporting from the Olympic Kitchens. The judges are discussing the delicious entries from the last heat, and we're just waiting for their scores.

RedElf: It's been a tough competition so far, folks. I have been very impressed with this talented bunch of newcomers. Oh - I think the judges are ready - yes, they're putting up their score cards now... It looks like what we expected at this pint in the competition - eights straight across from the Russia, America, France, and Great Britain, and - wait a minute! Look - a perfect ten from the Chinese judge!

ladyjane1: What an upset! The Romanian judge has just posted a ten as well!

RedElf: - and the French judge has re-tasted that last dish, and changed his score! He's just posted a ten, too!

ladyjane1: Let's see if KoffeeKlatch Gals can enlighten us about this unexpected turn of events. Gals, you're right next to the ovens, in the "heat of the battle" you might say. Can you hear any of the judges' comments?

KoffeeKlatch Gals: (mumble, munch, mumble) Marf, mph um furmerph-mumph... (munch, munch) My, but that last entry was yummy! Sorry, ladies! It's anybody's guess at the moment, but it seems that after sampling the last few recipes, the judges have decided to throw out the old ranking system and go strictly by the merits of each individual entry! That's almost unheard of in the entire history of judging this event.

RedElf: Well, it's anybody's game now, folks! Any of these six new finalists stand a good chance to medal in this event!
