About The Grumpy Book Reviewer
Grumpy (a.k.a., Maria) is an avid reader and editor. She has loved books and reading since she was a small child. She is holds a master's degree in public health, and is a grant-writer, master gardener, amateur photographer, and an amateur genealogist, and enjoys cooking with her husband Bo. They are known online as The Gardener and The Cook. She shares their recipes and her gardening know-how on HubPages where she writes as "MariaMontgomery".
She reviews the books and manuscripts suggested to her by publishers and literary agents. She also accepts manuscripts and pre-published books and articles from authors for editing and/or proofreading. In each review she provide links to the website of the author. She sincerely hopes you enjoy these reviews, and will visit often. When she has time, she enjoys reading the books of her favorite authors.
What Would Make A Book Reviewer Grumpy?
Maria must have been born with a red pen in her hand because she detests poor writing: bad grammar, a lack of punctuation, poor syntax, run-on sentences, dangling (incomplete) sentences, an obvious lack of research on the part of the author, and incorrect word usage, to name just a few. You can be sure she will call an author out on these things, but will always be kind in doing so.

How To Get A 5-Star Review?
Out of her 250+ reviews, which will be published here (she's working as fast as she can to move them to HubPages) only four authors have been offended, and one of those was because she gave his book only four stars instead of five! Most authors say they appreciate the editorial advice. Be aware: she assigns five stars to only those books that absolutely knock her socks off.
Travel and Reading Add to a Good Education
Grumpy grew up in north-central Alabama, but has lived in North Carolina, Colorado, Michigan, Florida, and now coastal Alabama. Travel, in and of itself, is an education which, among other things, shows us the way "we" do things is not the only way. Reading does the same, but with more imagination.
We can travel the world in books. We can even travel through time in some books. As a history buff, Maria travels through history a lot. That even spawned her interest in genealogy, but that's a story for another day. Maybe an article?
