Teachers Day Poem - Thank You Teacher

Nithya Venkat enjoys writing about nature and different aspects of life in the form of poetic verses.

Written for Poetry Month

All through my years as a student, I was blessed to have great teachers who encouraged and supported me in so many ways.

This poem is a tribute to all teachers -

A teacher

Laying a strong foundation,

Working hard, day after day,

With sweat on the brows,

Chalkdust on hands,

A teacher explains,

Until students understand.

Great knowledge,

A teacher generously imparts,

From a teacher,

Words of wisdom do depart,

Each one precious, to be valued,

To be etched in memory,

Pondered upon, with gratitude.

A teacher always helps you out,

Encourages all those who are in doubt,

To ask questions and find out,

Break out of their shell,

Be courageous and confident,

Without any self-doubt.

A teacher instills self-esteem,

Shines a light that brightly beams,

And lights up the way,

The path to success,

Listen to your teacher,

You will be better than the best.

Thanks for honoring teachers with your lovely poem. :) Now, if EVERYONE felt the same way in the world as you did, well, by golly, we'd all be learning-geniuses with lots of respect for each other. ;)

Lovely poem, I think teachers could use a lot more poems like this and support from the community because they have a very hard job. Voted up and beautiful.

A lovely tribute to all the hard work that teachers do, often taking work home and doing so much quietly behind the scenes to help and encourage the students as well.

Deborah Brooks thank you for reading and your vote. Teachers are sadly overworked and underpaid.

teaches12345 I loved writing this poem. I have had wonderful teachers in school and in college. I went to my school and met all the teachers, they were so happy to see me. I sometimes feel, teachers are like ladders- everyone uses to climb, the minute they reach the top, they forget their teachers just like the ladder. This is not true in all cases though.

This is just wonderful and so supportive of those who work to help all children. Lovely, just lovely!

Deborah Brooks Langford from Brownsville,TX on April 09, 2012:
