An Interview With The Author

A recent Gallup poll finds that 76% of people believe in paranormal activity in one form or another. Due to reality television shows such as Ghost Hunters International, skeptics of paranormal activity are converted to believers when faced with the chilling evidence of apparitions, electronic voice phenomena, moving objects, shadows, unusual photographic images, and activity of unexplainable origin.

This December, I had the pleasure of interviewing the team leader of Syfy's Ghost Hunters International's Barry Fitzgerald about his compelling new book, "The Influence." Fitzgerald and parapsychologist Trisha Ryan apply their expertise to exposing the dark side of paranormal activity and its influence on human thoughts and behaviors. The authors explain in deep metaphysical detail how unseen forces can penetrate the minds of those who are weak and cause them to act on their violent impulses. Such influences can be responsible for wars and other acts of violence. These dark and negative impulses and feelings do not need to be a part of a human's mental functioning, but, as the authors prove, can be implanted into weak minds by these unseen, evil beings which are not visible to the naked eye.

During the interview, author Barry Fitzgerald explains that in his experience, he has discovered that those who are most susepitble to this "Influence" are those with insufficient immune systems and improper diets leaving the target with specific mineral deficencies. Once these are corrected, the dark entities no longer have an influence upon its subject, but they do lay dormant anxiously awaiting for the deficiency's return.

Also in "The Influence", the authors reveal the scientific methods used to discover a variety of dark and light spirits with a focus on light spectrum technology. With this new technology, which Fitzgerald has helped advance exponentially, a wide array of entities can be seen, from light to dark. The authors reveal that with the use of this technology, entities can be discovered for what they are (and you will find out below.. there is MUCH more to the paranormal realm than just angels and demons). By understanding these entities, paranormal researchers can remove them which would quell many negative influences in the world such as random acts of violence.

Hubpages Review

As someone who has been the victim of terrifying, intense, evil, paranormal activity, I found this book to be very well written, enlightening, and comforting. Unlike most approaches to ghosts and the paranormal, this book delves much deeper into the metaphysical causes of such activity and offers insight into unexplainable events and real solutions to dealing with unwanted paranormal activity. The work of Barry Fitzgerald will convert skeptics and teach novices in the field as the ultimate voice of reason to those of us seeking answers to what seem to be unanswerable questions.

I agree Lilleyth. Kris Williams flipped out about it and called her team stupid and went on a Twitter rampage throwing everyone under the bus. She said it was inappropriate for kids (but she can cuss like a sailor on Facebook and Twitter). I think anyone going into that field needs to have an open mind.. and no personal agenda. It got ugly on Facebook and Twitter. It will be interesting to see what happens Wednesday.

Suzanne Sheffield from Mid-Atlantic on March 19, 2012:

I think Susan was very brave to allow herself to be open to unknown forces, but they are ghost hunters after all, and having taken on that responsibility, someone had to step up to the plate. Seems to be a bit of friction between Susan and Chris. I actually fell asleep before last weeks episode ended. Will watch it On Demand to catch up before Wednesday.

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on March 19, 2012:

Thanks Lilleyth. I would love to know your opinion on the blood letting episode and the things Williams said. Barry said that the next episode will be even more controversial. Thanks for reading!

Suzanne Sheffield from Mid-Atlantic on March 19, 2012:

Never miss my GHI episodes! Great interview Tammy.

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on January 25, 2012:

Thank you so much for your kind words. We are fortunate that Ghost Hunters conglumerate is alive and well. Since these shows have come about, people are no longer afraid of ridicule in telling their personal stories involving paranormal activity. Barry and Trisha have devled very deep into the metaphysics of the phenomena where many people can't function. I hope they write many more books and continue their dedication to this field. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your praise and your thoughts.

Hess on January 25, 2012:

I have had plenty of time to study this field, as well as understand, and have indepth conversations with people in this field, including miss Trisha Ryan, I have come to the conclusion that there are things that currently our minds are unable to comprehend however, once we as humans are able to tap further into our sub-conscious we will start to look at things in more of a 4 or 5 dimensional view rather then our current 2nd or 3rd dimensional views we have now, I fully agree with, and support both Barry and Trisha, and hope that they both come up with more books, and more evidence and ways to understand everything that occurs around us, and inside us every day. I would like to thank them both and you Tammy, for this wonderful outlook, as well as the book they have written, and your article that you have taken the time to write, and at least come to a rational conclusion, and understanding of it.

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on January 05, 2012:

Thanks for sharing that Ardie! It is nice to know there are so many believers. Thanks for the read!!

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on January 05, 2012:

Thank you for reading Susan.. I used to be a skeptic until I had my own experience. Now I want to learn all I can. Perhaps watching GHI would scare him into being a believer. I appreciate the read!

Sondra from Neverland on January 05, 2012:

I also love paranormal anything. I've kept up with the guys for the last few years and I even have several of the episodes memorized! Thanks for bringing attention to the fact that there's a book out there. Otherwise, I never would've known.

Susan Zutautas from Ontario, Canada on January 05, 2012:

I find the subject of paranormal so interesting. My husband is such a non believer and some days I think he feels I'm nuts:) But so many things have happened to people around me and to myself as well that it just seems so illogical not to believe in it. I don't usually watch the TV shows about ghost hunters and such but I will have a look for Barry Fitzgerald's book. Excellent hub!

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on December 31, 2011:

Thanks for reading lyric writer! I think shows like Ghost Hunters is making it more socially acceptable for people to start open conversations on the paranormal and their personal experiences. There are many of us who have been through some serious experiences. It is nice to be able to talk to others about these things. Barry Fitzgerald will be releasing another book with in the next few weeks called, "So My House is Haunted, Now What." This will be a practicle book for people with real issues. Good to see you again!

Richard Ricky Hale from West Virginia on December 31, 2011:

Tammy, this is a great article. I have been a witness to a few paranormal events in my short life as well as my wife. She has seen more things then I have though. I found the video very interesting. I have never heard that explanation before, the lack of minerals and what not. Very interesting Tammy. For those of us that have had experiences, it is a comfort talking among others that have shared such events. And to have an expert in the mix, that is awesome! Voted up and across the board but funny.

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on December 30, 2011:

Thank you Sharyn. I have learned so much through this process. It has really opened my eyes and helped me understand my own experiences with the paranormal! Stay tuned and thank you for reading!

Sharon Smith from Northeast Ohio USA on December 30, 2011:

Cool topic and interview Tammy. Great writing too. This subject is very interesting to me. I especially love the thought about further research possibly changing violence in the world. Wouldn't that be awesome. Looking forward to learning more . . .

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on December 29, 2011:

Real House Wife,

I have those dreams before. I would love to research that and see if that could be a possibility. These dreams are different and so vivid. I know we want to believe that they are real, but it is so hard to know for sure.

That is really neat.. that would be a great hub.. have you done a tribute to her?

Alastar Packer from North Carolina on December 29, 2011:

Your so very welcome Tammy and I do appreciate that; please do so at your convenience only, alright. The Hub Hopper group sounds fantastic and I may take you up on it. Thanks a mil Tam.

Kelly Umphenour from St. Louis, MO on December 29, 2011:

I had to come back to see if the screen blows again:). I do speak to Megan often....I have photos of her and i even had a very vivid dream once that she called me and I said to her "I have something to tell you from your mom!" lol. But I miss her so I question if I want to just believe so much! It just is so strange that it happens such as it does it is hard to deny something isn't going on! I swear...I'll mention her name for some odd reason and poof - a light will snap off as if to say "don't talk about me like I'm not here!" ha!

I'll be waiting for the next hub!

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on December 29, 2011:

Hey Alastar,

Thank you for stopping by. I will gladly check out your hub. I am no expert.. but I will look at it. Are you on Facebook? You should join our Hub Hopper group. It is wonderful and it helps promote your work. If you are interested, email your Facebook name and I will add you.

Alastar Packer from North Carolina on December 29, 2011:

Hey Tammy this so very cool. How amazing, and something new learned with the mineral deficiency. I'm glad you and I hooked up as followers. The Influence is my kind of read too. Anything on the paranormal from a different direction is of interest here. Tammy the interview is very good, very interesting, and if I'm any judge of character Mr. Fitzgerald is a serious person in his investigations. I agree with 95% of what you have in your text and what he talks about on the video. Something with the TV but not surprising. Listen, I could on and on so let me ask you this: this is not promoting but when you can, and if you will, read and give any opinion on Attacked by an Assyrian Demon. Truly would like to know your thoughts on what happened. Thanks Tammy.

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on December 29, 2011:

Thank you Sunshine! I will have mini portions posted here to Hubpages..

Linda Bilyeu from Orlando, FL on December 29, 2011: rock star! I never heard of this author until you mentioned him, I prefer to keep my distance from ghosts with the exception of Halloween of course. What a fab tribute to Barry, I can't wait to read his comment:)

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on December 28, 2011:

Real Housewife,

You just gave me goosebumps! Every thing and any thing is possible. This is a small portion of an interview with Barry Fitzgerald.. the best is yet to come. I will have a few more.. but while he is telling me about the current home he in (that you can see in the interview) is haunted.. the TV behind him comes on behind him all by itself.

You should try talking to her or leaving her something.

People discount these things too easily. I think if you believe in good, light, angels, and God.. you HAVE to believe in the darkness and paranormal as well.

I love the field of metaphysics and the science behind the paranormal, not just because I have experienced it, but because science actually backs up paranormal theories. Think of the second law of thermodynamics.. energy cannot be destroyed or created. All the energy that will ever exist is already in the Universe to be harnessed, moved, transferred. The human body is full of energy. When we die, it isn't in our bodies.. but it isn't destroyed.. The human body looses 2 pounds or so automatically upon death. Wouldn't it be wonderful to know where this energy is going?

Thank you for stopping by and reading. I hope you can embrace your little ghost.

Kelly Umphenour from St. Louis, MO on December 28, 2011:

Tammy - I am totally not kidding about this and it was kind of weird...really weird. My friends daughter passed away about four years ago and I said earlier in a comment that sometimes when I talk about her - a light will shut off by's happened more than once.

Just now - I read your hub several minutes ago and when I was typing about how my little ghost plays with me - my ipad shut off - went to a completely black screen! I wasn't pushing any buttons other than typing! So strange...and I am just telling you - this happens no other time than when I am talking about her!

I was saying - this kind of makes sense - it is a lot to digest but I always have an open mind...there is a lot we people do not understand...who knows right? That is so strange - I still can't believe that just happened!

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on December 28, 2011:

I don't think even someone with your mental abilities can understand all there is to know about the Universe and paranormal activity. I personally don't think we are designed to comprehend everything. It is my hope that when we die we will have the capacity to understand the things that our human shells and little brains (you of course are excluded) can not fathom. We would all be wise to be open minded. Thank you for commenting.

Joseph De Cross from New York on December 28, 2011:

Deep hub! Maybe some paranormal activities can be explain and solved. I was wondering if good forces or angels were able to solve cirminal activities by our own Humankind. There was one time that a greaking entity went into my brain and litereally wanted to blow it out, by twisting my Neurons and my own mind. I was skeptical until that day. Barry Fitzgerald has opened this pandora boxa and so many issues to ponder. Thanks Tammy!
