It's the twenty first century and science is at the helm of global hegemony. So, this era demands statements, actions as a well as philosophies based on logical and physical reasonings. In a sense, science has set up a parameter, beyond which a reasoning, statement or philosophy may be termed weird, baseless and illogical.

Although, science has been able to explain most of the natural phenomena, there are some elements still beyond the explanation of science. For instance, we all know that honey is sweet, but we don't know the factor behind its sweetness. Do plants have sentiments like the other living organisms? We drink water, but we don't know why we feel thirsty? The place where we feel secure at daylight, becomes the place of unexplainable insecurity in the darkness, but we don't know why? Well, these questions were representatives of a universe of questions unanswered by science. That means, there are some phenomena, beyond physical explanations.

Well, I am a science student as well, and I too was an atheist, until I happened to experience something that would be best suitable to be called an occult. It's not very long ago, in fact two months back. I used to live in a hostel at Maitidevi. I had recently shifted with a friend of mine after my board exams for engineering preparation. Well, hostel life has its own - story; friends of similar ages and elders of pesky attitudes. During study hours, we would study calmly and share our knowledge. And in spare times, we would discuss a myriad subjects. Usually, those discussions were conclusions. We also were quite fond of discussing supernatural elements. Oh! Yes, we were regular listeners of programmes related to supernatural in radio and were horror movies frantic. But never took them real serious. We would make a mock of all those things at the end.

Gradually, my interest towards the subject became profound and I was more interested in knowing the ways of calling the spirits. In my spare time, I was busy surfing the internet in order to discover the hidden secrets behind supernaturality. In due course, one day I happened to encounter the word "Planchet". Yes, I'd heard about it before and wasn't ignorant about it, but the things were that I hadn't taken it to a level of seriousness and curiosity! I then obtained detailed information about the whole procedure of Planchet' and decided to carry it out the next night.

In order to carry out a planchet, you must fulfill some mandatory prerequisites which include a board marked with letters from A to Z, numbers from 0 to 9 and Yes' and 'No' at two corners of the board. The background of the board must have sketches and remarks hailing and praising the 'Devil'. Next, you need at least six members and among them one acts as the medium into which the spirit enters. You also need a coin and all the members should place their fingers on the coin so that the spirit can displace the coin to answer its questions.

So, I made all the things ready. Especially picture of the devil was really fantastic and also managed to convince five others in the hostel for the job. However, my friend objected to my doing such activities. But if I left his words out in the cold, coz I bent upon carrying out that eerie experiment. So, it was decided that we would meet at the terrace at midnight, fully prepared and that I would be the medium we all gathered up at the appointed time and followed all the necessary procedure, but to no avail??????, we had to bite the dust. In my fel????? of reage, I burnt the sketch of the devil and threw it at one of the nooks of the terrace and let the readers be noted that it was only half burnt, but I ignored it.

Then, the next day, we had to gulp down the mockery of the entire hostel, as we had a copper. I just ignored them and busied myself in my daily routine. The following night, I was awakened by a bad dream and couldn't sleep very well. The days that followed in the week were quite unusual for me. I began experiencing very strange things. One of them was my hunger. My hunger cropped up unusually large. You will be taken aback to hear that on one of those days, I had lunch thrice in a span of two hours. Can you imagine? At dinners, I would gulp down food equivalent to four of us and yet couldn't be content. Seems strange right? I was in a turmoil about myself. On another occasion, I was shaving in the bathroom, when I heard my friend calling me, but when I went to the room, he was fast asleep. Similarly, I would hear people speak, even when everyone was silent. In fact, I could feel a constant presence of somebody around me and me being watched upon. Another thing that I found worth mentioning is my walking up at 2 a.m. everyday and being unable to sleep after that, on those days. I was really worried about myself and my degrading health, despite such huge doses.

I was unable to speculate that it was all paranormal happening with me until this very night, when my doubt changed to reality. That night, I had well packed my mosquito repellent net in a bag and placed it on table at my bedside, sensing the absence of mosquitoes, before going to sleep.

I was held in awe, as I say myself all covered up well with the net the next morning. I knew it couldn't be me who had done it, cause I couldn't have got up, took the net out, covered up myself well with it, without me realizing it. I asked my friend if he had played a prank on me but was only answered with his cold eyes. I now realise that something eerie was happening with me and was quite frightened at the sense of it. I confessed everything to my friend that afternoon and pondered hard about the way out. All of a sudden, my friend asked me about the sketch of the devil. This question was enough for me to come to a conclusion I had messed myself up, pranked with a devil and it was returning me my price for the taunt. I wasted no time in rushing to the terrace to learn the unburnt half sketch of the devil in the name of god and asked him to forgive me for my deeds. As a matter of fact, it now seems as if God wanted me to realise that we all are his children and that the world is binded by an unfathomable divine force that protects us from all the odds, provided we have faith in it. I felt much energized after that and sort of reincarnation of the former self. I had a pleasant evening and a decent night, for the first time in a week.

Gradually, my life returned back to normal. I no longer am a voracious eater and don't wake up at 2 a.m. in case I don't have the burden of studies.

It may well seem a fabricated story to the readers and I don't mind about that at all because I too was the same as you until I had this spine chilling experience. In fact, it's difficult to believe unless we experience it on our own. I would just say that science remains no more than a philosophy unless it unveils the unseen forces of nature. And as a millions dollar advice, I would suggest the readers better not to prank upon things that are beyond natural existence and physical explanations!
